A Samsung phone that will not charge does not necessarily have a failed charging port. First test a known-good cable, charger, and outlet; then check for debris, moisture warnings, or visible damage. If those checks do not resolve the problem, use a repair guide for your exact Galaxy model—or arrange service—rather than buying a generic replacement port.
What to check before blaming the charging port
Charging problems can come from the outlet, charger, cable, debris, moisture detection, software, battery, or charging hardware. Work through the checks below before deciding that the port needs replacement.
- Check the power source and accessories. Inspect the phone, charger, and cable for damage. Try a known-good Samsung charger and cable with a working outlet. Samsung’s examples of 25W, 45W, and 60W relate to Super Fast Charging compatibility; they are not universal wattage requirements for every Galaxy. Samsung Support: phone or tablet will not charge.
- Allow time for a fully depleted battery. Samsung says the charging indicator may take up to ten minutes to appear when the battery is completely drained. Connect the phone to a working charger and wait before concluding that it is not responding. Samsung Support: phone or tablet will not charge.

- Look into the port without inserting anything. Use a light to check for lint, debris, corrosion, bent pins, or other visible damage. Also notice whether the cable feels unusually loose, but do not wiggle or force it to make contact.
How to handle debris or a moisture warning
If you see lint or debris
Turn the phone off and inspect the charging port with a light. Samsung Korea advises gentle airflow to dislodge debris and warns that sharp objects can damage the device. Do not probe the port with a needle, metal pick, or other sharp tool, and do not pour liquid into it. If debris remains, ask a service center to handle it. If the phone reports moisture or debris
Leave the charger disconnected while the warning is active. Samsung Korea says the phone blocks charging to help protect against corrosion, heat, or fire risk; do not try to bypass the alert. When port replacement makes sense
Consider a port repair only after accessory, outlet, restart, and safe inspection checks have not explained the problem. Corrosion, bent pins, physical damage, a persistently loose connection, or debris that cannot be removed safely are reasons to stop troubleshooting and get a diagnosis. A charging failure alone does not confirm that the port is the faulty part; the battery or other charging hardware may also be involved.
Samsung’s US support guidance says that if the phone still does not charge after its troubleshooting steps, users should visit a Samsung walk-in service center or schedule a repair online. Availability and service terms depend on location. Samsung Support: phone or tablet will not charge.

Why the model number matters
“Samsung Galaxy” is not enough to identify a compatible part or repair procedure. What Samsung’s S21-series self-repair example shows
Samsung UK’s self-repair page, updated 19 June 2026, demonstrates charging-port replacement for the Galaxy S21 series and says repair locations and connectors vary by device. Its self-repair program applies to listed models, so use the guide for the specific supported model rather than treating it as a universal Galaxy procedure. Samsung warns that damage caused by improper repair by someone other than a Samsung-certified service provider may not be covered by warranty, and states: “Third-party replacement parts may not function properly.” These cautions concern the repair context described by Samsung; warranty outcomes depend on the applicable terms. For that S21-series procedure, Samsung lists the charging port, screws, an internal metal plate, back-glass adhesive tape, and microphone-hole tape. Its tools include a heating bag, suction cup, opening picks, PH0 screwdriver, and opening tool; it also lists a mask, safety glasses, and ESD-safe gloves. Samsung instructs users to work in a ventilated area, back up data, power off the phone, remove the SIM tray, and keep the heating bag at or below 65°C. When not to attempt a DIY repair

- You lack the specified tools or a safe workspace. A model-specific repair can involve heat, adhesives, small parts, and internal components. If you cannot follow the relevant safety steps, let a qualified service provider handle it.
