To take a screenshot on a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, press and release the Side button and Volume down key at the same time. The screenshot is saved in Gallery, in the Screenshots album. You can also use Palm swipe, capture a long page with Scroll capture, or annotate with the S Pen.
Take a screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press and release the Side button and Volume down key together.
- Open Gallery and select the Screenshots album to view the image.

Use Palm swipe to capture
- Open Settings and go to Advanced features > Motions and gestures > Palm swipe to capture.
- Turn on Palm swipe to capture if it is off.
- Swipe the edge of your hand across the display.
This option avoids the button combination, but it must be enabled and the hand-edge gesture has to pass across the screen. Menu labels or availability can vary by software version. Samsung support: taking a screenshot on a Samsung phone or tablet.

- Remove the S Pen and open Air command.
- Choose Screen write.
- Write or draw on the captured image, then save it to Gallery.

Capture a long page or edit the screenshot
After taking a screenshot, use the screenshot toolbar to access the available follow-up tools:
- Scroll capture: Continue capturing content beyond the visible screen, such as the rest of a webpage. The option appears in the toolbar when available.
- Write or draw: Add annotations to the captured image.
- Crop: Trim the screenshot to the area you need.
- Tags: Add tags to make screenshots easier to find in Gallery.
The S23 manual lists screenshot controls under Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recorder. Depending on the installed software, options include showing the toolbar after capture, deleting a screenshot after sharing from the toolbar, hiding the status and navigation bars, choosing JPG or PNG, and selecting a save location. Other ways to request a screenshot
Samsung’s general Galaxy support page also describes asking Bixby or Google Assistant to take a screenshot and choosing Take screenshot in the Tasks Edge panel. The available commands and menus depend on the phone’s configuration and software, so these options may not appear in every setup. Samsung support: taking a screenshot on a Samsung phone or tablet.
When a screenshot does not work
If screenshots fail only in a particular app or screen, the app may be blocking captures for privacy or security. Samsung gives banking apps as one example and notes that a security message may appear. A restriction in one app does not necessarily mean the phone’s screenshot shortcut is faulty.
