Samsung’s AI notification summaries may take longer to appear for group chats than for one-to-one conversations: Samsung’s US troubleshooting guidance specifies at least nine minutes of notifications for a group chat, compared with three minutes for a one-to-one chat. That timing is one of several conditions to check before treating a missing summary as a failure.
What Samsung’s notification summaries do
Samsung calls the feature Notification highlights. It includes two separate functions: prioritizing notifications and creating summaries of conversational notifications. The summaries are intended to help you catch key details without opening each notification; you can control summaries separately for individual apps.
Samsung’s US feature page says summaries use notification history from the previous 24 hours. Samsung Canada’s Galaxy S26 guide describes them as AI-generated and based on unread notifications. Those descriptions may reflect differences in device or software, so don’t assume the precise processing window is identical on every Galaxy phone.
Recommended Free Tools
Samsung’s current US troubleshooting page describes the feature for Galaxy phones running One UI 8.5 or later, including the Galaxy S26 series and newer models. This is a US support statement, not a complete eligibility list for every country, carrier, or device variant. Samsung says supported features and menus can vary by device model, software version, and app version.

Why a group chat may not produce a summary
Samsung’s US troubleshooting instructions list several conditions. The time and message-length figures are thresholds to check—not a promise that a summary will appear immediately once they are met.
- Allow more time for a group conversation: Samsung says the feature checks for notifications received for at least nine minutes in group chats. For one-to-one chats, its stated interval is three minutes.
- Check the notification length: Notifications with fewer than 200 characters may not be summarized.
- Let the screen turn off: Samsung says the feature activates when the screen is off.
- Check charge and Power saving: The phone must have at least 30% battery charge. Summaries may not be provided when the battery is low or Power saving is on.
- Confirm the app is supported: The notification must come from an app Samsung supports for summarization.
Samsung does not say that any one of these conditions explains every missing summary. If a group-chat summary does not appear, check them together rather than assuming the nine-minute interval alone guarantees one.

Check the feature and app settings
Menu paths differ across Samsung’s own instructions: the US page gives Settings > Galaxy AI > Notification highlights, while the Canada Galaxy S26 guide gives Settings > Notifications > Notification highlights. If neither path matches your phone, search Settings for “Notification highlights.”
- Open Settings and find Notification highlights using the path available on your device or Settings search.
- Check that summaries are enabled. Prioritization and summaries are separate controls; enable the function you want.
- Review the per-app controls and enable summaries for the messaging app in question.
- Check the app name against Samsung’s supported-app list. Samsung says support can change.
Samsung’s current US list includes WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Google Messages, WhatsApp Business, Snapchat, Telegram, Samsung Messages, Zalo, Rakuten Viber Messenger, imo, Discord, MAX, KakaoTalk, WeChat, Signal, imo HD, Zangi, Plus Messenger, imo beta, aka, imo Lite, MiChat, Telegram X, Zello PTT Walkie Talkie, Messenger Kids, Graph Messenger, VK Messenger, Bip, GroupMe, Azar, Teams, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, QQ, and Visual Voicemail. Language and privacy details
Samsung lists English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Polish, Vietnamese, and Hindi. The US page says prioritization applies only in the phone’s system language; the Canada Galaxy S26 guide says summaries support the same languages as the system language. Samsung’s descriptions are not identical, so check the guidance for your device and region.
Samsung says data used for prioritization is processed securely on-device on its US support page. Its Canada Galaxy S26 guide says data used for the feature is processed only on-device. These statements concern this feature; they should not be taken as a broader claim about every Galaxy AI function.

How much should you trust a summary?
Samsung cautions that “Summaries may not always be accurate.” The official material cited here does not provide a measured accuracy rate or a dated quantitative study. Treat a summary as a shortcut to the conversation, not a substitute for checking the original message when a detail matters—especially a time, amount, instruction, or decision.
