Samsung OLED S95H vs LG G-series OLED: which is better for gaming?

There is no evidence-based universal winner. Samsung’s 2026 OLED S95H is the more compelling choice for a bright room or a setup where reflection control matters, while LG’s 2026 OLED evo G6 is the better fit if Dolby Vision or four high-bandwidth HDMI inputs are important. Both manufacturers specify 4K OLED gaming support in the 165Hz class with variable refresh features, but the available sources do not provide a controlled, like-for-like input-lag or VRR-stability test of matching regional models.

What the specifications actually establish

The S95H and G6 are 2026 flagship OLED televisions aimed at buyers who want premium picture quality and high-refresh gaming. Samsung’s global announcement specifies up to 165Hz on the S95H, NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible support and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. LG’s US launch announcement specifies 4K 165Hz VRR, NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium for the G6, along with Dolby Vision.

Those are manufacturer feature claims. A 165Hz label does not mean every console or PC game will output 165 frames per second, and compatibility can depend on the graphics card, console, game, cable, resolution and regional television firmware. The claims also do not establish which television has lower latency or more stable VRR in a specific game.

Maximum refresh claim Up to 165Hz, according to Samsung 4K at 165Hz VRR, according to LG Both target the 4K/165Hz class; actual output depends on the source device and game.
Variable refresh standards NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium Both advertise broad PC variable-refresh support, but no head-to-head stability test is established.
Dolby Vision Not supported, according to Tom’s Guide’s S95H review Supported; LG also lists Dolby Vision for gaming G6 is the safer choice if Dolby Vision is a requirement of the player’s sources.
Reflection treatment Samsung advertises Glare Free; TechRadar found its matte screen more effective at eliminating reflections TechRadar found it reduced reflections while preserving black tones better Room lighting and viewing position should drive this choice.

Samsung’s product page identifies the television as the 2026 65-inch OLED 4K S95H and describes OLED HDR Pro and Glare Free. LG’s announcement describes the G6 as a flagship OLED evo model and lists a five-year panel warranty for the US launch. Warranty terms and availability are market-specific, so read the local product documentation rather than assuming the US terms apply elsewhere.

Which one is better for high-refresh PC gaming?

What 165Hz means in practice

Both sets are designed to accept a high-refresh PC signal. Samsung says the S95H reaches up to 165Hz and is G-SYNC Compatible, while LG says the G6 supports 4K 165Hz VRR, G-SYNC and FreeSync Premium. A compatible graphics card still has to render the game at a suitable frame rate. If a game runs at 80 frames per second, a 165Hz panel does not create 165 frames; VRR instead adjusts the panel’s timing to reduce tearing when the frame rate changes.

For a PC, check the graphics card’s supported resolution and refresh combinations, then select the television’s high-refresh mode in the operating system or game. Enable VRR on the display and in the graphics driver, and use the game’s own frame-rate limiter where appropriate. Menu names differ by firmware and operating system, so follow the labels shown on your specific model rather than copying a path from another region.

G-SYNC and FreeSync are not a latency verdict

Samsung’s explanation says G-SYNC synchronizes display refresh with the frame rate produced by a GeForce GPU to reduce tearing and stutter. LG lists both G-SYNC and FreeSync Premium for the G6. These standards describe synchronization features; they do not reveal total end-to-end latency, overdrive behavior or whether a particular game remains stable throughout its VRR range.

No source cited here reports directly comparable input-lag measurements, VRR-range tests or sustained 4K high-refresh results for the same sizes and regional versions of the S95H and G6. It would therefore be inaccurate to award either model a measured PC-gaming performance victory.

Does Dolby Vision make the G6 better for gaming?

LG lists Dolby Vision on the G6, and What Hi-Fi?’s review of a UK G6 specifically lists a Dolby Vision game mode and HGiG. Dolby Vision can matter when a console, PC game or streaming source actually outputs Dolby Vision and the player wants that format’s dynamic metadata. It is not automatically a picture-quality advantage in every title: many games use HDR10, and the source device must support the format.

The S95H does not support Dolby Vision according to Tom’s Guide’s review. It can still display HDR content in the formats it supports, but a Dolby Vision signal will not be available as Dolby Vision on this television. Choose the G6 when Dolby Vision is a firm requirement; do not choose it solely because the logo appears if your games and devices use HDR10 instead.

HGiG and game HDR

HGiG is listed for the reviewed UK G6. It is a guidance mode intended to let a compatible game console or game perform HDR tone mapping rather than having the television remap the image again. The useful setting depends on the game’s calibration process. Use the game’s HDR calibration screen and avoid changing several tone-mapping controls at once, because a brighter-looking image is not proof of more accurate highlight detail.

Which screen handles a bright room better?

Samsung markets the S95H with Glare Free treatment. In TechRadar’s July 2026 hands-on comparison of the Samsung S95H/S99H and LG G6, both televisions reduced reflections effectively, but the reviewer found Samsung’s matte screen more effective at eliminating visible reflections. The G6 retained black tones better while reducing reflections.

That distinction is practical for a gaming room with a window, ceiling light or lamp behind the player. A matte surface can make a reflected light source less distracting, while preserving black-level depth can make dark scenes look richer when some ambient light remains. TechRadar also reported stronger Samsung fullscreen brightness in its reviewed picture modes, while the G6 had peak-area brightness advantages in some scenes. Those observations were made in a picture comparison, not a controlled gaming session, so they should guide room-based decisions rather than serve as latency evidence.

Placement steps that matter more than the logo

  • Place the screen so windows and lamps are not directly behind the player or opposite the panel.
  • Use the television’s game picture mode when gaming; separate movie and filmmaker settings can process motion and tone mapping differently.
  • Calibrate HDR in each console or game after choosing the television’s HDR mode.
  • Keep the room lighting consistent when comparing two televisions. A screen that looks better under showroom lighting may not be the better choice in a dark room.

Does the G6 have a better connection layout?

What Hi-Fi?’s review identifies four 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 inputs on the UK G6 it tested, alongside 4K/165Hz, 4K/120Hz, VRR, ALLM, Dolby Vision game mode and HGiG. Four full-bandwidth inputs are useful if you plan to connect several devices directly, such as a gaming PC, two current consoles and an audio receiver that passes through high-refresh signals.

The Samsung sources cited for this comparison do not provide equivalent port-by-port bandwidth information for the S95H. Do not assume that every S95H sold in every country has the same input count or bandwidth as the reviewed G6. Before buying, open the specification or manual page for the exact regional model and confirm:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • the number of HDMI inputs that accept your desired resolution and refresh rate;
  • whether the input supports the required VRR standard and ALLM;
  • whether an AV receiver or soundbar in the signal path can pass 4K at your chosen refresh rate;
  • which input carries eARC if your audio system needs it; and
  • the television’s supported signal modes for your graphics card or console.

If you have only one high-refresh source, the G6’s documented four-input arrangement may not change your experience. If you have several, it can avoid swapping cables or routing every device through a receiver.

How regional model names can cause a bad comparison

TechRadar notes that the Samsung successor is called S95H in the US and S99H in the UK, while a separate UK S95H model also exists. That makes the family name alone an unsafe way to identify a television. Panel treatment, tuner, software, stand, warranty and input configuration can vary by market or suffix.

LG’s US announcement lists 55-, 65-, 77-, 83- and 97-inch G6 sizes. Samsung’s US product page lists 55-, 65-, 77- and 83-inch S95H sizes. A 97-inch G6 therefore has no same-size S95H counterpart in the cited US range. Check the complete model code, screen size, country page, included stand or wall-mount hardware and return policy before comparing prices or features.

What do the picture measurements tell a gamer?

TechRadar measured the S95H/S99H at 99.97% UHDA-P3 and 89.3% BT.2020 HDR color-gamut coverage. Its G6 measured 99.3% UHDA-P3 and 83% BT.2020 coverage after the most recent update as of July 3, 2026. These are independent comparison measurements, not Samsung or LG specifications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Wide color coverage can help HDR games reproduce saturated effects, but gamut coverage is not the same as brightness, tone-mapping accuracy, input lag or VRR smoothness. The measurements also combine the S95H and S99H naming in TechRadar’s comparison, which is another reason to avoid treating them as a universal result for every regional S95H.

Price and value: compare like for like

LG’s US launch announcement gave the G6 a starting MSRP of $2,499. Samsung’s US page displayed $3,399.99 for the 65-inch S95H when accessed. Those figures are not a same-size, same-date street-price comparison: one is a launch MSRP starting price and the other is a volatile listing for a specified 65-inch class model.

Price evidence What it represents How to use it
LG G6 from $2,499 in the US US launch MSRP announced by LG for 2026 Useful as a launch reference, not a current universal retail price.
Samsung S95H 65-inch at $3,399.99 Price displayed on Samsung’s US product page at access time Check the live page; price, stock and delivery can change.

For a fair buying decision, compare the same diagonal, country, warranty coverage and delivery date. Include any required stand or mounting hardware, and check whether a promotion is a one-time launch offer or a normal price. A higher price does not prove better gaming performance when no controlled latency comparison exists.

A decision framework for choosing between them

Choose the S95H when these priorities dominate

  • Your room has strong reflections and you value the matte Glare Free treatment.
  • You want the S95H’s advertised FreeSync Premium Pro and G-SYNC Compatible support and your devices are known to work with those modes.
  • You prefer Samsung’s picture presentation after seeing it in your own lighting.
  • You do not require Dolby Vision from your console, PC or media devices.
  • The exact S95H SKU is available at a better same-size price than the G6 in your market.

Choose the G6 when these priorities dominate

  • Dolby Vision is required by the games or devices you use.
  • You need the reviewed G6 configuration’s four 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 inputs for several direct-connected sources.
  • You want the documented combination of 4K/165Hz, VRR, ALLM, Dolby Vision game mode and HGiG on the reviewed UK model.
  • You prefer the G6’s ability to preserve black tones while reducing reflections.
  • You need the 97-inch size listed in LG’s US range, which is not listed for the US S95H range cited here.

Do not decide on these assumptions

  • Do not assume 165Hz automatically means lower input lag.
  • Do not assume a G-SYNC or FreeSync badge guarantees identical behavior with every GPU, console or game.
  • Do not assume port counts and bandwidth are identical across regional model codes.
  • Do not use a launch MSRP and a current product-page price as if they were equivalent offers.
  • Do not treat picture-mode brightness or color-gamut measurements as gaming-latency measurements.

How to verify a television before ordering

  1. Write down the full model code, screen size and sales region, not just “S95H” or “G6.”
  2. Check the local manufacturer specification page or manual for HDMI input count, supported bandwidth, VRR standards, ALLM and eARC.
  3. Confirm that your PC graphics card or console can output the resolution and refresh rate you want.
  4. Check whether your games and playback devices use Dolby Vision, HDR10 or another HDR format.
  5. Measure the room’s viewing distance and identify the light sources that could reflect in the panel.
  6. Compare current same-size prices, warranty terms, return windows and delivery dates.
  7. After installation, update the television and source device, enable the appropriate game and VRR modes, and run the game or console HDR calibration.

What remains unknown about gaming performance

The available material does not establish a controlled, same-size comparison of gaming input lag, VRR stability, console compatibility or sustained 4K high-refresh performance for the exact regional S95H and G6 models. It also does not provide an equivalent Samsung port inventory to the four-input specification reported for the reviewed UK G6.

That limitation matters because firmware, panel size, regional electronics and source hardware can change behavior. A retailer demonstration or a manufacturer badge cannot substitute for measurements made with the two exact models under the same signal and picture settings. Until such a test exists, the defensible recommendation is conditional: choose the feature set that matches your room, HDR sources and connection plan.
