Let a cold shelf warm to room temperature before cleaning it, then use water with mild detergent or glass cleaner and dry it with a clean lint-free cloth. Remove the shelf only as its model’s instructions allow: ordinary shelves often lift and slide out, while the glass above the crisper drawers may be part of a larger assembly that must not be forced apart.
Before you remove a shelf
- Check the refrigerator’s model-specific manual if the shelf shape, tabs, or release mechanism is unfamiliar. Samsung notes that removal steps vary by model.
- Empty the shelf and clear a stable, flat place to set it down. Handle glass carefully; it can break and cause injury.
- If the shelf is cold, let it reach room temperature before washing. Do not put warm or hot water on cold glass: a sudden temperature change can cause it to crack or shatter.
Samsung’s general removal and cleaning guidance is at Samsung US Support. Instructions may differ by model and region.
How to remove an ordinary refrigerator shelf
- Open the relevant refrigerator door fully.
- Hold the front of the shelf, lift it gently, and slide it out.
- If it catches, the door clearance is insufficient, or the movement does not match your shelf’s design, stop. Do not force or lift it excessively; check the manual for your model.
Some Samsung shelf designs reinstall by angling the front higher than the back, engaging the top hook in the top notch, and then lowering the shelf to engage the bottom hook. Use that sequence only if it matches your model’s instructions.

How to remove the glass shelf above the crisper drawers
The bottom glass shelf may be a shelf-and-frame assembly rather than a simple lift-out piece. On some models, remove the vegetable drawers first and then lift out the shelf. Other designs require additional steps, such as removing lower door bins and both crisper drawers, pressing tabs near the drawer divider or water-filter housing, and lifting and angling the shelf as you pull it out. Set it on a clean, flat surface once removed.

Because those steps depend on the refrigerator design, use the instructions for the exact model rather than treating one sequence as universal. Samsung’s French-door bottom-shelf guide illustrates an assembly-specific removal process.
Can you separate the glass from its plastic frame?
Only separate the glass if the shelf has designed retainer clips and your model’s instructions say the glass is removable. On designs that permit separation, Samsung describes clips at the back corners where the glass meets the frame. Some shelves have no removable clips and are not designed to come apart. Do not pry glass out of a non-separable frame; it can damage the shelf.

- Wait until the shelf is at room temperature.
- Wash the glass with water and mild detergent or glass cleaner. Samsung Gulf advises lukewarm water and warns against using hot water on cold glass.
- Wipe the shelf dry with a clean lint-free cloth.
- Handle the glass gently and avoid impacts or abrupt temperature changes.

What to do about debris trapped in a non-separable frame
If crumbs or residue are trapped between the glass and a frame that is not designed to come apart, Samsung US advises soaking the entire shelf in a water-and-bleach solution. Do not pry the glass free. If soaking does not clean it sufficiently, Samsung says the shelf must be replaced. Identify the refrigerator model before looking for a compatible replacement.

For a shelf with clips that are designed to release, Samsung says to reverse the removal steps. For an ordinary shelf, use the model’s instructions; some designs require the front to be angled higher than the back so the hooks engage their notches. Do not rely on either sequence if the shelf has a different design.
