The Samsung Galaxy S25 launched in the U.S. at $799.99 for 128GB, while Apple announced the iPhone 17 Pro at $1,099 for 256GB. That is a $299.01 difference between launch starting prices, but not a like-for-like storage comparison. Samsung’s currently indexed U.S. purchase page lists an unlocked 256GB S25 at $899.99; that page snapshot is not a verified current market price or a direct comparison with Apple’s launch price.
How much more did the iPhone 17 Pro cost at launch?
Samsung Electronics America announced the Galaxy S25 in 2025 with 128GB and 256GB options and a U.S. starting price of $799.99. Apple announced the iPhone 17 Pro in 2025 at a U.S. starting price of $1,099, with 256GB as its lowest listed capacity. The arithmetic difference is $299.01, with the iPhone higher, but the Samsung entry model has half the storage. These are launch prices, not a same-day price check or a claim about current street prices.

Which phone has the better-documented specifications?
The verified manufacturer details available here are fuller for the iPhone 17 Pro than for the Galaxy S25. That is a difference in the specifications established by the cited sources, not proof that the iPhone is better overall. Samsung’s launch and purchase pages confirm S25 storage options and charger status, but the figures needed for a numerical display, chipset, camera, or battery comparison are not established here.

What can be verified for Galaxy S25
Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement lists 128GB and 256GB storage choices and the $799.99 starting price. Its 256GB unlocked purchase page says a charger is not included. The source details available here do not establish matching S25 display dimensions, resolution, chipset, camera configuration, or battery-runtime figures, so a numerical spec table would imply a comparison that has not been verified.

What matters most when choosing between them?
Price and the storage you will actually use
Start with the capacity you need, then compare current offers for that same capacity. The launch-price gap favors the S25, but its 128GB entry configuration is not storage-matched to the iPhone 17 Pro’s 256GB entry configuration. The $899.99 Samsung page listing is specifically for the unlocked 256GB model and should not be set against Apple’s $1,099 launch figure as if both were current quotes.
Operating system and devices you already use
Consider the apps, services, accessories, and other devices already part of your routine, as well as how you expect to move your data. The sources cited here do not establish that either company has a universally superior ecosystem or transfer experience; your existing setup is the relevant starting point.

Display size and handling
Apple specifies a 6.3-inch display and 206g weight for the iPhone 17 Pro. A direct size or weight verdict against the S25 would require Samsung’s corresponding verified figures, which are not established in the cited material. If you are choosing in person, grip and screen size may matter more than a small specification-sheet difference.
Camera reach versus demonstrated image quality
Apple’s listed rear-camera hardware includes a telephoto lens with 4× optical and 8× optical-quality framing, which is useful context if reach is important to you. Those capability descriptions do not show which phone takes better photos or video in practice. That conclusion requires independent, controlled image-quality comparisons, not a megapixel count or manufacturer feature list alone.

Battery claims, charging, and accessories
Apple’s “up to 33 hours” figure is a manufacturer video-playback claim for the iPhone 17 Pro, not an expected runtime for every user or a comparison against the S25. The cited Samsung purchase page says a charger is not included; Apple says the iPhone box includes no power adapter. Check whether you already have a compatible adapter before treating the phone price as the full cost of charging accessories.
AI and software features
Samsung describes Galaxy AI and One UI features in its launch materials, while Apple lists Apple Intelligence. Brand descriptions are not independent measurements of usefulness, and feature availability can depend on region, language, software release, and supported features. Confirm that the specific functions you care about are available for your location and preferred language before making them a deciding factor.

How to make a practical choice
- Pick a storage target. Compare 256GB against 256GB, or another capacity both sellers offer, rather than treating the two entry prices as equivalent.
- Check current U.S. prices together. Confirm the model, storage, unlocked or carrier status, and seller for each quote. The Samsung $899.99 listing is a page snapshot, not a guarantee of today’s price.
- Prioritize your daily use. Give more weight to your existing devices and apps, preferred screen size, and whether telephoto reach is important than to headline feature names alone.
- Verify claims that could decide the purchase. Check current software and AI availability for your region and language, and look for independent camera or battery tests if those are decisive.
- Account for accessories. Neither cited box-content description includes a wall power adapter, so include one if you need to buy it separately.
Samsung executive TM Roh described the Galaxy S25 series as “a fundamental shift in how we interact with our phones.” That is Samsung’s launch positioning, not an independent assessment of the S25 against the iPhone 17 Pro.
