Samsung wireless charging is available mainly on Galaxy S, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Z phones. Samsung’s US support information covers Galaxy S6 through S25 families, Note5 through Note20 models, and the Z Fold and Z Flip lines. Galaxy A and XCover phones are excluded from Samsung’s US wireless-charging guidance. Because support, charging speed and even the model list can vary by regional variant, check your exact model on your local Samsung support page before buying a charger.

Which Samsung phones support wireless charging?

Samsung’s official compatibility guidance says most Qi-compatible Samsung devices can be charged wirelessly. In practical terms, wireless charging is concentrated in the company’s flagship and foldable phone lines rather than the entire Galaxy range. The broad family list below is a useful starting point, not a guarantee that every storage, carrier or regional variant has identical hardware.

Galaxy family Models identified in Samsung guidance What to check
Galaxy S S6, S7, S8, S9, S10, S20, S21, S22, S23, S24 and S25 families Exact model number, regional specification and whether your variant supports receiving wireless power
Galaxy Note Note5, Note8, Note9, Note10, Note10+, Note20 5G and Note20 Ultra 5G Whether the phone is the listed generation and regional version
Galaxy Z Fold Z Fold generations, including newer models listed by Samsung Exact Fold generation and the current local support list
Galaxy Z Flip Z Flip generations, including newer models listed by Samsung Exact Flip generation and local specifications
Galaxy A and XCover Not compatible according to Samsung’s US guidance Do not assume a premium-looking A-series or rugged XCover model has a charging coil
Galaxy tablets Not compatible on Samsung Colombia’s compatibility page This article concerns phones; tablet support is a separate question

For the current US list, see Samsung’s wireless charging and PowerShare compatibility guidance. Samsung also publishes a phone or tablet charging troubleshooting page. Regional pages can be updated at different times: Samsung Colombia’s page, for example, was updated on April 8, 2026, and may present a different family list from an older US page. Treat the list as a way to narrow your search, then confirm the exact device.

Galaxy S phones: the broadest compatible range

The Galaxy S line has supported wireless charging from the Galaxy S6 generation onward in Samsung’s US documentation. That includes the S6, S7, S8, S9, S10, S20, S21, S22, S23, S24 and S25 families. “Family” does not mean every similarly named phone is identical: a standard model, Plus model, Ultra model, FE edition or region-specific release can have different charging hardware or limits.

When checking an S-series phone, read the full model name in Settings > About phone, on the retail box or on the original invoice. Match that designation against Samsung’s support page for the country where the phone was sold. This prevents a compatibility assumption based only on an “S” in the product name.

Galaxy Note phones: older models still appear on the list

Samsung’s US list includes the Galaxy Note5, Note8, Note9, Note10 and Note10+, plus the Note20 5G and Note20 Ultra 5G. These phones can receive power from a compatible wireless charger even though several are no longer sold as new devices.

Used and imported Note phones require extra care. A replacement rear panel, non-original battery repair or a carrier-specific variant does not automatically remove wireless charging, but damage or an incorrectly fitted part can prevent the coil from making a reliable connection. Confirm the model identifier and test the phone on a known-compatible charger before relying on it as your primary charging method.

Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip foldables

Samsung lists Z Fold and Z Flip generations among its wireless-charging phones, including newer Z models. Foldable support is generation-specific, and regional catalogs do not always publish additions on the same date. Check the model shown in Settings > About phone against the current local Samsung page rather than assuming every Fold or Flip has the same charging behavior.

Samsung’s setup guidance says a foldable should be closed with its back facing the charger. A stand or pad designed for a conventional flat phone may not align correctly with an open foldable. Remove accessories that stop the rear panel from sitting flat and center the closed phone over the charger’s marked coil.

Galaxy A, XCover and tablets: do not assume compatibility

Samsung’s US guidance explicitly says Galaxy A and Galaxy XCover series phones are not compatible with wireless charging. Some A-series phones may look similar to an S-series model, and an online listing may use “Galaxy” without explaining the difference; neither is evidence of a charging coil.

Samsung Colombia’s compatibility information also says tablets are not compatible. That statement is about the tablet category, not a promise about every future product, so verify a particular tablet separately. A USB-C cable remains the expected charging method when Samsung does not list wireless support for the device.

How Samsung wireless charging works

Wireless charging uses electromagnetic induction between a coil in the charger and a coil behind the phone. The phone must support the relevant wireless-charging standard, and the charger must provide a compatible output. Samsung refers to Qi-compatible devices in its consumer guidance; the practical rule is to confirm both the phone’s specification and the charger’s stated compatibility.

  1. Confirm support. Identify the exact phone model and verify it on Samsung’s local support or specification page.
  2. Use a compatible charger and power adapter. Check the charger’s specification for Qi compatibility and its required input adapter. A pad that physically fits the phone is not automatically electrically suitable.
  3. Place the charger on a stable surface. Connect its adapter, then put the pad or stand where the phone will not slide or be knocked off.
  4. Center the phone. Lay the phone with its back against the pad and align the center of the phone with the charger’s coil. Misalignment can make charging intermittent or stop it entirely.
  5. Close a foldable. For a Z Fold or Z Flip, close the device and place its back against the charger as Samsung instructs.
  6. Check the charging indication. The phone should display its charging animation or status. If it does not, reposition it before changing settings or buying another accessory.

Samsung notes that a thick case may need to be removed when charging fails or repeatedly interrupts. Wallet cases, metal plates, magnetic mounts, cards and loose objects between the phone and pad can block alignment or add heat. Remove those items for the first test, then add accessories back one at a time.

Charging speed and power vary by model

There is no single wireless-charging wattage or charging time for the entire Galaxy range. Samsung says charging speed and power vary by device, and regional specifications can differ. An older S or Note phone may charge more slowly than a newer model even when both work on the same pad. The charger’s advertised maximum is also not a promise that every phone will accept that output.

Comparison point Why it matters How to verify it
Phone’s receiving capability Determines whether wireless charging works at all and which power levels are accepted Exact model specification or Samsung support page
Charger standard A compatible standard is required for the phone and charger to communicate safely Charger packaging or manufacturer specification showing Qi compatibility
Rated output Sets the charger’s ceiling, not necessarily the phone’s actual rate Output table printed on the charger or its technical documentation
Power adapter input A weak or unsuitable adapter can limit the pad even when the pad supports higher output Required input listed by the charger maker; check whether an adapter is included
Placement format A flat pad and an upright stand position the phone differently and affect alignment Choose pad or stand based on your case, desk and foldable-phone use

Do not compare phones using a universal “fast wireless charging” number unless Samsung lists that number for both exact models under comparable conditions. Battery temperature, case thickness, alignment and simultaneous phone use can also change the observed rate.

Wireless PowerShare is a separate feature

Wireless PowerShare lets certain Galaxy phones transmit power to another Qi-compatible device. It is different from receiving charge on a pad. A phone can support wireless charging as a receiver without supporting PowerShare as a transmitter, so do not infer one feature from the other.

Samsung maintains separate PowerShare compatibility details in its official wireless charging guidance. If your model is listed, the usual process is to open the relevant battery or quick-settings control, activate Wireless PowerShare, and place the other Qi-compatible device back-to-back with the transmitting phone. Remove thick cases and reposition both devices if the transfer does not begin. PowerShare is best treated as an emergency top-up: using one phone to charge another consumes the transmitting phone’s battery and can generate heat.

Troubleshooting when a Galaxy phone will not charge wirelessly

  • No charging animation: Re-center the phone, verify the pad is connected to its adapter and test without a case. If another known-compatible phone also fails, inspect the pad or adapter.
  • Charging starts and stops: Remove metal accessories, cards and magnetic plates; check that the phone is not sliding away from the coil; and allow both devices to cool. Samsung identifies a thick case as a possible cause of interrupted charging.
  • Very slow charging: Confirm the charger’s output and input-adapter requirements, then compare them with the phone’s model-specific specification. A high-rated pad cannot force a phone to accept more power than it supports.
  • Foldable does not charge: Close the Z Fold or Z Flip, put its back against the pad and align the center. A stand that works for a narrow slab phone may not align with a folded device.
  • Phone is not on Samsung’s list: Check the local Samsung page using the complete model number. If it is an A-series or XCover phone identified as incompatible in Samsung’s US guidance, use wired charging instead of trying to overcome the limitation with software.
  • Phone becomes unusually hot: Stop charging, remove the case and let the phone cool on a hard surface. Persistent heat, physical damage or a swollen battery warrants Samsung service rather than continued wireless charging.

Samsung’s charging troubleshooting instructions are the appropriate next step when repositioning and removing accessories do not resolve the problem.

How to choose a wireless charger for a compatible Galaxy phone

Once the exact model is confirmed, a Qi-compatible charging pad is the simplest category for a desk or bedside table. A stand is useful if you want to see notifications while charging, but verify that its cradle places the phone’s coil over the charging area. For a Fold or Flip, check the stand’s dimensions and test alignment with the phone closed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Match the charger’s supported standard to the phone’s specification.
  • Choose a rated output appropriate for the phone; higher advertised output is not automatically faster.
  • Confirm whether the required wall adapter is included and whether its input rating meets the charger’s requirement.
  • Allow for your case thickness, camera bump and any magnetic or wallet accessory.
  • Buy from a source that states return and safety information, particularly for a used phone or an imported regional variant.

These checks matter more than a generic speed label because Samsung does not establish one universal charging rate for every Galaxy model.

A quick decision checklist

  1. Read the exact model name and number in the phone’s settings.
  2. Look it up on Samsung’s support page for your country or region.
  3. Confirm that the page describes wireless charging reception, not only Wireless PowerShare.
  4. Check the charger’s Qi compatibility, output and required adapter.
  5. Test with the phone centered and, for a foldable, closed.
  6. Remove a thick case, cards and metal or magnetic inserts if charging is unstable.

If all six checks pass and the phone still does not charge, the issue is more likely to be the charger, adapter, alignment or phone hardware than a missing software switch.

Sources and regional verification

Use Samsung’s official pages for the final model-level decision: the US wireless charging and PowerShare guide, the US charging troubleshooting page, Samsung Colombia’s wireless-charging compatibility list, and Samsung UK’s Galaxy wireless-charging setup guidance. Those pages can change as new phones launch, and a local page is more authoritative for a regional SKU than a family-level list copied elsewhere.
