The Galaxy S25 Ultra and iPhone 17 Pro suit different priorities: Samsung offers a larger 6.9-inch screen, a built-in S Pen and four rear cameras, while Apple’s 6.3-inch model has a three-camera system and video tools such as ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2 and genlock. Samsung’s US listing starts $200 above Apple’s announced US launch price, but those figures are from different reference points and are not a matched current-price comparison.
Galaxy S25 Ultra vs iPhone 17 Pro: specifications at a glance
| Specification | Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra | Apple iPhone 17 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Display size | 6.9 inches | 6.3 inches |
| Rear cameras | 200MP wide, 50MP ultra-wide, 50MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom, and 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom | Three 48MP Fusion cameras; Apple describes 4x optical zoom at 100mm and 8x optical zoom at 200mm |
| Front camera | Not stated in the cited Samsung materials | 18MP Center Stage |
| Battery information | 5,000mAh; Samsung claims up to 31 hours of video playback | Apple describes battery improvements but does not provide a directly comparable video-playback figure in its announcement |

| Price reference | Samsung US lists from $1,299.99 before trade-in (accessed 2026) | Apple announced a US starting price of $1,099 at launch in 2025 |
These are manufacturer-published specifications and claims, not results from a controlled head-to-head test. Samsung’s zoom descriptions also distinguish between optical zoom and “optical quality” zoom; those terms should not be treated as interchangeable.
How much more does the Galaxy S25 Ultra cost?
The stated entry-price difference is $200: Samsung’s current US product listing says “From $1,299.99 before trade-in,” while Apple announced the iPhone 17 Pro at $1,099 in the US at launch. The figures do not establish a guaranteed current saving because they come from different dates and contexts, and they are not a matched storage or live-retailer comparison. Apple announced 256GB, 512GB and 1TB iPhone 17 Pro options.

#1 Best Overall
- Stunning 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, ultra‑bright up to ~2600 nits, HDR support, “Vision Booster,” and adaptive color tone — giving vivid colours, great outdoor visibility, and super‑smooth scrolling.
- Powerful internals: it runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3 nm) chip, with 12 GB (or in some markets up to 16 GB) RAM and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage — offering significantly improved CPU/GPU/NPU performance, especially for AI tasks, gaming, and heavy multitasking.
- Advanced quad‑camera system: 200 MP wide main sensor, plus a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto (5× optical zoom), and a 10 MP telephoto (3× optical zoom) — giving flexibility from ultra‑wide through detailed telephoto shots, and strong performance in varied lighting.
- 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast wired charging, wireless charging (Qi2) and reverse wireless charging — balancing long battery life with flexible charging options.
- Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).
Which phone is better for screen size and handling?
Choose the S25 Ultra for a larger canvas and stylus
Samsung specifies a 6.9-inch display and includes an S Pen in the phone. That combination is suited to readers who want more room for documents, drawing or handwritten notes without carrying a separate stylus.
Choose the iPhone 17 Pro for a smaller handset
At 6.3 inches, the iPhone 17 Pro is the smaller of the two. If a less expansive screen is a higher priority than a built-in pen, the size difference is a meaningful point in Apple’s favor. The models sit in different size classes, so screen preference may matter more than a small specification advantage elsewhere.

Which phone has the better camera?
The published camera hardware differs, but megapixel counts and camera specifications alone do not establish which phone takes better pictures. A fair quality verdict would require comparable photos and video captured under the same conditions; no such head-to-head result is established here.
Galaxy S25 Ultra camera hardware
Samsung lists a 200MP wide camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Samsung also describes 2x and 10x “optical quality” zoom. The latter wording is distinct from the listed optical zoom levels.

iPhone 17 Pro camera hardware
Apple lists three 48MP Fusion rear cameras and describes 4x optical zoom at 100mm and 8x optical zoom at 200mm. It also specifies an 18MP Center Stage front camera.
Which phone is better for video production?
Apple’s announced ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2 and genlock features may be useful to people whose work involves post-production or synchronizing multiple cameras. They are workflow capabilities, not proof that every user will get better video from the iPhone. Samsung’s published materials cited here do not establish an equivalent direct video-workflow comparison.

Does the S25 Ultra have better battery life?
Samsung lists a 5,000mAh battery and claims up to 31 hours of video playback for the S25 Ultra. Samsung cautions that actual playback varies with factors including settings, network, file, brightness and battery condition. Apple describes battery improvements for the iPhone 17 Pro but does not provide a directly comparable video-playback number in the announcement. These manufacturer statements do not support declaring a battery-life winner.
Which phone’s build and durability features matter to you?
Samsung highlights a titanium frame, Gorilla Armor 2 display glass and IP68 protection for the S25 Ultra. It also builds the S Pen into the phone. These are Samsung’s stated specifications and features; they do not by themselves establish that the device will withstand every drop, scratch or exposure to water. Choose based on the features you will use and the importance you place on the larger screen and stylus.

How to choose between them
- Pick the Galaxy S25 Ultra if you want the larger 6.9-inch display, built-in S Pen, or Samsung’s four-camera arrangement with listed 3x and 5x optical telephoto cameras.
- Pick the iPhone 17 Pro if you prefer its smaller 6.3-inch size, use Apple’s platform, or need announced video tools such as ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2 and genlock for a production workflow.
- Compare prices carefully if cost is decisive: the $200 gap is between Samsung’s current US starting listing and Apple’s 2025 US launch starting price, not a matched offer for the same storage.
- Do not choose on an assumed camera or battery winner based only on megapixel counts, battery capacity or the S25 Ultra’s playback claim.
