A Samsung Knox Guard (KG) lock is managed by the organization that enrolled the phone—not an ordinary screen lock you can clear yourself. The supported way to remove it is to have the financer, seller, or administrator resolve the device’s status and unlock it through its Knox Guard console. In some cases, that administrator can provide a PIN Unlock for an offline device.
What a Samsung KG lock is
“KG lock” is shorthand commonly used for a lock applied through Samsung Knox Guard. Samsung describes Knox Guard as a cloud service that lets approved organizations remotely manage Samsung devices, including locking and unlocking them. Samsung’s Knox Guard overview and Knox Guard documentation describe administrator-controlled management.
The organization managing the phone may be a financer, reseller, or device administrator. A lock may relate to outstanding payments, a lost or stolen device, or another configured management condition. The administrator can check the device’s status; the shorthand “KG” by itself does not establish the reason or status.

Read the full lock-screen message and note any instructions or organization name. A Knox Guard restriction is different from a carrier or SIM restriction and from a standard screen lock. If the message is unclear, ask the seller, financer, or administrator to confirm whether Knox Guard is managing the device and why it is locked.

How to get a Knox Guard lock removed
If the phone was financed or supplied through a subscription
- Contact the financer or seller that supplied the phone. Ask it to check the device’s Knox Guard status and whether an account or device condition is preventing use.
- Resolve any outstanding account or device issue through that organization. Samsung says a device can be unlocked when it returns to good standing; the managing organization must perform the unlock in its Knox Guard console. Samsung’s administrator documentation explains the console’s lock and unlock functions.
- Ask the organization to confirm that it completed the unlock action. If payment is complete but the lock remains, request that it verify the device’s standing and the console action.
If the phone was bought used
Contact the seller promptly and ask them to arrange for the original organization or account holder to resolve the device’s enrollment or status. Keep the receipt, listing, seller messages, IMEI or serial number, and proof of payment available for the seller’s support process. Samsung’s administrator documentation describes searching devices by IMEI or approval ID, but does not set out a universal consumer dispute or refund process. Knox Guard administrator documentation
If the administrator offers PIN Unlock
PIN Unlock is an administrator-mediated option for an offline device, not a self-service bypass. The user shares the passkey displayed on the lock screen with the administrator, who generates a PIN for entry on the phone. Follow the administrator’s instructions. On devices with hardened security architecture, reconnect the phone to the Knox Guard server within 24 hours; otherwise it may lock again. Samsung’s Knox Guard documentation

What not to try
Do not rely on a factory reset, firmware flashing, or a third-party bypass service to remove the lock. Samsung documents Knox Guard restrictions that can include USB, Bluetooth, NFC, updates, factory reset, and binary flashing; it does not present those actions as an authorized consumer unlock route. If the lock remains after you contact the seller or financer
Ask the organization to identify the status it sees for the phone and whether it has completed the unlock in its Knox Guard console. For a used phone, share the purchase evidence and the device’s IMEI or serial number through the seller’s support process. Samsung’s published documentation establishes the administrator route, but it does not promise a particular consumer escalation or refund outcome.
