Samsung Internet is a free browser for compatible Android phones and tablets. You can install or update it through Google Play or Galaxy Store, then tailor its interface, privacy controls, extensions, and video tools to your needs. Samsung support lists Android 9 (P) or later as a baseline, but eligibility and feature availability can vary by device, region, and app version.
Check compatibility and install Samsung Internet
Samsung describes Samsung Internet as a browser for Android smartphones and tablets. Its Korea support article, dated July 1, 2025, gives Android 9 (P) or later as the software baseline and directs users to Google Play or Galaxy Store. Treat that as dated support guidance rather than a guarantee for every market or current release; check the listing on your own device for availability. Samsung support: What is Samsung Internet?
- Open Google Play’s Samsung Browser listing or search for Samsung Internet in Galaxy Store.
- Check that the listing is available for your device and region. Storefronts may label the app “Samsung Browser.”
- Tap Install if you do not have it, or Update if an update is offered. If neither option appears, check your device’s Android version and the store listing’s compatibility information.
The Google Play listing displayed 1B+ downloads when observed on October 7, 2026; that is a storefront threshold, not a usage study or independently measured count. The listing’s feature descriptions and download count can change.
Choose the controls that suit your browsing
Samsung’s current Google Play listing advertises Dark Mode, menu customization, Translator extensions, Secret mode, Smart Anti-Tracking, Smart Protection, text search within images, and Video Assistant. These are advertised features; what appears and how it works can depend on your app build, device, and market. See the current Google Play listing.

Make the browser easier to use
Use the browser’s menu customization and Dark Mode options to adapt the interface to your habits. Samsung lists text search within images as a feature as well; it can be useful when a page contains text embedded in an image rather than ordinary selectable page text. Check the current app menus for the controls available on your version.
Understand privacy controls as separate tools
Secret mode separates its browsing data from regular browsing and, according to Samsung Developer documentation, requires authentication. Samsung describes it this way: “Secret Mode is accessible only after user authentication, and never reveals your browsing data (including browsing history, search history, cookie, cache, ID/password, auto-fill data).” This describes the browser’s handling of data in Secret mode; it does not make you anonymous to websites, network operators, or every form of tracking. Smart Anti-Tracking and Smart Protection are distinct browser protections advertised by Samsung. Their presence is not a guarantee that every tracker or malicious site will be detected or blocked, and no independent effectiveness test is established here. Review the protections in the app’s settings and choose based on your needs.
Add extensions or content blockers when you need them
Samsung’s extension guide says users can open the browser’s Add-ons area, browse the catalog, and install an extension through Galaxy Store as they would an Android app. Samsung says third-party extensions are validated and approved, but the catalog may vary, and the documentation does not establish which extensions are currently available in every region. - Open Samsung Internet and find Add-ons in the browser’s menu or available controls.
- Browse the extensions shown for your device and region; check an extension’s description and permissions before installing.
- Install through Galaxy Store, then return to the browser to see whether the add-on provides its own controls or setup steps.
Content-blocking filters are supplied by separate third-party apps, not necessarily by Samsung itself. Samsung’s documentation does not establish that every blocker works on every site. Use video tools with realistic expectations
Samsung advertises Video Assistant in the app listing. Its developer overview describes video-related controls, including popup video and a floating Video Assistant controller for online videos, but some detailed behavior is tied to older versions. A site’s player, your browser build, and your device can affect what works. Do not assume every streaming service supports picture-in-picture or background playback through the browser. If a video will not open in a popup or continue playing as expected, try the site’s own player controls and check Samsung Internet’s current video settings. If the option remains unavailable, the site or app version may not support that behavior; the product documentation does not establish universal support.
When Samsung Internet is a good fit
It is a practical option if you have a compatible Android device and want Samsung’s browser controls, including its advertised interface customization, privacy features, and add-ons. Before switching or adding extensions, consider:

- Compatibility: Confirm the current store listing supports your device and region.
- Privacy needs: Secret mode keeps its browsing data separate within the browser, while anti-tracking and protection features are not promises of anonymity or complete blocking.
- Extension availability: Check the Galaxy Store catalog on your device rather than assuming a particular add-on is offered where you live.
- Video habits: Confirm behavior on the specific sites and services you use instead of assuming popup or background playback is universal.
- Usability: Try the interface and controls on your own device; no sourced head-to-head test establishes that Samsung Internet is categorically faster, safer, or better than other browsers.
Samsung’s developer documentation also discusses Progressive Web App indicators and home-screen shortcuts, but its detailed descriptions include older version references.
