To split the screen on a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, open the first app, go to Recents, choose that app’s split-screen option, then select a second app. Samsung’s menu labels and layout can vary by software version, so use the split-screen wording shown on your phone.
Open two apps in split screen

Open the first app you want to use.

Open Recents using your navigation control or gesture.

Choose the split-screen command for the first app. Depending on the menu shown, tap the app’s icon and select Open in split screen view, or find the second app in Recents, press and hold it, and choose Split Screen.

Select the second app. The two apps will appear side by side.

Samsung’s instructions use more than one route into Multi Window, and note that steps may differ by model and operating system. The Galaxy S24 series is included in Samsung’s split-screen guidance. Samsung UK’s Multi Window instructions and Samsung Gulf’s Galaxy phone guide describe the available workflows.
Choose split screen or pop-up view

Samsung describes Multi Window as a way to view two apps side by side; pop-up view instead keeps an app in a small window over other content. Samsung’s Multi Window overview explains both options.

Exit split screen
Drag the separator bar between the two apps all the way to the top or bottom of the screen. The remaining app returns to full-screen view. Samsung’s Galaxy phone split-screen troubleshooting guide documents this exit gesture.

If split screen does not appear or opens unexpectedly

The option is missing: The app may not support split screen. Samsung notes that support is not available for every app. Try a different app rather than assuming the phone’s feature is unavailable. Samsung’s multitasking guidance states this app limitation.

The menu looks different: Follow the split-screen option shown in Recents on your installed software. Samsung cautions that controls and appearance can vary with model and operating system.

Apps open in split screen or a window when you swipe: Samsung identifies Multi Window swipe gestures as a possible trigger. To turn those gestures off, open Settings → Advanced features → Multi window and disable the swipe options available there. The exact controls shown may vary.
