To turn off a Galaxy Z Flip6, press and hold the Side button and Volume Down together until the power menu appears. Tap Power off, then tap it again if prompted. You can also shut down from the power icon in Quick settings. If the phone is frozen, use the button combination as a forced restart instead; that recovery step may reboot the phone rather than leave it off.
Turn off a responsive Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung’s English EU Galaxy Z Flip6 manual for the SM-F741B family, revision 1.1 dated August 2024, documents the button method. Samsung’s general power-on and power-off instructions likewise describe the Side and Volume Down buttons.
- Press and hold the Side button and Volume Down button at the same time.
- When the power menu opens, tap Power off.
- Tap Power off again if the phone asks you to confirm.
Use the labels shown on your phone if they differ. Menu wording and arrangement can vary by model, software version, and region.
Power off from Quick settings
If you prefer not to use the buttons, open the notification panel or Quick settings, tap the power icon, and select Power off. Confirm if prompted. Depending on the interface, you may need to swipe down again to expose the power icon; Samsung’s general instructions describe opening Quick settings with a two-finger swipe.

Change what a long press of the Side button does
If pressing and holding the Side button alone launches Bixby, that is the configured press-and-hold action. On the Z Flip6, open Settings → Advanced features → Side button, then choose Power off menu under Press and hold. Samsung notes that available options can differ across devices; on the Z Flip6 manual’s menu, the setting is labeled Side button settings.
If the Galaxy Z Flip is frozen
A frozen phone may not respond to the normal power menu. Samsung’s Z Flip6 manual says to hold the Side and Volume Down buttons for more than seven seconds to restart an unresponsive device. This is a forced restart, not the normal shutdown procedure, and the phone may turn back on. Samsung’s general troubleshooting guidance for a Galaxy phone or tablet that will not turn off says the process can take up to 60 seconds on some models. Follow the timing in your exact model’s manual rather than assuming the Z Flip6 timing applies to every generation.

Which method should you use?
- Buttons: The direct hardware shortcut when you can reach the Side and Volume Down buttons.
- Quick settings: An on-screen route to the same power menu.
- Side-button setting: Useful if you want a long press of the Side button to open the power menu instead of Bixby.
- Forced restart: Reserve this for a frozen or unresponsive phone; it may restart the device rather than shut it down.
The model-specific steps above are documented for the Galaxy Z Flip6 (SM-F741B family). Samsung’s general support instructions cover many newer Galaxy phones, but this guidance does not establish that every Z Flip generation or regional software build uses identical labels or behavior. For an older Z Flip or a menu that looks different, check the Samsung manual for that exact model.
