The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and iQOO 16 are 2026 flagships built for different needs: the Fold8 opens into a larger inner screen, while the iQOO 16 is a conventional phone with a high-refresh-rate display and a much larger listed battery. Their published starting prices come from different markets, so they do not establish a like-for-like price difference.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs iQOO 16: Specs Comparison
The clearest distinction is how each phone is built and what its screens are designed to do. The Fold8 has a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch inner display; the iQOO 16 has a single 6.85-inch display. Samsung highlights the Fold8’s wide-format inner screen and 4:3 viewing, while iQOO specifies a 2K Samsung display with a 165Hz refresh rate. Those formats and specifications describe different priorities, not a tested display-quality ranking.
| Specification | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 | iQOO 16 |
|---|---|---|
| Form factor and screen | Foldable; 5.5-inch cover screen and 7.6-inch inner screen | Conventional handset; 6.85-inch screen |
| Display details | Wide-format inner display; Samsung highlights 4:3 viewing | 2K Samsung display; 165Hz refresh rate |
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Supreme Edition, plus a Q4 gaming chip |
| Battery and charging | 4,800mAh; Samsung states up to 26 hours of video playback | 8,400mAh; 100W wired charging |
| Rear cameras | 50MP wide and 50MP ultrawide | 50MP main and 50MP periscope telephoto; iQOO describes the main sensor as 1/1.3-inch |
| Memory and storage configurations | Samsung US lists three storage options, with 12GB or 16GB memory depending on configuration | China configurations: 12GB/256GB, 12GB/512GB, 16GB/512GB, and 16GB/1TB |
| Published starting price | From $1,899.99 in the US before trade-in | From CNY 5,999 in China |
Specifications are manufacturer-listed, not independent test results. The chipset names alone do not establish which phone is faster, and the battery figures are not directly comparable runtime measures: Samsung’s figure is a stated video-playback maximum, while iQOO’s is battery capacity. Camera resolution and sensor details also do not establish which phone takes better photos.
Which form factor fits your use?
Choose the Fold8’s foldable format for a larger working screen
The Fold8’s 7.6-inch inner screen offers more room than a conventional phone display when opened. It is the more relevant option if an expanded screen is central to how you read, view media, or work on a phone. When folded, its 5.5-inch cover screen provides a smaller display for ordinary phone use.

Choose the iQOO 16’s slab design for a single-screen phone
The iQOO 16 keeps the conventional handset format and offers a 6.85-inch display with a specified 165Hz refresh rate. Its official China-market pitch also emphasizes gaming-oriented hardware, including the Snapdragon chipset and separate Q4 chip. The listed features do not substitute for comparable game or performance testing.
Battery, cameras, and configuration: what the figures do and do not tell you
Battery capacity is not the same as tested battery life
The iQOO 16’s listed 8,400mAh capacity is larger than the Fold8’s 4,800mAh. iQOO also lists 100W wired charging; Samsung states up to 26 hours of video playback for the Fold8. Without comparable runtime and charging tests, those figures cannot show which phone lasts longer in everyday use or charges faster under the same conditions.

Camera hardware points to different focal coverage
Samsung lists a 50MP wide camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera. iQOO lists a 50MP main camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera, and describes the main sensor as 1/1.3-inch. The published hardware indicates different rear-camera coverage; it is not evidence of a photo-quality winner.

Price Difference: compare local prices, not the two starting figures
Samsung’s US product page lists the Galaxy Z Fold8 from $1,899.99 before trade-in. The vivo China specifications page lists the iQOO 16 at CNY 5,999 for 12GB/256GB, CNY 6,799 for 12GB/512GB, CNY 7,499 for 16GB/512GB, and CNY 8,499 for 16GB/1TB. These prices are from different markets and do not support a direct price subtraction or an implied US-versus-China value comparison.
The cited official iQOO specifications establish China-market prices only; they do not establish an official price or launch schedule outside China. For a meaningful price comparison, use current local prices for comparable storage tiers and account for taxes, warranty, availability, and any trade-in terms.
Release timing and availability
Samsung identifies 22 July 2026 as the Fold8 unveiling date, and Samsung Mobile Press says general availability began 7 August 2026. iQOO announced the China launch on 29 September 2026. These dates describe the stated launch and availability information for the relevant markets; they do not confirm retail availability in every country.

Which phone should you choose?
- Pick the Galaxy Z Fold8 if an inner screen substantially larger than a typical phone display is the main reason for your purchase.
- Consider the iQOO 16 if you prefer a conventional handset and value its specified 2K, 165Hz display, gaming-focused hardware, large listed battery, or periscope telephoto camera.
- Before deciding on price, confirm that both devices are officially sold in your market, then compare local prices for the configurations you would actually buy.
