Verdict: The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is worth considering if you want a large, bright, rugged Wear OS watch for outdoor training and diving-related features—and you use a compatible Android phone. Its standout display and extensive durability ratings are balanced by a premium price, a bulky 47 mm case, and reviewer-reported battery and tracking shortcomings. If you mainly need everyday smartwatch features, the less rugged Galaxy Watch9 may be the better-value choice.

Is it rugged or dive-ready?
The Ultra2 has ratings that make it more suited to demanding environments than a typical everyday smartwatch: Samsung lists 10ATM+, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H, and identifies EN13319 as its diving-related standard. Samsung also describes dive-related recording features developed in collaboration with Mares. These specifications and software features do not establish that the watch is suitable for every dive, or that it replaces dive equipment or training. Check Samsung’s current guidance and the relevant product and app terms for your intended use. Samsung’s announcement and Samsung Mobile Press’s product overview describe the ratings and diving features.
For land-based workouts, Samsung highlights Trail Run and hydration guidance. The dual-frequency GPS is designed to support positioning, but the reviewed watch did not produce consistently convincing outdoor data in every test: Tom’s Guide reported inflated elevation during a hike, while Android Central criticized run pacing. Those are individual reviewer observations, not evidence that every owner or route will see the same result. See Tom’s Guide and Android Central.

How long does the battery last?
Samsung lists an 800 mAh battery and says it has 35% more capacity than the preceding generation. Capacity is not runtime: actual time between charges depends on settings and use. TechRadar lists a rating of up to 60 hours with the always-on display enabled. Tom’s Guide reported about 72 hours per charge in its own test with always-on display enabled, while Android Central criticized battery performance and charging. Treat the 72-hour figure as one reviewer’s result, not a typical-use promise. Samsung Mobile Press, TechRadar, Tom’s Guide and Android Central report these figures and impressions.
Does the Ultra2 work with non-Samsung phones?
Samsung lists compatibility with Android 13.0 or later and more than 1.5 GB of memory. However, Android Central reports that some features are restricted to Samsung phones. If you use another Android brand, confirm that the specific calling, health, fitness or other features you depend on work with your phone before purchasing; basic Android compatibility does not guarantee feature parity. Android Central’s review discusses the restrictions.

- Everyday protection: Flexible and shock-absorbent layer defends against daily scratches, bumps, and drops
- Raised bezels: Elevated edges offer extra screen protection from direct impacts
- Precise cutouts: Easy access to all buttons and sensors
- Flexible fit: Soft TPU material allows quick and hassle-free installation
- Check for Compatibility: Only compatible with Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 47mm (2026). NOT compatible with Galaxy Watch Ultra 47mm (2025/2024).
How much does it cost, and is the standard Galaxy Watch a better buy?
At review time in 2026, TechRadar listed prices of $699.99 in the US, £649 in the UK and AU$1,299 in Australia. Tom’s Guide listed the US price as $699 and described it as $50 more than the preceding Ultra at launch. These are dated review prices, not current offers; check the price and stock in your market before deciding. TechRadar and Tom’s Guide report those figures.
The standard Galaxy Watch9 is the more relevant alternative if you want many of Samsung’s smartwatch features without paying for the Ultra2’s rugged positioning and large case. Tom’s Guide says the Watch9 shares many features in a less rugged package. For a buyer focused on specialized sports or wilderness use, compare the Ultra2’s activity support and tracking evidence with the specific alternatives under consideration rather than assuming its rugged design makes it a dedicated sports instrument. Reviewers also note that some activity modes, including mountain biking and e-biking, are missing. Tom’s Guide and TechRadar discuss the trade-offs.
Quick Recap
Who should buy the Galaxy Watch Ultra2?
- Consider it if you want a particularly bright display, a rugged-rated 47 mm watch, dual-frequency GPS and Samsung’s outdoor and diving-related features, and the price and size suit you.
- Look elsewhere if you want a lighter, smaller or less expensive everyday watch, rely on features Android Central says are restricted to Samsung phones, or need activity modes and tracking performance that the cited reviews found lacking.
- Check first if you plan to use it for diving or depend on precise elevation or pacing data. The listed ratings and reviewer observations do not establish suitability for every dive or guarantee tracking accuracy in your conditions.
