The most effective way to extend a Galaxy Watch Ultra2 charge without giving up useful features is to change settings selectively: check the watch’s own battery-usage screen, then adjust display behavior, connectivity, notifications, health checks, app permissions and location recording according to your routine. Privacy controls deserve the same treatment. Remove access an app does not need, and keep permissions that support a function you actually use.

Samsung’s figures are a starting point, not a promise. Its Singapore product page lists an 800 mAh battery and estimates up to 60 hours with Always On Display enabled or up to 80 hours with it disabled, with Power saving and Exercise power saving turned off. Actual endurance depends on software, signal, workouts, screen use and other conditions.

Start with a baseline before changing settings

Open Settings on the watch and check Battery and its usage details before you switch anything off. Note the remaining percentage, the estimated time, and which functions are consuming power. This gives you a comparison point and can reveal whether the display, a workout, wireless connections or a particular app is the main cause of drain.

Change one setting at a time and compare the watch on similar days: similar screen brightness, workout duration, cellular or Wi‑Fi conditions and notification volume. Samsung does not publish a universal number of extra hours for each individual toggle, so the watch’s own usage readout is more useful than a generic percentage.

What Samsung’s battery estimate actually means

Configuration Samsung’s published estimate Qualification
Always On Display on Up to 60 hours 800 mAh battery; Power saving and Exercise power saving off; Samsung Singapore product page, retrieved October 13, 2026
Always On Display off Up to 80 hours Same stated conditions; this is a Samsung estimate, not an independent test

“Up to” describes a controlled product claim, not a guaranteed result for every wearer. GPS workouts, weak network coverage, frequent screen wake-ups, health measurements and notifications can all change the outcome.

Display controls: the quickest visible trade-off

Always On Display

Turning off Always On Display is the clearest battery-versus-convenience choice. Samsung’s two published estimates differ by 20 hours when this feature is the stated change and Power saving modes remain off. With it disabled, you must raise your wrist, tap the screen or use a button to see the time.

Keep it on if you routinely glance at the watch without raising your wrist, use it as a desk clock, or need an always-visible workout screen. Turn it off when the watch spends much of the day under a sleeve, when overnight endurance matters, or when you are comfortable waking the display.

Brightness and screen timeout

In the watch’s display controls, reduce brightness to the lowest level that remains readable in your usual lighting. Shorten the screen timeout so an unlocked display does not remain lit after a glance. Samsung’s battery guidance specifically recommends dimming the screen and reducing how long it stays on.

Make these changes together only if they remain comfortable. A timeout that is too short can force repeated taps during a workout, while a dim screen can make outdoor data difficult to read and lead to more wake gestures.

Power Saving, Wi‑Fi and notifications

Use Power Saving when runtime matters most

Enable Power saving for a long day, travel, or an activity where charging is not available. Samsung says the mode can restrict features, including Wi‑Fi and wake-up gesture, and can limit CPU speed, background network activity and location services. Some functions may therefore become unavailable or less immediate.

Power saving is appropriate when a reliable timepiece and selected alerts matter more than full smartwatch behavior. Turn it back off before a feature-dependent workout or task, and check which functions were restricted rather than treating a missing update as an app failure.

Turn off Wi‑Fi when it is not doing useful work

Disable Wi‑Fi when the watch is not connected to a network it needs. This is most useful when the watch is normally within Bluetooth range of the phone or when you are away from a known network. Leave Wi‑Fi enabled if you rely on the watch to download data or communicate while the phone is out of range; otherwise, repeated connection attempts can cost power without adding value.

Trim notifications instead of silencing everything

Review which phone apps are allowed to alert the watch and keep only notifications that deserve wrist attention. Fewer alerts mean fewer screen activations, vibrations and background synchronization. Preserve calls, safety alerts, calendar reminders or messaging notifications you genuinely act on, and remove promotional or high-volume app alerts first.

Health tracking: reduce unused measurements, not useful safeguards

Adjust heart-rate and stress checks

Samsung’s support guidance suggests setting heart-rate and stress measurements less frequently or manually. A less frequent schedule reduces continuous sensing, but it also gives you fewer readings between checks. Choose manual or a longer interval only when continuous information is not important to you.

Disable trackers you never consult

Review the watch’s health-tracking options and turn off trackers you do not use. Keep any measurement that supports a personal routine, training plan or clinician-directed monitoring. Battery savings are not a reason to remove a feature whose data you depend on.

Reducing measurement frequency means less continuous health information. It does not make the watch equivalent to a medical device, and it should not replace advice from a qualified professional.

New-watch drain can be temporary

Do not diagnose a battery fault from the first few days alone. Samsung Support states: “When you first get a new Galaxy watch, the battery will drain faster due to app installations, device setup, and other initial processes.” The watch also learns usage patterns during approximately the first week.

Let installations and synchronization finish, charge normally, and then compare usage after that initial period. If unusually rapid drain continues, inspect the Battery usage list, recently installed apps, network conditions and workout tracking before making broad privacy or health compromises.

Review app permissions one app at a time

Wear OS permission controls let you decide whether an individual app can access sensitive functions. On the watch, open Settings > Apps > Permission manager. The exact categories and wording can vary by software build and device.

  • Check for Compatibility: Only compatible with Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 47mm (2026). NOT compatible with Galaxy Watch Ultra 47mm (2025/2024).
  1. Open Permission manager and choose a sensitive category, such as location, microphone, contacts or physical-activity data, when shown.
  2. Review the apps listed as allowed, denied or asking each time.
  3. Select an app and compare the permission with what the app is supposed to do.
  4. Remove access that is not needed, or choose an ask-each-time option where the watch provides one.
  5. Test the app’s core function. If it stops working, restore only the permission required for that function.

A navigation or workout app may need location, while a simple watch face may not. Permission removal is a privacy choice, not a battery guarantee; background behavior differs by app.

Location access and workout-route recording are separate decisions

Control location permission

For the system-level control, open Settings > Location > App permissions. Review which apps can use location and whether they receive precise access, an ask-each-time choice, or no access. Keep location enabled for an app whose main purpose is navigation or route mapping; remove it from apps that have no location-based purpose.

Choose whether Samsung Health records routes

Samsung Health can record location for supported activities. Its activity-detection controls can offer an option to ask each time or to record precise location, depending on the software and activity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the Samsung Health activity or workout settings on the watch or paired phone.
  2. Find the activity-detection or route-recording control.
  3. Choose Ask each time if you want a decision at workout start.
  4. Disable route recording where available if you want duration, steps or other workout information without a map.
  5. Start a test workout and confirm that the resulting activity contains the level of route detail you intended.

Turning off route recording affects exercise maps. It does not necessarily disable every other location use, so review app permissions separately.

Health Monitor data: save and share deliberately

Samsung Health Monitor readings can be viewed and saved on the paired Galaxy phone. Samsung also allows users to share readings with health professionals when they choose. Treat saving and sharing as separate actions: retaining a reading on the phone is different from sending it to someone else.

  1. Open Samsung Health Monitor on the paired phone and review the available readings.
  2. Save only the results you want to retain for your own records.
  3. Use the app’s sharing function when a specific health professional or appointment requires it.
  4. After sharing, check where the exported or shared file is stored and remove copies you no longer need.

Samsung’s ECG guidance says Health Monitor information is not intended to diagnose or replace medical advice. Use readings as information to discuss with a qualified professional, not as a diagnosis or emergency assessment.

Practical setting profiles

Routine Battery choices Privacy and feature choices
Normal daily wear Keep a comfortable brightness, trim noisy notifications, and leave Wi‑Fi on only when needed. Retain permissions for apps you use; set route recording to ask each time.
Long travel or no charger Turn off Always On Display, dim the screen, shorten timeout and enable Power saving. Disable unused trackers and location access for apps that do not need it.
Workout-focused day Keep the display readable and avoid Power saving if it would restrict required location or background behavior. Allow precise location only for the workout that needs a route; disable route recording for map-free sessions.
Privacy-focused setup Reduce background network activity and unnecessary alerts. Review Permission manager, use ask-each-time choices, and share Health Monitor readings only when you decide to.

If battery life is still poor

  • Check Battery usage again after a comparable day rather than judging from a single workout.
  • Look for a bright, frequently waking display caused by notifications or a long timeout.
  • Confirm whether Wi‑Fi is repeatedly searching for a network.
  • Check whether continuous heart-rate, stress, location or route tracking is enabled when you do not need it.
  • Remember that Power saving may intentionally limit wake-up gesture, Wi‑Fi, location, background networking or processing speed.
  • Allow the approximately first week of setup and pattern learning to pass before deciding that normal behavior is abnormal.

There is no evidence-based universal “best” combination. The right configuration preserves the alerts, measurements, routes and permissions that serve your routine while removing activity you neither use nor want.
