Neither Samsung Galaxy nor Google Pixel is established as categorically more secure. Both use layered protections, but the meaningful comparison is between specific models: their remaining security-update support, documented hardware, update delivery, and the settings you enable.
Why the exact phone matters more than the brand
Galaxy and Pixel cover multiple generations, and security hardware, feature availability, and update commitments differ by model. A brand-level verdict can hide the practical difference between a phone still receiving security patches and one that has reached the end of support.
Compare the precise model and market you intend to use. Check its current security patch level and official support status, then compare the remaining period for security updates. Keep that separate from operating-system upgrades: a phone can receive security patches without receiving a new Android version.
- Support: How long the exact model remains eligible for security updates, and when that period began.
- Delivery: Whether timing or eligibility varies by carrier, region, or device variant.
- Hardware: Which secure processor, trusted execution components, and protected storage are documented for that model.
- Setup: Whether screen locking, account recovery, device finding, app checks, and theft protections are enabled.
How Samsung Galaxy and Pixel describe their protections
Samsung Galaxy and Knox
Samsung describes Knox as a multi-layer security platform embedded in Galaxy devices. Its documented protections include a hardware root of trust, a separate environment for security-sensitive work, isolated storage for sensitive information, secure boot and software verification, tamper detection, and security-update delivery through online, periodic, and urgent channels. Samsung says Knox Vault provides isolated security storage on supported devices; availability depends on the model. Google Pixel
Google’s hardware specifications describe security components and features by model. Titan M2 is listed for specified generations, alongside components such as a trusted execution environment and software protections. Do not assume every Pixel has the same chip or feature set: check the specifications for the exact Pixel model.
These descriptions establish what each manufacturer says its devices include; they do not measure comparative resistance to real-world attacks. The cited material does not provide a controlled Galaxy-versus-Pixel comparison of malware, compromise, or security incidents.

Compare update support by model and start date
Update periods are commitments with eligibility limits, not a universal brand-wide guarantee. Google’s policy gives Pixel 8 and later seven years of OS and security updates from the date each device first became available on the Google Store in the US. The specified Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 generation models have five-year periods, measured from the same US availability event. Pixel Drops may also be included. These dates are not necessarily the date a phone went on sale in another country. Check Google’s Pixel software-update policy for the model.
Samsung’s 2022 announcement promised up to five years of security updates and four generations of Android OS upgrades for select eligible Galaxy devices. It does not establish the current support term for every Galaxy phone. Verify the exact device against Samsung’s current support information; the announcement is available in Samsung Newsroom.

When evaluating a phone you already own, its remaining support is more useful than the original advertised duration. Check its installed security patch level and whether the model is still eligible for updates. Update timing and availability can depend on market or carrier.
Security settings worth checking on a Pixel
Google documents security and privacy controls in Pixel settings, including Play Protect, Find My Device, security-update status, screen lock, biometric unlock, Google Account Security Checkup, and Google Play system updates. Menu names can vary by Android version; Google’s Pixel security and privacy settings guide provides the relevant controls.

Google also documents Android theft protections. Prepare the account and enable location and device-finding settings before a phone goes missing; the behavior available depends on the device and its configuration. See Google’s guidance on protecting personal data against theft.

Which should you choose?
Use the support status and security documentation for the two exact models as the deciding evidence—not a general claim that one brand is safer. Prefer the device with a longer remaining security-update period for your market, documented protections that fit your needs, and settings you are prepared to configure. If the phones are already in use, current patch status and continued eligibility matter more than their launch-era feature lists.
