The Samsung Galaxy XR delivers a remarkably sharp view, capable eye and hand tracking, and a flexible Android XR interface—but its £1,699 UK review price is hard to justify when comfort, performance and battery life have real limits, and the controllers needed for PC game streaming cost extra. It is most compelling for buyers who specifically want a high-resolution mixed-reality headset and are willing to pay for an early Android XR device.
What is the Samsung Galaxy XR?
Galaxy XR is Samsung’s premium mixed-reality headset and the first product built on Android XR, a platform developed by Samsung, Google and Qualcomm. Samsung positions it as a device you can interact with through voice, vision and gestures, with Gemini integrated at system level. Its floating app windows make the headset a spatial interface for Android apps as well as a mixed-reality viewer.
In Expert Reviews’ hands-on review, published on 20 August 2026, Jonathan Bray describes using productivity apps such as Google Docs, Gmail and Slack, video services and Android games. That is the reviewer’s reported use, not a guarantee that every app or workflow will work equally well for every user.

Samsung’s published specifications identify the display and computing platform as the headset’s main technical strengths. The figures below are manufacturer specifications unless noted otherwise.

The resolution is the standout on paper, and Expert Reviews praises the image’s sharpness. The field-of-view, refresh-rate and resolution numbers are Samsung’s specifications, not independent measurements. Samsung’s battery figures are estimates rather than results from a consistent independent test, so actual time will depend on use.
How comfortable is the Samsung Galaxy XR to wear?
Comfort is a significant qualification to the impressive display. Expert Reviews’ reviewer reported forehead pressure during extended wear, finding it uncomfortable at first and still not ideal after acclimatising. The headset’s stated 545 g weight excludes its separate tethered battery, so that figure does not represent the full setup worn or carried.
The reviewer also noticed light leaking around the visor, which affected darker video viewing. Fit and light leakage may vary by face shape and adjustment, but the reported experience is a reason to try the headset on before buying if you plan to wear it for long sessions.

Expert Reviews found eye and hand tracking generally effective, and praised the spatial audio. The reviewer also encountered tracking problems when hands moved outside the cameras’ view or controls were positioned low in the field of view. In practice, that means gesture control is useful but not infallible; keeping hands visible and using gaze selection may help when a gesture is missed.
The review reports that Galaxy XR allows up to four open apps. When a user opens another, the least recently used app is minimized. This makes the headset useful for a few simultaneous windows, but it is not an unlimited desktop replacement for people who routinely keep many apps visible at once. The reviewer also observed occasional slowdowns.
What does Galaxy XR cost, and what is included?
Prices depend on region and date. Expert Reviews listed a UK reviewed price of £1,699. Samsung’s US product page displayed $1,799.99 for the 256 GB model on 7 October 2026; Samsung had also announced $1,799.99 as the US launch price in October 2025. These are distinct regional observations, not a single global price or a guarantee of current availability.

The official controllers are sold separately. Expert Reviews quoted £200 for the controllers when bought with the headset or £249 when purchased later. Samsung’s launch announcement also named a separately sold travel case. Check the current regional listing and what it includes before budgeting for accessories.
Is Galaxy XR suitable for PC gaming?
Samsung’s Game Link feature supports PC game streaming, but Expert Reviews says it requires the official Galaxy XR controllers, which are not included with the headset. That makes the controller an essential additional cost for this particular use, rather than an optional convenience. If PC gaming is your priority, include the controller in the total kit cost and verify current compatibility details before purchase.

How does Galaxy XR compare with other headsets?
The clearest comparison in Expert Reviews’ UK context is with Meta Quest 3: the review describes Quest 3 as including controllers and costing around £500 at the time, while Galaxy XR offers sharper displays at a substantially higher price. That Quest figure is a dated reference from the review, not a current quote. The available evidence does not establish a like-for-like current price comparison with Meta Quest 3 or Apple Vision Pro, and the devices differ in platform and features.
Rather than naming an overall winner, weigh the trade-offs that matter to your use: visual sharpness, comfort and fit, included versus extra controllers, app ecosystem, PC gaming support, battery life and the full regional kit price. Galaxy XR’s display is its strongest apparent advantage; its price and the reviewer’s comfort and performance concerns make it a more specialized choice.
Should you buy a Samsung Galaxy XR?
Galaxy XR makes sense if you want Samsung’s high-resolution mixed-reality display, value an Android-based spatial app environment and accept the price of an early platform device. The case is weaker if you expect long comfortable sessions, consistently quick performance, long battery life or PC gaming without paying extra for controllers.
- Consider it if: display sharpness and Android XR apps are your priorities, and you can try the fit before committing.
- Think carefully if: you plan extended viewing, rely on many simultaneously visible apps or are sensitive to pressure and light leakage.
- Budget beyond the headset if: you want Game Link PC streaming, which the review says requires the separately sold official controllers.
Because prices, availability, software compatibility and accessory bundles can change, confirm the current details for your country before buying. Samsung’s Explorer Pack offer was limited to purchases by the end of 2025 and should not be assumed to remain available.
