The reported U.S. starting prices are effectively tied: Samsung lists the Galaxy Z Fold8 from $1,899.99, while Motorola’s razr fold launched at a reported $1,900. The sharper difference is what you get for carrying each phone: Motorola has larger displays and active-stylus compatibility; Samsung is lighter and more compact.
Price difference: essentially zero at the reported U.S. starting prices
Samsung’s U.S. product page lists the Galaxy Z Fold8 from $1,899.99. Android Central reported that Motorola’s razr fold launched in the U.S. on April 29, 2026, at $1,900 for a configuration with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. On those figures, the difference is just one cent before taxes, promotions, and retailer pricing.
Those are U.S. figures, not global prices. Samsung says availability and models can vary by market, carrier, and retailer. The reported configurations also differ: Android Central says Samsung’s 256 GB and 512 GB models have 12 GB of RAM, while its 1 TB model has 16 GB. Check current offers and compare the same storage tier before deciding which costs less.

Samsung’s figures come from its U.S. product page and August 6, 2026 launch announcement. Motorola’s official U.S. page confirms the razr fold, its processor, and compatible moto pen ultra; the price and several comparative specifications above come from Android Central’s comparison, rather than an official Motorola U.S. price listing.

Displays and portability: bigger canvas or lighter carry?
Motorola offers more screen area
The razr fold’s reported 6.6-inch cover display and 8.1-inch inner display are both larger than the Fold8’s Samsung-published 5.5-inch cover and 7.6-inch inner displays. That makes Motorola the more compelling fit on screen dimensions alone if you want a broader view for reading, multitasking, or watching video. Screen size does not by itself establish display quality or usability.
Samsung is lighter
Samsung lists the Fold8 at 201 g and calls it the lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet in its launch announcement. Android Central reports the razr fold at 243 g, a 42 g difference. That is a meaningful distinction for a device you carry throughout the day, even though weight alone does not establish how comfortable either phone feels in hand.

Stylus support and productivity modes
Motorola’s U.S. product page presents moto pen ultra as a compatible accessory and describes laptop and tent modes. Android Central reports that the active stylus is sold separately, so check the bundle in your market before assuming it is included. Samsung explicitly says the Fold8 does not support S Pen. If handwriting or annotating on the inner display is important, Motorola has the clearer hardware path.

Processor names are not performance tests
Samsung specifies Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy; Motorola names Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The first is the higher named tier, but that distinction alone does not quantify everyday speed, gaming performance, or thermals. No comparable benchmark results are established here.

Battery capacity does not establish battery life
Samsung lists a 4,800 mAh battery. Android Central describes the Motorola battery as larger but does not establish an exact capacity in the information cited here. Capacity cannot tell you how long either phone lasts in real use; comparable runtime testing would be needed for a battery-life verdict.
Camera counts describe hardware, not image quality
Samsung’s product summary identifies a 50 MP wide camera and an ultra-wide camera. Android Central reports three 50 MP rear cameras on the razr fold, including a 3x telephoto. Those configurations suggest different camera coverage, but they do not establish which phone takes better photos or video without equivalent testing.

Durability claims need attribution
Samsung describes strengthened materials on the Fold8. Motorola cites Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 and says its internal testing found over 75% better drop performance than previous-generation devices. Motorola’s page does not specify the test protocol or comparison devices, so treat that figure as a company claim, not an independent durability result. Motorola’s 2026 user guide also notes that specifications may be modified.
