To connect a Samsung printer to a phone, first check that the printer model supports the connection method you want. On a Galaxy phone or tablet, enable the appropriate print service in Settings, then print from a supported app. On an iPhone or iPad, the printer must support AirPrint and share the same Wi-Fi network as the device.
Before you start: check the printer and connection
Samsung printers do not all support the same mobile-printing methods. Check the exact model’s manual or support page for wireless capability and its recommended setup. For ordinary wireless printing, configure the printer for wireless use first; Samsung notes that most printers need this setup before they can print wirelessly. The model also determines which print service or plug-in is appropriate.
Choose the path that matches your devices and printer:
- Galaxy or another Android phone: use a compatible print service or printer-specific plug-in.
- iPhone or iPad: the printer must support AirPrint.
- Direct connection: Wi-Fi Direct may work without a router if both devices support it.
- Wired connection: Samsung documents USB printing with a compatible Galaxy device, OTG adapter, and USB cable.
Print from a Galaxy phone or Android device
1. Enable the right print service
- On your Galaxy device, open Settings and search for Printing.
- Open the printing settings to see the print services installed on the device.
- Enable Default Print Service if it supports your printer. If the printer requires a manufacturer-specific service, use Download plugin and select the one for your printer model.
A separate plug-in is not always necessary: Samsung says, “Many printers may also work without downloading a plug-in.” Use the model’s support information to determine which service applies.

2. Select the printer from the app
- Open the document, email, photo, or web page in an app that supports printing.
- Open the app’s Share menu or its More or options menu, then choose Print. The exact menu can vary by app.
- Tap Select printer and choose your printer. If it does not appear, open All printers and scan again.
- Set available options such as paper size, color, or orientation, then tap Print.
Print settings vary by printer, and not every app includes a print command.
If your phone cannot find the printer
- Check printer setup: make sure the printer is powered on and has been configured for wireless printing.
- Check the print service: confirm that the service for your printer is enabled, or install the model-appropriate plug-in if needed.
- Scan again: open All printers in the printer-selection screen and retry discovery.
- Add it by IP address: if automatic discovery still fails, use Add printer and enter the printer’s IP address, if the print service supports that option. The printer’s network settings or manual can help you find its address.
- Get model-specific help: Samsung advises contacting the printer manufacturer for wireless setup assistance.
Do not assume Bluetooth must be enabled for every printing setup; Samsung’s current print instructions do not make it a universal requirement.

Print from an iPhone or iPad
This route applies only to a Samsung printer that supports AirPrint. Connect the printer and Apple device to the same Wi-Fi network, then:

- Tap Share or Actions, then choose Print.
- Select the AirPrint-enabled printer and adjust available options, such as the number of copies.
- Tap Print.
Apple notes, “Not all apps support printing.” Verify AirPrint support for the exact printer model before relying on this method.

Other connection options
Wi-Fi Direct
Wi-Fi Direct can connect compatible devices directly without a traditional Wi-Fi network or router. It is an option only if both the phone and printer support it, and the setup steps depend on the printer model. Follow that printer’s manual rather than assuming one menu sequence works across Samsung printers. If the connection fails, Samsung recommends checking that both devices support and have Wi-Fi Direct enabled, moving them closer together, restarting them, and updating their software.
USB with an OTG adapter
For a compatible Galaxy device and USB printer, Samsung documents a wired connection using an OTG adapter and an appropriate USB cable. Its support guidance says, “If you are using a USB printer, you can use an OTG adapter and appropriate USB cable to plug directly into your phone’s charging port.” Check the phone’s port, printer connection, and model compatibility before choosing an adapter. This is an optional route, not a requirement for wireless printing.

Do older Samsung printing apps still apply?
Samsung announcements from 2016 and a business brochure from 2013 describe older mobile-printing apps and capabilities. Those dated materials do not establish that a named app is currently available or compatible with a particular printer. For current setup, use the phone’s Printing settings and check the exact printer’s support information.
