If your Samsung Galaxy phone won’t charge, start by checking the charger, cable, outlet and connection. Then inspect the port safely and check for a moisture warning or overheating. If a known-good compatible charger still doesn’t work, use Samsung Members diagnostics or arrange a service inspection. The right steps can vary by Galaxy model and software version.
First, work out what kind of charging problem you have
Is the phone not charging at all, or does it charge slowly or stop at a particular percentage? For a phone that won’t start charging, begin with the power source, cable and port. For slow or capped charging, also check temperature, charging settings and Battery protection.
- No charging: Check the outlet and accessories, reconnect both ends of the cable, inspect the port and look for a moisture alert.
- Slow charging or a charge limit: Check the power source, let the phone cool if it is warm, and review supported charging settings and Battery protection.
Check the outlet, charger and cable
Unplug and firmly reconnect the cable at both ends. Try another wall outlet or a known-good power source. If possible, test with a different charger and cable that are compatible with your specific Galaxy model. Samsung recommends accessories designed for the device; compatibility affects whether charging works and how quickly it proceeds. Stop using an accessory that is damaged. A computer may provide less power than a wall adapter, and charging speed or operation can vary with the accessory. If the phone charges from a wall adapter but not a computer, follow Samsung’s computer-specific advice rather than assuming the battery has failed.

Inspect the charging port without probing it
- Turn the phone off.
- Use a flashlight to look for lint, dust or other visible material in the port.
- If debris is visible, follow Samsung’s advice to remove it carefully. Do not use metal objects or liquids, and do not force anything into the connector.
- If the cable will not seat properly, the port looks damaged, or debris would require probing the connector to remove, stop and ask a service provider to inspect it.
Samsung’s US charging guide recommends checking for debris but does not call for invasive cleaning.
If you see a water drop or moisture warning, unplug the cable
A moisture alert is a protection signal, not a prompt to keep trying to charge. Disconnect the charger and wait until the port is completely dry before connecting a cable again. Samsung says, “Even on water-resistant Galaxy devices, the charging port must be completely dry before charging.” Water resistance does not mean a wet port is safe to charge.

To help the phone dry, point the port downward and gently shake the device, wipe its exterior with a clean, soft cloth, then leave it in a ventilated place. Cool air is appropriate; do not connect a cable until the port is completely dry. Humidity can trigger the alert even when the phone was not visibly dropped in water. Samsung’s moisture-alert guidance, last updated May 24, 2023, describes these steps.
If the phone is dry but the warning remains, Samsung Philippines suggests restarting and clearing the USB cache. Treat that as a follow-up, not a universal first step: menu names and availability can vary by model and software version.

For slow charging or a charge limit, check heat and settings
Let a warm phone cool
If the phone feels unusually warm, disconnect the charger and let the device cool before trying again. Heat can temporarily reduce or stop charging. Samsung’s Galaxy battery charging tips also note that the power source matters: a computer or standard USB device may not provide the conditions needed for fast charging.
Review charging settings and Battery protection
On models that provide these options, open Settings > Battery and review the charging settings and Battery protection. Battery protection can limit the charge level by design. Fast charging requires a device that supports the feature, an appropriate setting where required, and compatible charging equipment. The labels and paths vary by model and software version, so an option may not appear on every Galaxy phone. Samsung’s fast-charging guidance gives model-dependent examples; they are not universal charger requirements.

Run a charging diagnostic and decide when to get service
Samsung Members includes a Cable charging diagnostic. To run it, open Samsung Members, tap Support, start Diagnostics, select Cable charging, and review the result. Samsung describes this flow in its fast-charging and diagnostic guidance; exact labels may vary.
Contact Samsung or visit a service center if charging still fails with a known-good compatible accessory, the port appears damaged, or battery life has dropped significantly. A diagnostic result can help narrow down the problem, but persistent failure needs inspection. Do not assume a reset or software update will repair a damaged port, battery or other hardware.
