On most recent Samsung Galaxy phones, press and release the Side (or Power) key and Volume Down together. To capture more than one screen, take a screenshot of scrollable content and tap Scroll capture in the toolbar. The available methods and controls vary by model and software version.
How to take a screenshot on a Samsung Galaxy
Use the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side or Power key and Volume Down at the same time, then release them.
- Look for a screen flash or capture preview. Tap the preview if you want to edit or share the image.
On some older Galaxy devices with a physical Home button, the combination is Power + Home. Button names and locations differ across models; if the common combination does not work, check the manual for your device. Samsung’s instructions are in its Galaxy screenshot guide.
Use Palm swipe if your device supports it
Open Settings and search for Palm swipe to capture. If search does not find it, look under Advanced features > Motions and gestures. Turn the setting on, then swipe the edge of your hand horizontally across the screen.

Try voice control or an S Pen
Samsung lists Bixby or Google Assistant voice commands as possible hands-free options, but availability depends on the device and setup. On a Galaxy equipped with a compatible S Pen, open Air Command and choose Screen Write to capture the screen and mark it up. These are optional routes, not features available on every Galaxy.
How to capture a long page as one image
- Open a webpage or other content that continues beyond the screen.
- Take a normal screenshot using the buttons or another supported method.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture to extend the image. Tap it again as needed to capture more of the page.
- Stop when you have the section you need; the extended capture is saved as one image.
The Scroll capture control appears only when the content extends beyond one screen, and some apps or websites do not support it. If it is missing, check that the page can scroll and that the screenshot toolbar is enabled. Samsung describes the feature in its Galaxy screenshot instructions.

Edit, find, or share a screenshot
Tap the screenshot preview to see the controls available on your device. The toolbar may offer cropping, drawing, tagging, scrolling, or sharing; the options vary by model and software.
- Find it later: Open Gallery > Albums > Screenshots. You can also look in My Files > Images.
- Share it: Open the image in Gallery or My Files and tap Share.
- Make a quick change: Use the preview toolbar to crop or draw if those controls are available.
Screenshot or screen recording?
A screenshot saves a still image. To capture on-screen motion as video, look for Screen recorder in the Quick Panel. On supported devices, its settings may include sound selection and an option to show touch interactions. Samsung’s Galaxy screen-recording guide explains the feature and its settings.

Samsung specifies version-dependent recording limits: on devices running Android 10 with One UI 2.5, recording is limited to up to one hour or 4 GB; on Android 11 with One UI 3.0 or later, Samsung says there is no file-size or recording-time limit. These instructions do not establish support on every Galaxy model, so check the Quick Panel and your device’s guidance.
Some apps restrict screenshots or recordings to protect private, secure, or copyrighted content. A blocked capture may be an intentional restriction; use the app’s permitted sharing or export options instead.

What to check when capture does not work
- The button shortcut does nothing: Press Side/Power and Volume Down simultaneously, then release. Check your model’s instructions, especially if it has a physical Home button.
- Palm swipe does nothing: Confirm the setting exists and is enabled, and close the keyboard before swiping. The gesture may not be supported on your model.
- Scroll capture is not shown: Check that the content extends beyond the screen, can scroll, and that the screenshot toolbar is enabled. Some apps and websites do not expose the feature.
- An app blocks capture: The restriction may be intentional. Do not try to bypass it; use an allowed way to save or share the content.
- You need a video, not a still image: Check the Quick Panel for Screen recorder. Its availability depends on the device and software.
