Why is my Samsung losing battery so fast? Common causes include temporary setup activity, background apps, weak or changing mobile reception, 5G use in some network conditions, and an aging battery. Start by checking which apps are using power, then change only the settings that match what you find.
Why your Samsung battery may be draining quickly
Recent setup or reset
A new phone or one that was recently reset may use extra power while apps and services finish optimizing. Samsung says battery use can settle after that work is complete, so a short-lived change after setup does not by itself prove the battery is faulty. Background apps and features
Apps that continue working in the background, along with auto-sync and features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or GPS, can add to power use. If the drain started after you installed an app or changed a setting, that timing can help narrow down the cause.
Weak reception or 5G use
A phone may use more power in weak or unstable signal areas. Samsung also describes a 5G network scenario in which the phone maintains connections for data and legacy network functions, which can increase consumption. That does not make 5G the cause for every user: the effect depends on network conditions and use. Samsung’s 5G troubleshooting guidance discusses this network behavior.

Battery aging
Battery capacity declines with repeated charging and discharging because the battery is a consumable component. If your phone drains soon after charging, shuts down unexpectedly, or reports battery degradation, check its battery status and consider a professional inspection.
How to find what is using the battery
- Open Settings and review battery use. Look for Battery, Battery usage, or a battery graph or usage details; exact labels vary by Galaxy model and software version. If you do not see the same path, search for “Battery” in Settings.
- Check for an outlier. Look for an app using much more power than you would expect for how often you use it. Consider whether it was recently installed or updated, or whether it is doing background work.
- Address the app that stands out. Update it, limit its background activity, or uninstall it if you do not need it. Avoid restricting apps whose background work you rely on, such as timely messages or other important notifications.

Which settings are worth changing?

For a suspected network-related drain, compare battery use in different reception conditions and note whether it coincides with 5G use. Samsung also suggests options such as a shorter screen timeout, Adaptive brightness, Power saving, a Light performance profile, and background usage limits in its 5G guidance. On supported devices, try Samsung Members > Support > Phone diagnostics > Battery status. Menu wording and availability can vary. A diagnostic can help check battery condition, but it is not a repair.

If Samsung Members reports degradation, or the phone drains quickly soon after charging or shuts down unexpectedly, arrange an inspection at a service center. Samsung recommends service-center inspection when a degradation alert appears. Whether replacement is covered by warranty depends on the applicable warranty terms; coverage and service options vary by location. Samsung warns that some third-party apps use fake alerts such as “Battery is draining fast” to prompt additional downloads. Do not install a cleaner or battery app just because a pop-up tells you to.
