If ads appear on your Samsung Galaxy Home screen, a third-party app is a likely cause—not proof that One UI Home itself is showing ads. First note where and when the ad appears; then check recently installed or updated apps, Samsung Global Goals if it happens on the Lock screen while charging, and browser settings if it appears in a browser. The right fix depends on the symptom.
Identify where the ad appears
Before changing settings, note whether the ad covers the unlocked Home screen, arrives as a notification, appears inside a browser or another app, or shows on the Lock screen only while charging. Also consider whether it began after an app was installed or updated. Those details point to different causes; Samsung does not identify the responsible app on an individual phone without examining it.
- Full-screen or overlay while unlocked: Check third-party apps, especially ones installed or updated shortly before the ads began.
- Small banner or notification: Review the app named in the notification. Samsung describes notifications as messages from apps; open the Notification panel to identify their source.
- Only in a browser: Check that browser’s pop-up and ad controls.
- On the Lock screen while charging: Check Samsung Global Goals’ charging-screen ad setting.
Samsung says third-party apps can cause ads on the Home screen, Lock screen, or within apps. Its explanation does not mean every recently installed app—or every app in a particular category—is harmful. Samsung’s Galaxy pop-up ad guidance describes the app-based cause and troubleshooting approach.
Check recently installed or updated apps
If the ads started recently, review app installs and updates around that time. Samsung recommends reviewing apps in Google Play and removing suspicious or recently installed apps one at a time. Its US guidance suggests checking Most used or Recently updated apps; its Australia guidance also suggests sorting for recently updated or least-used apps. Samsung specifically flags flashlight, battery, and charging-optimization apps as worth scrutiny in its US guidance, but that is not a claim that all such apps are malicious.

- Uninstall one plausible suspect at a time, then use the phone normally long enough to see whether the ads stop.
Removing apps one at a time helps you tell whether a particular change made a difference. If you cannot identify the app or the ads continue, use Safe mode as a diagnostic check.
Use Safe mode to test whether a third-party app is involved
Samsung says third-party apps do not run in Safe mode, so checking whether the ads stop there can help narrow the cause. If they do stop, return to normal mode and remove or disable the suspected app. Safe mode is a diagnostic step, not a permanent ad-blocking setting.

Samsung Global Goals can show ads on the Lock screen when its charging ad feature is enabled. If ads appear there while the phone is charging, open the Samsung Global Goals app and look in its settings for the charging-screen ad control. Samsung regional pages use different labels, including “Charge screen ads” and “Global Goals whilst charging,” so the wording on your phone may differ.

Turn off that charging-related option if you do not want the ads. This check applies to the Global Goals charging feature; it is not a general fix for ads appearing on the unlocked Home screen. See Samsung UK’s Global Goals charging guidance and Samsung Australia’s instructions for regional examples.
Change browser controls only for browser-related ads
If a pop-up appears after opening Chrome or Samsung Internet, adjust the settings in that browser. Samsung documents pop-up and redirect controls for Chrome, and pop-up blocking and ad-blocker options for Samsung Internet. These settings address browser-related behavior; they are not a universal solution for ads delivered by another app.

Know what ad-personalization settings can—and cannot—do
Samsung’s regional troubleshooting guidance lists privacy and customization controls such as Privacy > Customisation Service, “Customise this phone,” “Customised ads and direct marketing,” and “Opt out of Ads Personalization.” The available labels and paths can vary. These controls address customization or ad personalization; Samsung lists third-party apps and browser settings as separate possible causes, so changing personalization preferences should not be expected to remove every ad.

One UI Home is not the same as an app notification
Samsung describes One UI Home as a preinstalled component that provides navigation and lets you launch apps and widgets; its US guidance says it cannot be removed. Seeing an ad over the Home screen does not, by itself, establish that One UI Home created it. If the item is a notification, identify the sending app in the Notification panel and review that app rather than treating the notification as a Home-screen feature.
Learn more in Samsung’s One UI Home explanation and Samsung’s notification guidance.
Why your menus may look different
Samsung warns that screens and settings can vary by wireless provider, software version, and device model. Its regional Global Goals pages also use different wording for the charging ad option. If you need exact steps, provide the Galaxy model, software version, region, and a description or screenshot of the ad; those details help distinguish an overlay, notification, browser pop-up, and charging-screen ad. Samsung’s device settings guidance notes that available screens and settings can vary.
