You can show steps on a Samsung Galaxy lock screen only if your phone’s lock-screen widget picker offers a Samsung Health or Brief widget that displays them. Open the lock-screen editor, check the available widgets, select a step option if one appears, and tap Done. Samsung documents step tracking and lock-screen widgets, but does not guarantee a live step-count widget on every model, region, or software version.
Can I put a step counter on my Galaxy lock screen?
Possibly. Lock-screen widget choices vary with your Galaxy model, region, carrier, and software version. Samsung’s One UI 6 feature page listed Samsung Health among lock-screen and Always On Display widgets, but that does not establish that every device has a widget with a live step total today. Samsung’s current Brief-widget guidance also says supported apps can change over time.
A lock-screen widget and a Samsung Health notification are different features: a notification can appear on the lock screen without displaying a persistent numeric count. If the picker does not offer a step-count widget, use Samsung Health or a Home-screen Steps widget instead.
How do I show my steps on my Samsung lock screen?
Try the lock-screen editor
- Wake the phone and touch and hold an empty area of the lock screen. Unlock the phone if prompted.
- In the editor, tap Add widgets or the available widget area.
- Look for Samsung Health or a Brief widget option that explicitly shows step information. Available choices depend on the device and software.
- Select the step option if it is offered, choose a style if prompted, and tap Done to save.
Samsung’s instructions for One UI 7 or later describe adding one or two widgets to the lock screen or Always On Display. Labels and controls can differ on other releases.

Use Settings if the long-press route is unavailable
- Open Settings > Wallpaper and style.
- Tap the current lock-screen preview.
- Tap Add widgets.
- Choose a Samsung Health option if it appears, select a style if available, and tap Done.
On One UI 7-era software, Samsung refers to these as Brief widgets. Earlier versions or regional software may use different labels or offer different choices. Samsung’s guidance cautions that screens and settings vary by model, provider, and software version.
What if Samsung Health is missing from the widget picker?
Confirm that Samsung Health is counting steps
Open Samsung Health and tap the Steps card to see the phone’s step count. Samsung Health can use a connected device’s pedometer, such as a Galaxy phone or Watch. The count is an estimate: Samsung notes that movement and where you keep your phone can affect it. If you use a watch, the data source or syncing may affect what appears; do not assume the phone and watch will always show identical counts. Samsung also documents a Steps tile on Galaxy Watch.

Check for a Home-screen Steps widget
If you want a glanceable phone display but the lock-screen picker has no suitable option, check the Home-screen widget picker for Samsung Health’s Steps widget. Samsung’s instructions document this Home-screen widget; adding it does not add the same widget to the lock screen.

Check device-specific support
Look for software and Samsung Health updates, then consult the manual and support page for your exact Galaxy model and region. Widget availability and menu paths are not universal. Samsung’s Brief-widget guidance also notes that supported apps may be added, removed, or updated over time.

Can a Samsung Health notification show the step total?
You can allow Samsung Health notifications on the lock screen, but Samsung’s instructions do not promise that this will create a persistent live step total on a phone. Samsung also says step-tracker health notifications are available only on watches.
- Open Samsung Health > More options > Settings > Notifications.
- Allow notifications and choose the lock-screen or show-content option available on your phone if you want notification details visible there.
Notification visibility controls what alerts can appear; it is not a substitute for a widget that displays a numeric count.

Why might the steps on my phone and watch differ?
Samsung Health can use data from a connected phone or watch, and the chosen source or synchronization can affect the count shown. Samsung describes step totals as estimates rather than exact measurements. Check Samsung Health’s Steps card for the phone’s count and the Steps tile on the Galaxy Watch for its display; the two do not have to match exactly.
