Choose the Galaxy Z Flip8 if you want Samsung’s newest flip phone and its lighter, thinner published design. Choose the Z Flip7 only if you can get the same storage and condition for meaningfully less. Their listed screen sizes and typical battery capacity are nearly the same, and the available official specifications do not establish that the Flip8 takes better photos or lasts longer per charge. Because current prices and stock depend on market, compare local offers before deciding.
What is actually different?
The clearest documented hardware difference is portability. Samsung’s Korean specifications list the Flip8 at 180 g and 13.1 mm thick when folded; Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report lists the Flip7 at 188 g and 13.7 mm folded. That is an 8 g and 0.6 mm difference in those published figures. The Flip8 figures come from a Korean regional page, so confirm the specifications for the version sold where you live.

Samsung notes that display diagonals are measured with rounded corners included, so the viewable area is smaller. The Flip7 launch information specifies 60/120 Hz for the cover display; the cited Flip8 specifications do not establish an equivalent refresh-rate figure. Are the Flip8 screens or battery a meaningful upgrade?

Both models are listed with a 4,300 mAh typical battery. That figure describes capacity, not hours of use: it does not establish which phone lasts longer in everyday use. No comparable controlled battery-life result is available in the cited material, so treat endurance as unresolved rather than awarding a winner from capacity alone.
Do the cameras make the Flip8 the better choice?
Samsung lists the Flip8 with 50 MP and 12 MP rear cameras and a 10 MP front camera, and promotes a 50 MP FlexCam and ProVisual Engine. Those are manufacturer-listed hardware and software features; they do not, by themselves, prove better image quality than the Flip7. What about speed, durability, and long-term ownership?
Performance
Samsung’s 2026 Q1 report identifies the Flip7’s processor as Exynos 2500 and lists Android 16 with One UI 8.0. The reviewed Flip8 specification page provides a deca-core CPU and clock speeds but does not identify a chipset name in the available specification extraction. No comparable independent benchmarks are established here, so the evidence is not enough to say how much faster one phone is in real use.

The cited sources do not establish comparative hinge failure rates, long-term durability results, or repair costs. A newer model is not proof of better longevity, and the slimness figures alone do not answer how either hinge will hold up over time.
How should you decide based on price and availability?
Samsung says the Flip8 rollout began on August 7, 2026, in select markets and that availability was set to expand globally. The company’s launch announcement names 106 markets and says sales channels include carriers, retailers, Samsung.com, and Samsung Experience Stores. Samsung also cautions that colors, storage and connectivity options, models, and availability can vary by market, carrier, or retailer. - Compare the current unlocked price of each phone in your country, matching storage and condition. A new Flip7 is not directly comparable with a used or refurbished Flip8.
- Check whether the handset is carrier-locked and whether the seller has the exact model and storage you want in stock.
- Consider the price gap against the Flip8’s documented portability advantage. If the premium is worth a lighter, thinner body and the newest generation to you, the Flip8 is the straightforward choice; if not, a substantially cheaper Flip7 can be better value.
- If you are shopping for a case, search by exact model and confirm fit. The available sources do not validate cross-generation case compatibility.
Samsung reported that pre-orders for its new Galaxy Z lineup increased by more than 30% compared with the previous generation. That is Samsung’s own launch statement about the lineup, not a Flip8-only sales figure, and it does not establish whether the phone is a good value or currently available locally.

Should you upgrade from a Galaxy Z Flip7?
For a current Flip7 owner, the published specifications do not establish a compelling upgrade in screen size or battery capacity. The documented reason to consider switching is the Flip8’s lighter, thinner body; Samsung also lists camera features, but the cited material does not demonstrate a comparative image-quality improvement. Unless those changes address a specific need, compare the cost of upgrading with what you gain rather than treating the new generation as an automatic upgrade.

- Pick the Galaxy Z Flip8 if you want the newest generation and value the published 8 g lower weight and 0.6 mm slimmer folded profile.
- Pick the Galaxy Z Flip7 if it is meaningfully cheaper for the same storage, condition, and carrier status, and you do not consider the Flip8’s portability difference worth the premium.
