On Samsung Galaxy devices, the nearby file-transfer feature is currently called Quick Share, although some Samsung support instructions still call the flow “Nearby Share.” To send a file, open it in Gallery or My Files, tap Share, choose Quick Share or Nearby Share, select the nearby recipient, and have them accept. Before sending, check who is allowed to discover your phone: Samsung says visibility can be set to everyone nearby by default when Quick Share is opened.
What Samsung Nearby Sharing is called—and what it does
Quick Share sends photos, videos, documents, and other files between supported devices. Samsung support pages may still use “Nearby Share” in a title or step, but Samsung’s current product and help pages generally use “Quick Share”; these names refer to the nearby-transfer flow, not two separate products. Quick Share also offers QR-code, contact, link, and Private Sharing options, each with different requirements and limits. Samsung’s Quick Share overview describes the service and its supported sharing routes.
Nearby-device transfers can work without mobile data. That does not mean every Quick Share route is offline: Samsung says QR-code and contact sharing require internet access. Requirements can also differ by device, software version, and sharing route.
How to send a file to a nearby Galaxy device
- Prepare both devices. Turn on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Location on the Galaxy phone. Samsung’s current Quick Share instructions also require Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and specify a Samsung account for the described service. Keep the devices close and unlocked while the sender searches. Requirements can vary by flow and software.
- Choose the item. Open Gallery or My Files, select the photo, video, or document, and tap Share.
- Start Quick Share. Choose Quick Share or Nearby Share from the sharing options. If prompted, enable it.
- Select the recipient. Tap the recipient shown on the sender’s screen, then send the file.
- Accept on the receiving device. The recipient should tap the incoming notification and choose Accept.
For current Quick Share reception, Samsung says the recipient’s screen must be on and “Who can share with you” must allow Contacts only or Anyone nearby. Devices signed in to the same Samsung account can share regardless of that visibility selection. The exact setting label may differ by model or software. Samsung’s Galaxy phone Nearby Share instructions show the basic sending flow.

Check who can discover your phone
Before opening Quick Share in a public place, inspect its receiving visibility setting. Samsung says a Galaxy device may become discoverable to everyone nearby by default when Quick Share is accessed, and that visibility can change temporarily each time you open it. Available labels include No one, Contacts only, and Everyone or Anyone nearby, depending on the page and software version. Check the setting displayed on your own phone rather than assuming its current state.
To limit unsolicited discovery, set visibility to Contacts only or No one when appropriate. Samsung notes that devices on the same Samsung account can still share regardless of this selection, so the visibility control is not a universal block on same-account transfers. Samsung’s Quick Share page describes the current options.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Choose the sharing method that fits the handoff
| Method | When it fits | Network and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Nearby device | The recipient is physically close and using a supported device. | Samsung says nearby transfer does not require mobile data and lists no limit on the number or size of files for this method. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth availability are part of the Galaxy setup described by Samsung. |
| QR code or contacts | You want to hand off files through a QR code or a contact route rather than rely on the nearby-device list. | Requires internet access. Samsung US lists up to 1,000 files at a time, 3 GB per file, and 5 GB per day for QR/contact sharing. Links expire after two days. Executable file extensions .exe, .com, .bat, .cmd, .vbs, .reg, and .msi are unsupported for these routes. |
| Link | A link-based handoff is more practical than selecting a nearby recipient; Samsung Gulf documents this option. | Exact availability and requirements depend on the software and market. Samsung US states that QR/contact links expire after two days; check the option shown on your device for its applicable limits. |
| Private Sharing | You need a supported, more restricted transfer with an expiration time. | Samsung lists up to 20 files and 200 MB at a time. It supports specified file types and devices; Samsung US says the default expiration is two days and can be adjusted up to seven days. |
The figures in the table are Samsung’s stated limits for the named methods, not general limits for every Quick Share transfer. Samsung Gulf’s instructions for its market describe QR and link alternatives in its Quick Share guide.

Galaxy phones and tablets
Samsung US lists Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 10 (Q) or later with One UI 2.1 or later. Actual availability and behavior may still vary by model, software, and region. Samsung’s current product page distinguishes mobile support from PC support, so a compatible Windows computer does not imply that every Android phone can participate in the same way.

Galaxy Books and other Windows PCs
Samsung lists supported Galaxy Books, including qualifying Qualcomm-based models released in 2020 or later, as well as some Windows PCs from other manufacturers that have specified Intel Bluetooth and Wi-Fi drivers. Manufacturer, model, software, and driver restrictions can limit which functions work. Transfer speed and the number of simultaneous recipients also depend on hardware and the surrounding environment; Samsung does not give one universal performance figure.
Sharing with Apple devices
Samsung Gulf’s 2026 guide describes Apple-device sharing on the Galaxy S26 series and lists supported Apple-device families. Samsung US specifies Quick Share app version 13.8.51.27 or later and Google Play Services version 26.11.xx or later for its described Apple-sharing capability, which Samsung says is subject to change. The Apple recipient must make AirDrop discoverable for the documented flow, and some device activities can interfere. This is a market- and software-specific capability, not a guarantee for every Galaxy or Apple device; check the current Quick Share settings or support information for your model. See Samsung US Quick Share details and the Samsung Gulf guide.

Use Private Sharing carefully for sensitive files
Private Sharing is intended for supported files and devices when you want transfer restrictions and an expiration date. Samsung describes controls that prevent saving, resending, or screenshots within the supported flow. These controls are not a guarantee against every possible form of copying or capture, so do not treat them as absolute protection for highly sensitive material. Samsung also limits the feature to specified file formats.
Samsung says Galaxy devices running One UI 5 can detect images containing personal information, such as IDs or passports, and prompt users to use Private Sharing. This is a software-specific prompt, not a promise that every sensitive file will be detected. Separately, Samsung says Auto Blocker with Maximum restrictions enabled automatically removes location data from images shared from Gallery. That behavior depends on the setting and does not mean every Quick Share transfer strips metadata.

What to check when a recipient does not appear or a transfer fails
- Confirm Quick Share is enabled on both devices and that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are available.
- Check that the receiving screen is on and its “Who can share with you” setting permits the sender to find it.
- Move the devices closer and keep them unlocked while the sender searches.
- Check that the relevant apps and services are current; device and software restrictions can affect discovery.
- If the recipient still does not appear, use the QR-code option if it is available. QR sharing requires internet access and has its own limits.
- Restart the device if discovery or transfer continues to fail. Samsung Gulf includes restarting among its troubleshooting suggestions.
Menu names and feature availability vary by model, software version, and market. For exact current steps, use Samsung’s US support instructions, US Quick Share page, or Gulf support guide for the relevant device and region.
