A Samsung LED Cover is built for a specific Galaxy model, and its lights and smart functions depend on the exact cover. Samsung’s documented example is the Smart LED Cover EF-KG980C for Galaxy S20 5G—not a universal cover for newer phones. Check your phone’s precise model and the cover’s package SKU before buying, then use the phone’s accessory settings to configure supported features.
Which Galaxy phones fit a Samsung LED Cover?
The verified product in Samsung’s listings is the Smart LED Cover EF-KG980C family for Galaxy S20 5G. Samsung’s Canadian business listing uses the regional SKU EF-KG980CJEGCA; its Irish listing identifies Galaxy S20 LED Cover EF-KG980CLEGEU. These are regional SKUs within the same S20 cover family, not evidence of compatibility with other phones. Samsung’s Canadian product page identifies the intended phone model.
- Check the exact model name and model number of your Galaxy phone.
- Look for the EF-KG980C family identifier and compare the full regional SKU on the package with the listing.
- Do not assume an S20 5G cover fits the S20 FE, S20+, S20 Ultra, or a later Galaxy model; the cited product information does not establish compatibility with those phones.

What does the documented S20 LED Cover do?
On the Galaxy S20 5G cover, Samsung describes rear-cover notification icons for calls, texts, and alarms, with syncing for some other messaging apps. It also describes configurable mood-light patterns when the phone is placed face down and a countdown display for the rear camera. These are features listed for this S20 product, not a guarantee that every Samsung LED Cover has them.

Samsung support also describes a selected LED icon appearing while the rear camera is active. The available functions depend on the genuine cover type: Samsung distinguishes LED View Cover and LED back-cover designs and cautions that features vary. How do you set up and customize a Samsung LED Cover?
- Attach the cover. On Samsung’s Galaxy S20 example, the accessory menu may not appear until the cover is attached.
- Open Settings > Advanced features > Accessories. Samsung identifies this path for the Galaxy S20 example; labels and availability may differ by model or software version.
- Choose LED icon editor to edit supported icons. The options shown depend on the phone and cover.
Samsung’s support article, “How to use a view cover”, also explains the limits of automatic screen behavior. Auto screen unlock when opening a cover is available only if no secure lock method is set, or if Smart Lock keeps the phone unlocked; it does not override a secure lock. Samsung also notes that non-genuine cover types may lack sensors, so opening or closing them may not turn the display on or off.

Why might NFC stop working while the LEDs are active?
Samsung Hong Kong says NFC may be temporarily unavailable while LED light control is active. Its support page gives the example message “NFC isn’t available while using Light control” and says NFC tags cannot be read or written and data cannot be shared between NFC devices during that state. Samsung advises turning NFC on or off from Quick Settings as needed. This is regional support guidance; available settings and behavior can vary by device, software, carrier, and region.

What should you know about charging?
For the Galaxy S20 5G Smart LED Cover, Samsung recommends removing the cover before using Wireless PowerShare. That instruction is specific to the documented S20 cover and Wireless PowerShare; it does not establish that all wireless charging is incompatible with LED Covers.

What to check before relying on an LED feature
- Confirm the cover is intended for your exact phone model, rather than relying on a similar Galaxy name or appearance.
- Attach the cover before looking for its accessory controls, and check whether your software uses the documented menu path.
- Expect functions to vary by cover type; a feature shown for the S20 5G model may not be available on another LED Cover.
- If NFC is unavailable during lighting, check whether light control is active and consult Samsung support for guidance relevant to your region.
