If your Samsung S22 speaker is crackling, the sound alone does not prove the speaker has failed. Samsung lists possible causes including blocked or redirected audio, water in the speaker, a downloaded app, physical damage, and temporary distortion after a large change in air pressure. Try the reversible checks below first; they can narrow the cause, but they cannot diagnose a specific faulty part.
Start with audio routing and anything covering the openings
- Disconnect headphones and other audio accessories. Turn Bluetooth off so the phone is not sending sound to another device.
- Remove a case or screen film if it touches or blocks the earpiece, bottom speaker, or microphone openings.
- Restart the S22, then play audio at a normal, clearly audible volume.
If crackling stops after you disconnect an accessory, switch off Bluetooth, or remove a case, that points to a routing or obstruction issue. It does not establish that the speaker itself is defective. Samsung lists external audio routing and accessories among possible contributors to Galaxy sound problems. If the phone was wet, dry it gently
Pat the earpiece, bottom speaker, microphone area, and USB port area with a clean, soft cloth. Do not use compressed air. Samsung warns that it may damage the device, and its water-care guidance cautions that improper cleaning or drying can also cause damage. Water resistance does not make liquid exposure harmless; if the phone contacted dirty liquid, follow Samsung’s water-exposure guidance rather than trying aggressive cleaning.

A soft cloth can remove moisture from the exterior; it is not a speaker repair. Avoid heat, solvents, sharp tools, and opening the phone as do-it-yourself cleaning steps.

Check whether the timing fits a pressure change
Samsung notes that a Galaxy speaker may sound quiet, crackly, or distorted after a large change in ambient air pressure. If the symptom started after such a change, it may improve as pressure equalizes. This is only a possible explanation when the timing fits, not a guaranteed fix or a diagnosis of your S22.
Use diagnostics and Safe mode as clues
Run the speaker test in Samsung Members
On supported Galaxy devices, Samsung Members can run a speaker diagnostic. Open Samsung Members and look for the diagnostics or phone diagnostics area, then select the speaker test if it is available. The available tests and menu path can vary by device and software version. A test result can help guide troubleshooting, but it does not identify every possible hardware fault. Test in Safe mode
Safe mode disables downloaded apps, which can help reveal whether one is contributing to the sound problem. If crackling disappears in Safe mode, investigate recently installed or updated apps. If it continues, that still does not tell you which component is faulty. When to contact Samsung for inspection
Arrange service with Samsung or an authorized service provider if crackling remains after the routing, obstruction, moisture, diagnostic, and Safe mode checks. Persistent abnormal sound needs inspection to determine whether the cause is a speaker, another component, or something else. Samsung’s general support guidance recommends service when troubleshooting does not resolve the problem; it does not diagnose a particular S22 or prescribe speaker replacement.
