On a Samsung phone, open My Files and check Downloads first. If the document is not there, search for its filename, check Recent, then look in internal or external storage. The exact location depends on the app that saved it, and some downloads stay inside the app that created them.
Find a downloaded document in My Files
- Open My Files. If you do not see it on your home screen or in the app drawer, search your apps for “My Files”; Samsung says it is commonly grouped in a Samsung folder. Samsung UK
- Tap Downloads and look for the document. The category may be called “Downloads,” while the corresponding folder in storage is often named Download. Samsung Canada Samsung Ukraine
- If you know any part of the filename, use the search control in My Files. You can also check Recent for recently accessed files. Samsung Gulf
Why a document may not be in Downloads
Files do not all have one universal destination. Samsung says a downloaded file’s location depends on its type and the app used to download it. Samsung Internet and Chrome commonly save downloads to Download by default, but browser settings can change the destination, and other browsers may use their own folders. Samsung Ukraine
Some apps also keep downloads within the app rather than making them ordinary files in My Files. For example, protected offline content from streaming apps may only be accessible through the app that downloaded it. In that case, open the originating app; the content may not be available as a document to browse or move in My Files. Samsung UK

If you do not find the file in Downloads, open My Files > Internal storage > Download. Then check any available SD card or USB storage shown in My Files. What to check when a document is missing
- My Files is hard to find: Search the app list for it; it is commonly in the Samsung folder. Samsung UK
- Downloads is empty: Search by filename, browse Internal storage > Download, check other storage locations, and consider which app or browser saved the file.
- An offline media download is absent: Look in the service app itself; protected content may not appear in My Files. Samsung UK
- You may have deleted it: Open My Files > Recycle Bin promptly. Samsung’s Brazil support page says items are permanently deleted after 30 days, while its Gulf support page says 15 days. These regional statements differ, so check the retention information shown on your device rather than assuming one period applies everywhere. Samsung Brazil Samsung Gulf
