The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE and Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G trade different strengths: Samsung lists a dedicated 3x optical-zoom camera, wireless charging and a defined software-update commitment; Xiaomi lists a larger, higher-resolution display, a much larger battery and faster wired charging. In an India price snapshot reported by 91mobiles, the Samsung was ₹79,999 and the Redmi ₹36,999—a ₹43,000 gap, not a confirmed like-for-like price comparison.

The specifications below come from Samsung’s UK product page and Xiaomi’s Global specification page, except for the price figures, which are an India-market snapshot from 91mobiles. Regional models can differ, so these figures should not be treated as a guarantee that every country’s version has identical hardware or features.

How the cameras differ
The clearest hardware distinction is the Samsung’s 8 MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. A dedicated telephoto lens gives the S26 FE an optical-zoom option that is not listed for the Redmi on Xiaomi’s Global specification page. The Redmi’s listed rear cameras are a 50 MP main sensor with OIS and an 8 MP ultra-wide.

Both phones list optical image stabilization (OIS) on the main camera. That spec describes a camera feature, not a guarantee that one phone takes better photos. Likewise, the Redmi’s 16 MP front-camera figure is higher than Samsung’s 12 MP figure, but megapixel counts alone do not establish image quality.
Display, battery and charging
Xiaomi lists the larger display: 6.83 inches, with 2772 × 1280 resolution and a refresh rate up to 120 Hz. Samsung’s UK page describes a 6.7-inch FHD+ display. The Redmi therefore has the larger, higher-resolution panel on these listed specifications; resolution alone does not determine brightness, color accuracy or overall display quality.

The Redmi’s Global specification lists an 8,340 mAh typical battery and 67 W wired charging. Samsung lists a 4,900 mAh battery, 45 W wired charging and 15 W wireless charging. These are capacity and charging specifications, not comparable tests of real-world battery life or charging time. Xiaomi’s cited Global page does not list wireless charging.

Samsung states that the Galaxy S26 FE receives seven major Android OS upgrades and up to seven years of security patches. Samsung’s UK page says it launches with One UI 9 based on Android 17. Xiaomi’s Global specification page lists HyperOS 3 but does not provide an equivalent support-duration commitment. That absence on the cited page does not establish that Xiaomi offers no support; it means a duration cannot be compared from these specifications.

For durability, Samsung UK lists an IP68 rating and Gorilla Glass Victus+. Xiaomi Global lists Gorilla Glass Victus 2, but the cited page does not establish a matching ingress-protection rating. Check the exact local model for its water- and dust-resistance rating rather than inferring one from the glass specification.
India price difference: ₹43,000 in a reported snapshot
91mobiles reported an India-market price of ₹79,999 for the Samsung Galaxy S26 FE at Samsung Shop and ₹36,999 for the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G at Amazon. Subtracting the reported figures gives a ₹43,000 difference. This is a retailer snapshot, not a guaranteed live quote or a confirmed comparison of matching storage configurations; prices and availability can change.

Specifications and included features can vary by market. Xiaomi’s India page, for example, lists a 9,000 mAh typical battery, while its Global page lists 8,340 mAh. Those figures demonstrate why the Global specification should not be assumed to describe the India model. Samsung also has a separate India product page for an 8GB/256GB Galaxy S26 FE.

- Confirm the country-specific model number and storage configuration.
- Check local network-band support and whether features such as eSIM and NFC are available on that SKU.
- Verify the local ingress-protection rating, charger and other box contents rather than assuming they match another region’s listing.

Which phone makes more sense?
- Choose the Galaxy S26 FE if a dedicated 3x optical telephoto camera, wireless charging and Samsung’s stated OS-upgrade and security-patch schedule matter most to you.
- Choose the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G if you prioritize the larger, higher-resolution display, higher listed battery capacity and faster wired charging—and its local variant meets your network and feature needs.
- Compare the actual checkout prices for matching storage and local versions before deciding. The reported ₹43,000 India gap is not proven to be a like-for-like comparison.
