If you own the phone, Samsung’s official recovery options are narrow: on eligible Galaxy devices, a recently changed screen lock may let you use the previous PIN, password, or pattern without erasing the phone. Otherwise, the documented recovery route is to erase the device and set it up again. There is no supported way to bypass the lock and keep access to encrypted data stored on the locked phone.
How to bypass a lock code on a Samsung phone
“Bypass” is not how Samsung or Google describes the normal recovery process. First check whether your Galaxy supports using its previous screen lock. If not, the official remedies are remote or button-based factory reset, which deletes data on the phone.
Try the previous screen lock if you changed it recently
Samsung says eligible Galaxy models running One UI 6.1 or later may offer a way to unlock with the previous PIN, password, or pattern after a recent change. The previous method is retained for 72 hours. After five or more failed unlock attempts, look for the on-screen Forgot PIN?, Forgot password?, or Forgot pattern? option, then follow the prompts to enter the previous method. Use attempts carefully: Samsung says this recovery works once per screen-lock type after a change. After three incorrect entries of the previous method, further attempts are blocked.

Know what a reset does before choosing it
If the previous-lock option is unavailable or does not work, resetting is not a data-recovery method. Google’s guidance is direct: “If you can’t unlock your phone, you’ll need to erase it.” A reset deletes local data that is not backed up; you then set up the phone again and restore any available backup.

Prepare before erasing the phone
- Confirm that you can sign in to the Samsung account and the Google Account previously associated with the device. Reset protection may require the previously registered Google Account during setup.
- Check what is backed up and what is only stored locally. Anything not backed up may be lost when the phone is erased.
- If you recently changed your Google Account password, Google advises waiting 24 hours before performing a factory reset.
How to erase a locked Galaxy phone
Use Samsung SmartThings Find
Sign in to SmartThings Find with the Samsung account associated with the registered Galaxy and choose Erase data for the device. This is a remote factory reset, not an unlock. Samsung says the data is permanently deleted. If the phone is offline, the erase takes place when it next connects to the internet. Samsung account sign-in is required. Use Google Find Hub when its requirements are met
Google’s remote erase option depends on the phone being powered on, connected to the internet, signed in to a Google Account, visible on Google Play, and configured with Find Hub. If those conditions are not met, remote erasure may not be available. Google explains the requirements in its locked-device guidance and factory-reset instructions.
Follow the instructions for your exact Galaxy model
If you cannot use remote management, consult Samsung’s instructions for your phone or tablet model. Button-based reset steps differ by manufacturer and model, so a generic button combination should not be treated as universal. A button reset still erases the device.

What if account verification prevents setup?
After a reset, Android may require the Google Account previously registered on the phone as part of Factory Reset Protection. If you cannot complete setup or need help performing a reset, contact a Samsung authorized service center. This is support for the reset or setup process, not a guarantee that data can be recovered or that the lock can be removed without erasing the phone.
