Samsung Keyboard settings are under Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings on Samsung’s documented menu path. From there, you can adjust languages, typing assistance, layout, voice input, and other options; the exact labels and available features can vary by Galaxy model and One UI version. If the menu differs, search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard.”
How do I change the Samsung Keyboard settings?
Open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings. If you want to choose a different installed keyboard, go to Settings > General management > Keyboard list and default > Default keyboard, then select an available input method. Samsung documents these paths in its Galaxy Keyboard settings guide; menu names can shift with software updates.
Use the toolbar while typing
The keyboard toolbar puts common tools near the text field. Depending on the device, app, enabled services, and region, it may show emoji, stickers, GIFs, voice input, settings, or other tools. Expand it to see more options; Samsung lists features such as clipboard, text editing, search, translation, Samsung Pass, keyboard size, and Writing assist, but these are not guaranteed to appear on every keyboard.

To change which shortcuts appear, use the toolbar’s expanded view and drag icons to rearrange them where supported. You can also turn the toolbar off in Samsung Keyboard settings. Some tools depend on the app context or an additional app or service. See Samsung’s toolbar and keyboard instructions.

How do I make the keyboard smaller or easier to reach?
Samsung Keyboard offers several layouts on supported devices. Choose one-handed mode to move the keyboard to one side, floating mode to position a smaller movable keyboard, or split mode to separate keys on a wider display. Settings may also include size and transparency, theme, font size, custom symbols, and high contrast; availability and menu placement vary.
- One-handed: useful when you need the keys closer to one thumb.
- Floating: useful when you want to reposition the keyboard on screen.
- Split: useful on a wide screen or in landscape orientation.
Try one layout change at a time, then adjust the keyboard size in its size controls if needed. Samsung describes these layout options in its Galaxy Keyboard settings guide.
How do I change the keyboard language?
Open Samsung Keyboard settings > Languages and types to enable or download keyboard languages. Once more than one language is available, Samsung says you can switch between them by swiping left or right on the space bar. Language names and download options depend on the device and regional support.

How do I turn on voice typing?
Open a text field, bring up Samsung Keyboard, and tap the microphone. Select the available voice-input service and complete any setup or permission prompts. Samsung lists both Samsung voice input and Google Voice Typing; its support page notes that “Samsung voice input is only available when using the Samsung Keyboard.” Check the Samsung voice-input instructions for setup details.
Recognition depends on the selected service, language, microphone permissions, and any language pack available for offline use. Samsung provides instructions for downloading offline voice-language packs for supported languages, but offline dictation is not available for every language or service. These sources do not establish that one service is more accurate than the other.
How do I adjust autocorrect, suggestions, and shortcuts?
Samsung Keyboard’s smart-typing controls let you choose which suggestions and corrections appear. Depending on device and software, options include predictive text, emoji and sticker suggestions, auto replace, text corrections, text shortcuts, capitalization, and spacing.

- Turn off predictive text or auto replace if corrections are getting in the way.
- Use text shortcuts for phrases you enter repeatedly.
- Adjust capitalization and spacing options to match your preferred typing style.

What about Galaxy AI Writing assist?
Writing assist is not a universal Samsung Keyboard feature. Samsung says Galaxy AI features require One UI 6.1 or later on select devices; the eligible model list and individual feature requirements can change. Samsung also notes that some AI functions require a Samsung account, an internet connection, or a minimum amount of text, and that enhanced or third-party AI features may have different terms or fees. The company renamed Chat assist to Writing assist in One UI 7. Check Samsung’s current smart typing and Galaxy AI support information for model eligibility and current conditions.
Can I use an S Pen to type?
Samsung Keyboard includes handwriting input: write with a finger or, on compatible devices, an S Pen, and the keyboard converts the writing to typed text. Samsung Support describes it this way: “The Handwriting mode feature allows you to write text using your finger or a S Pen.” Open the expanded toolbar to find handwriting mode where supported.

S Pen handwriting and S Pen-to-text features depend on the Galaxy model. An S Pen is optional, and compatibility is not universal across Galaxy phones and tablets; check the exact device before choosing a pen. See Samsung’s keyboard guide and handwriting instructions.

Samsung’s reset controls can restore keyboard settings, erase personalized predictions—including learned words—or erase personalized touch-recognition data. Choose only the reset option that matches the problem: erasing personalization removes learned information, while resetting settings returns keyboard preferences to their defaults. Samsung says resetting keyboard settings does not remove downloaded languages.

Which keyboard or input method should I use?
The right choice depends on what you need, rather than a universal performance winner. Compare options against your device and workflow:
- Compatibility: confirm the keyboard or feature works with your Galaxy model and One UI version.
- Language and dictation: check the languages you need and whether supported offline voice packs are available.
- Specific tools: consider handwriting, toolbar tools, and eligible AI writing features.
- Personalization: decide whether you want to keep learned predictions or clear them.
- Availability: check app, service, and regional support for the feature you want.
Samsung Keyboard is configurable as the default input method, Google Voice Typing is available as a voice-input option, and other installed keyboard apps may be selectable through the keyboard list. Samsung’s support pages explain configuration, but do not establish comparative performance for third-party keyboards.
