No—the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is water-resistant, not waterproof without limits. Samsung rates it IP68, based on testing in still fresh water at up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. That rating does not mean the phone is safe for swimming, beach or pool use, or every accidental spill.
What the S23 Ultra’s IP68 rating covers
Samsung’s specification describes the Galaxy S23 Ultra as water-resistant in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes, under laboratory test conditions. Samsung Canada describes the IPX8 immersion test as still water, with the device left without movement. The rating is a defined test boundary—not a guarantee that every phone will survive an immersion at those limits, or that it can withstand other kinds of water exposure.

What the rating does not mean
IP68 does not make the S23 Ultra suitable for deliberate underwater use. Samsung advises against beach or pool use, and its support guidance warns against deeper or longer immersion and high-pressure water. Water movement, jets, and conditions unlike the still-water test can expose the phone to stresses the rating does not establish it can handle.

- Fresh water: The stated immersion test uses still fresh water, not every liquid or water condition.
- Salt water and pool water: Samsung advises against exposure to both.
- Other liquids: Samsung also advises against soapy water, oils, perfumes, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, cosmetics, and alcohol-containing liquids.
- Depth, time, and pressure: Exceeding the stated depth or duration, or exposing the device to high-pressure water, falls outside Samsung’s guidance.
Samsung’s Galaxy water-resistance support guidance explains these limits. Its stated test conditions are not a recommendation to submerge your phone.
What to do if your phone gets wet
If the S23 Ultra is exposed to water, follow Samsung’s product guidance to rinse off residue and dry the phone. For exposure to a liquid other than fresh water, Samsung advises rinsing and drying; this is care guidance, not a promise that rinsing will prevent damage. Avoid deliberately testing the phone’s resistance by submerging it.

Should you use it at the beach or pool?
No. Samsung advises against beach and pool use for the bare phone. If you need to use the S23 Ultra near saltwater or a pool, consider a waterproof case specifically compatible with the S23 Ultra. A case does not change the phone’s IP rating, and its own protection depends on its model and instructions. Check the case maker’s stated depth and duration limits, port and control coverage, and any testing or warranty information; a product described as waterproof is not automatically suitable for every immersion.

Not with the same confidence as a new, undamaged device. Samsung says water resistance can naturally diminish over time, and wear or damage can affect it. The original IP68 rating should not be treated as a guarantee for a used, damaged, or repaired S23 Ultra.

Does water damage fall under warranty?
Samsung’s Global Newsroom states that “Water or dust damage is not covered by warranty” in its S23 Ultra feature.
