These 15 Samsung Galaxy settings and shortcuts can make common tasks easier by improving one-handed reach, screen legibility, quick access and automation. They are options to choose from—not a universal checklist: menus and availability vary by model, One UI version and region. If a path below does not match your phone, search for the setting by name in the Settings app.
Which Samsung Galaxy settings make my phone easier to use?
Start with the friction you want to reduce. For easier reach, try One-handed mode or an accessibility shortcut. For clearer screen content, adjust zoom, text or contrast. To avoid repeated setup, organize Quick settings or create a routine. You do not need to enable every option, and some are intended for specific accessibility needs.
How can I reach controls more easily?
1. One-handed mode
One-handed mode temporarily shrinks the display so controls are easier to reach with one hand. On supported phones, open Settings > Advanced features > One-handed mode, then choose a gesture or button trigger. You can reposition the smaller display. Samsung notes that some features may not work while the mode is active; the display returns to normal size after the screen turns off or the phone locks. See Samsung’s One-handed mode instructions.

For thumb-swiped shortcuts, Samsung documents One Hand Operation+ as a separate Galaxy Store app, distinct from built-in One-handed mode. It can assign actions such as opening a favorite app or taking a screenshot to edge gestures. You can adjust the gesture handles to suit your hand and case. It is optional, and whether it is available to you may depend on your device and region. Samsung’s UK guide to One-handed mode and One Hand Operation+ explains the setup.

3. Assistant menu
Assistant menu puts a floating on-screen control menu within reach. It may help if using hardware buttons or multi-step gestures is difficult. Find it under Settings > Accessibility and look for interaction or dexterity settings; the exact label and path vary. Samsung lists it among its Galaxy accessibility options.
4. Touch-and-hold delay
If a long press triggers too quickly—or is hard to maintain—adjust the touch-and-hold delay in Accessibility’s interaction and dexterity options. A longer delay can reduce accidental long presses, but it also means waiting longer when you intend to open a context menu.
5. Tap duration
Tap duration can help a phone distinguish an intentional tap from a brief or accidental touch. Samsung lists it as an accessibility interaction control. Try it if taps are frequently missed or registered unintentionally, and adjust it to a setting that still feels responsive.

6. Ignore repeated touches
Some Galaxy phones offer a control that ignores repeated touches within a chosen interval. It may be useful if the screen registers multiple taps when you intended one. Samsung’s accessibility instructions describe this kind of interaction option, but availability and exact controls depend on software and model.
7. Universal switch or Voice Access
Universal switch and Voice Access are alternative ways to control a device for people who have difficulty using the touchscreen. They are not general-purpose speed tweaks: setup and usefulness depend on a person’s needs and the options available on their phone. Samsung’s accessibility guidance covers these and other controls.
8. Accessibility shortcut
If you already use an accessibility feature, set up a shortcut to open it without returning to Settings each time. Depending on your phone and software, Samsung describes direct access using a hardware-button combination or an on-screen accessibility button. Look in Settings > Accessibility for shortcuts or the feature’s direct-access options. The available shortcut methods vary.

How can I make the screen easier to read?
9. Screen zoom
Screen zoom changes the size of on-screen content. On phones with the documented control, go to Settings > Display > Screen zoom. Increasing zoom can make interface elements easier to see, but fewer items may fit on the screen. Samsung includes Screen zoom in its Galaxy display troubleshooting guidance.

Accessibility settings include font-size controls for readers who need larger text. On some Galaxy phones, related text options may appear in Display settings as well. Increase text size only as much as needed: larger text can cause some screens to show less information at once. Samsung’s accessibility guide describes vision-related options, including font size.
11. High-contrast fonts
High-contrast fonts can make text stand out more clearly against the interface. Look for the option under Settings > Accessibility, typically within vision enhancements. It changes text presentation rather than enlarging everything, so it may suit readers who want stronger contrast without a larger layout.

12. Color filters
Color filters and related color adjustments can change how colors appear on the display. They may help address a particular color-vision or visibility need, but the right setting is personal; a filter can also make other content less natural. Samsung lists color options under Accessibility and mentions Color filter among display controls in its display troubleshooting guide.
13. Dark mode
Choose Dark or Light in Settings > Display on supported devices. Dark mode may feel more comfortable to some people in dim surroundings; it is a preference to test, not a guaranteed eye-health or battery-life improvement. Samsung documents the display choice in its display guidance.

14. Eye comfort shield and Extra dim
Eye comfort shield adjusts the display’s color temperature, with Adaptive or Custom behavior and scheduling on supported devices. Samsung Canada says the feature requires One UI 3.1 or later; its presence and controls still depend on model and software. Try the warmth and schedule that suit you, without assuming the feature provides a medical or sleep benefit. Samsung’s Eye comfort shield instructions describe the available controls.

Extra dim is another control to inspect if the display feels too bright at its lowest normal setting. Samsung’s display troubleshooting page also points to Extra dim, Color filter and Eye comfort shield as options that can alter perceived brightness or color. Their locations can vary.

15. Customize Quick settings
Arrange the Quick settings panel so the toggles you use most often are easier to find. Samsung’s instructions and swipe flow differ by One UI version: its Canada guidance dated January 10, 2026 says newer devices running One UI 7 separate Notifications and Quick settings, while One UI 6.1.1 or earlier uses a combined swipe flow. Follow the instructions for your version in Samsung’s Quick settings guide, then rearrange the available controls to fit your habits.
How can my Galaxy adapt to a recurring situation?
Use Modes and Routines
Modes and Routines can adjust phone actions in response to a condition. For example, a routine could mute notification sounds or change brightness for a recurring context; a mode can configure focus-related behavior such as Do not disturb. Set a condition, choose the actions, and review each one before relying on the automation. Availability of Bixby and Modes and Routines varies by device and software. See Samsung’s Modes and Routines instructions.
Choose settings by the problem you want to solve
- Hard to reach: Try One-handed mode first; consider One Hand Operation+ if thumb gestures would be useful.
- Accidental or difficult touch input: Explore only the interaction and dexterity settings that address your specific issue, such as touch-and-hold delay or Assistant menu.
- Text or controls are hard to see: Adjust Screen zoom, font size or contrast; test color controls only if they meet a specific visibility need.
- A frequent toggle takes too many taps: Put it somewhere convenient in Quick settings.
- You repeat the same adjustments in a predictable context: Consider a routine, and verify its actions before depending on it.
Samsung’s support instructions are specific to their stated markets and may not match every Galaxy model. If a menu path is missing, search Settings for the feature name; some options may not be available on your phone.
