There is no official Galaxy S27+ or Galaxy S27 Ultra camera comparison yet. As of October 18, 2026, Samsung has not published an announcement, product page, release date, price, or camera specification for either model. That means no responsible answer can yet say whether an S27 Ultra is worth more than an S27+, or whether the S27+ has a 5x telephoto lens.

The most useful comparison available today is Samsung’s documented Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra camera split. It shows the hardware direction a future S27 comparison will need to address, without presenting S26 specifications as S27 facts.

S27+ and S27 Ultra status: what Samsung has actually confirmed

Samsung’s current US phone catalog, checked on October 18, 2026, lists the Galaxy S26 Ultra and the Galaxy S26 | S26+ family. It does not list a Galaxy S27+ or Galaxy S27 Ultra. Samsung has also not published official S27 camera specifications, pricing, release timing, or regional availability.

The current, documented baseline: Galaxy S26+ versus Galaxy S26 Ultra

Samsung’s February 2026 Galaxy S26 announcement provides a concrete reference point. These are S26 specifications, not forecasts for the S27 generation.

Camera or feature Galaxy S26+ Galaxy S26 Ultra
Main wide camera 50MP 200MP, F1.4
Ultra-wide camera 12MP 50MP, F1.9
Telephoto cameras 10MP 3x telephoto 50MP 5x telephoto and 10MP 3x telephoto
Optical zoom 3x optical; 2x optical-quality zoom 3x optical and 5x optical
Additional zoom stated on product page Not stated in the cited S26 materials 10x optical-quality zoom from the 50MP telephoto
Video recording 4K at 60fps; 8K at 30fps Not stated in the cited February announcement
Front camera Not stated in the cited S26 materials 12MP, F2.2
Battery 4,900mAh 5,000mAh

The important current-generation distinction is not simply 50MP versus 200MP. The Ultra has a second, longer-reach telephoto camera and a much higher-resolution main sensor, while the Plus has one 3x telephoto and a simpler three-camera arrangement.

What the S26+ camera setup is designed to do

The S26+ combines a 50MP wide camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. Samsung also identifies 2x optical-quality zoom. Its stated video modes include 4K recording at 60 frames per second and 8K at 30 frames per second.

In practical terms, this is a straightforward all-purpose layout: use the wide camera for most scenes, the ultra-wide for architecture or groups, and the 3x telephoto for portraits and moderate-distance subjects. There is no documented 5x optical telephoto on the S26+. If you need a distant subject framed tightly, the phone must rely on cropping, computational processing, or digital magnification beyond its 3x optical camera.

What the S26 Ultra adds

The S26 Ultra starts with a 200MP F1.4 wide camera and a 50MP F1.9 ultra-wide camera. Its telephoto system has two separate cameras: a 10MP F2.4 unit with 3x optical zoom and a 50MP F2.9 unit with 5x optical zoom. Samsung’s product page also describes 10x optical-quality zoom for that 50MP telephoto.

This arrangement gives the Ultra dedicated coverage at both 3x and 5x, rather than asking one telephoto camera to cover every medium and long distance. The 200MP main sensor provides substantially more capture resolution on paper than the S26+ main camera, and the 50MP telephoto offers more source pixels for 5x framing and optical-quality higher magnification. Those specifications establish greater flexibility; they do not, by themselves, constitute an independent image-quality test.

Direct answers to the questions future S27 buyers are asking

Is the Galaxy S27 Ultra camera worth the extra money?

That cannot be answered yet because Samsung has not published an S27 Ultra price or camera specification. For the current generation, the Ultra is the logical choice when your priorities are longer-range photography, a dedicated 5x optical camera, two telephoto focal lengths, and a 200MP main sensor. The Plus is the simpler option when a 3x telephoto and standard wide and ultra-wide coverage meet your needs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not transfer that S26 conclusion directly to S27 pricing or performance. The value calculation will depend on the S27 models’ actual prices, sensor sizes, apertures, stabilization, processing features and regional configurations after launch.

What is the difference between S27+ and S27 Ultra cameras?

No official S27 difference has been published. The documented S26 difference is a 50MP-plus-12MP-plus-10MP layout in the Plus versus a 200MP-plus-50MP main and ultra-wide combination with separate 5x and 3x telephotos in the Ultra. That current split is the best available reference, not confirmation of S27 hardware.

Does the S27+ have a 5x telephoto lens?

Samsung has not said. The S26+ has a 3x optical telephoto, while the S26 Ultra has a 5x optical telephoto. A future S27+ could retain, change, or replace that arrangement; no official source establishes which.

Which Samsung phone is best for zoom photography?

Among the currently documented S26 models, the S26 Ultra is the stronger zoom hardware choice because it has dedicated 3x and 5x optical telephoto cameras. The S26+ reaches 3x optically and identifies 2x optical-quality zoom, but it has no documented 5x optical telephoto. There is no basis yet for naming an S27 model as the best Samsung zoom phone.

How to choose between the current Plus and Ultra approach

Choose the Plus-style system when simplicity matters

  • You primarily photograph people, pets, travel scenes and everyday subjects at 1x to 3x.
  • You want an ultra-wide camera for interiors, landscapes and large groups without needing multiple telephoto focal lengths.
  • You record 4K60 or 8K30 and the S26+ video modes meet your workflow.
  • You prefer the documented 4,900mAh S26+ battery configuration and do not need the Ultra’s additional camera hardware.

The Plus system reduces the number of specialized cameras you need to understand. Its limitation is reach: once a subject is beyond the useful range of the 3x telephoto, framing depends more heavily on cropping and software processing.

Choose the Ultra-style system when reach and capture latitude matter

  • You regularly photograph sports, wildlife, stage performances, distant architecture or details that benefit from 5x framing.
  • You want dedicated optical coverage at both 3x and 5x rather than one telephoto camera serving both roles.
  • You value a 200MP-class main camera and a 50MP telephoto for cropping flexibility.
  • You want the broader documented camera system, including the 50MP ultra-wide and 12MP F2.2 front camera on the S26 Ultra.

The Ultra’s advantage is flexibility, not a guarantee that every photograph will look better. Lighting, subject movement, focus, stabilization and Samsung’s image processing all affect the final result, and no named independent laboratory score or third-party camera test was identified for this comparison.

Optical zoom, optical-quality zoom and digital zoom are not the same

Optical zoom uses a dedicated lens and sensor perspective. On the S26 family, the Plus has 3x optical zoom, while the Ultra has 3x and 5x optical zoom. These are the focal lengths with the clearest hardware-defined reach.

“Optical-quality zoom” describes a computational mode intended to produce results comparable to an optical step under specified processing conditions. It is not a second physical lens. Samsung identifies 2x optical-quality zoom for the S26+ and 10x optical-quality zoom for the S26 Ultra’s 50MP telephoto on the Ultra product page.

Digital zoom or an uncited high magnification setting can enlarge a crop beyond those ranges, but the phone has fewer original pixels covering the subject. When comparing S27 cameras, check whether Samsung is describing a physical optical lens, an optical-quality computational step, or a purely digital magnification.

What to check for low-light and moving-subject photography

The available S27 materials do not state sensor sizes, apertures, stabilization systems or low-light modes. Those omissions matter because megapixel counts alone do not predict night performance. A comparison published after launch should identify, for each camera:

  • Lens aperture, expressed as an F-number.
  • Sensor size and pixel-binning behavior, if Samsung publishes them.
  • Optical or electronic image stabilization and which cameras receive it.
  • Autofocus method and whether the telephoto camera focuses at close distances.
  • Night or low-light modes and the focal lengths at which they operate.

The current S26 Ultra product page gives F1.4 for the wide camera, F1.9 for the ultra-wide, F2.9 for the 5x telephoto and F2.4 for the 3x telephoto. The cited S26 announcement does not provide equivalent aperture details for the S26+ cameras, so those values should not be inferred.

Video and front-camera questions remain open for S27

Samsung documents 4K at 60fps and 8K at 30fps for the S26+. The cited February announcement does not provide a complete equivalent video specification for the S26 Ultra in the material available here. It also does not state the S26+ front-camera resolution, while the S26 Ultra product page lists a 12MP F2.2 selfie camera.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For an eventual S27 comparison, verify more than maximum resolution. Useful distinctions include whether 4K60 works on every rear camera, whether 8K uses a crop, stabilization behavior at each frame rate, HDR support, microphone options, slow motion, and whether front and rear cameras can switch during recording. None of those S27 details has been confirmed.

Body, battery, price and software factors to verify before buying

Camera choice is affected by the rest of the phone, but Samsung has not published S27 body dimensions, weight, thickness, battery capacity, price, software-support period or regional availability. Do not use rumored figures as settled specifications.

The current S26 reference is a 4,900mAh battery in the S26+ and a 5,000mAh battery in the S26 Ultra. Battery capacity is not the same as runtime, and no independent runtime figure is established here. The 100mAh difference should therefore not be treated as proof that one phone will last a particular number of hours longer.

Samsung described the S26 series in its February 25, 2026 announcement as “powered by the most intuitive, proactive, and adaptive Galaxy AI experiences yet.” That statement is Samsung’s positioning language for the S26 series, not evidence of specific S27 camera software. Confirm the S27 support policy and camera-processing features from the launch documentation.

A checklist for the eventual S27 announcement

When Samsung publishes official S27 information, use this sequence before deciding which model suits you:

  1. Confirm the model names and regions. Check Samsung’s newsroom and the store page for your country; a lens or storage configuration can vary by market.
  2. List every rear camera. Record main, ultra-wide and each telephoto resolution, focal length and aperture separately.
  3. Separate optical from computational zoom. Mark physical optical steps, optical-quality modes and digital magnification in different columns.
  4. Check stabilization and autofocus. Note which lenses have optical stabilization and whether telephoto focusing is specified.
  5. Verify video per camera. Record resolution, frame rate, HDR, stabilization and crop limitations rather than copying one headline maximum.
  6. Check the front camera. Compare resolution, aperture, autofocus and video modes, not just megapixels.
  7. Compare physical and ownership details. Verify weight, thickness, battery capacity, price, software-support term and local availability from official pages.
  8. Look for independent testing. Treat laboratory scores and runtime claims as separate evidence from Samsung’s specifications.

Should you buy an S26 now or wait for S27?

If you need a phone now and want the documented longer-range system, the S26 Ultra is the current Samsung option with dedicated 3x and 5x optical telephoto cameras. If your photography is mostly wide, ultra-wide and moderate telephoto work, the S26+ offers the simpler documented layout and still records 4K60 and 8K30.

Waiting is the only way to make a genuine S27-versus-S27 comparison. Until Samsung publishes official specifications, choosing based on an alleged S27 5x lens, sensor resolution, price or launch date means choosing based on information that has not been established.
