The Galaxy S25 Ultra is the larger, heavier choice with a dedicated multi-level telephoto system and S Pen support; the iPhone 17 is smaller and lighter, with two 48MP rear cameras and Apple’s iOS ecosystem. At US launch, their starting prices were $1,299.99 and $799 respectively—a $500.99 gap, not a current-price comparison. Which makes sense for you depends most on screen size, zoom, the devices and services you already use, and the price in your market.

Which phone is easier to handle?
The iPhone 17 is 41 g lighter and has a 0.6-inch smaller screen diagonal than the S25 Ultra, based on the manufacturers’ listed figures. That difference matters if you prefer a phone that takes up less room in a pocket or is easier to hold one-handed. The S25 Ultra’s larger screen gives more room for reading, multitasking and viewing content, but it is also the heavier, larger device. Neither size is automatically better: consider how you use a phone and, if possible, handle both before buying.

What do the display specifications mean?
Both phones support refresh rates up to 120Hz, so the comparison is not simply “fast Samsung versus slow iPhone.” Samsung lists a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz. Apple lists a 6.3-inch OLED display at 2622 × 1206 pixels, 460 ppi, with ProMotion up to 120Hz. The screen descriptions and resolutions are not identical measures; the figures establish each manufacturer’s stated specifications, not a controlled brightness, color or viewing-quality comparison.
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, ultra‑bright up to ~2600 nits, HDR support, “Vision Booster,” and adaptive color tone — giving vivid colours, great outdoor visibility, and super‑smooth scrolling.
- Powerful internals: it runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3 nm) chip, with 12 GB (or in some markets up to 16 GB) RAM and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage — offering significantly improved CPU/GPU/NPU performance, especially for AI tasks, gaming, and heavy multitasking.
- Advanced quad‑camera system: 200 MP wide main sensor, plus a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto (5× optical zoom), and a 10 MP telephoto (3× optical zoom) — giving flexibility from ultra‑wide through detailed telephoto shots, and strong performance in varied lighting.
- 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast wired charging, wireless charging (Qi2) and reverse wireless charging — balancing long battery life with flexible charging options.
- Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).
How do their cameras and zoom differ?
The S25 Ultra has four listed rear cameras: a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultra-wide, and 10MP and 50MP telephoto cameras. Samsung specifies 3x and 5x optical zoom and up to 100x Space Zoom. The iPhone 17 has 48MP main and 48MP ultra-wide cameras, with optical-quality 2x telephoto. In practical terms, Samsung provides more dedicated telephoto hardware and a wider range of stated zoom levels; Apple’s cited configuration is a two-camera system with a 2x optical-quality option.
Megapixel counts and zoom labels alone do not establish which phone takes better photos. The cited specifications do not include an independent, controlled image-quality comparison, so choose on the basis of the camera configuration you need rather than treating a higher megapixel number or maximum zoom figure as proof of better results.

What do the battery and charging claims establish?
Samsung lists a 5000mAh typical battery capacity and, on its Ireland product page, claims up to 31 hours of video playback. Apple claims up to 30 hours of video playback and up to 27 hours of streamed video. These are manufacturer figures from different product pages, not results from a shared test protocol; they should not be read as evidence that one lasts longer in everyday use. Samsung also cautions that actual battery life varies with usage and network conditions.
Apple says the iPhone 17 can reach 50% charge in 20 minutes using a 40W-or-higher power adapter and a USB-C cable; the adapter is sold separately. That is Apple’s stated charging condition, not a claim that an adapter is included in the box.

Which software and ecosystem suit you?
The Samsung specification sheet lists Android 15 and One UI 7.0, and states seven years of OS and security updates. Apple’s cited iPhone 17 specifications page does not provide a comparable update-year commitment, so a like-for-like support-duration claim cannot be made from these specifications.
For a buying decision, weigh the phone against the devices and services you already depend on. If your daily workflow is built around Android and One UI, the S25 Ultra keeps you in that environment; if you use Apple devices and services, the iPhone 17 fits into iOS. Samsung’s specification sheet says S Pen functionality is available with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It is a distinguishing feature of this model, not a feature with an equivalent stylus listed for the iPhone 17.

What is the price difference?
US launch prices
Samsung announced a US starting price of $1,299.99 for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, while Apple announced a US starting price of $799 for the iPhone 17. The arithmetic difference is $500.99. Apple’s announced starting price included a $30 connectivity discount that required activation with an eligible carrier. These are 2025 launch starting prices, not a statement of what either phone costs now; storage configurations and retailer offers also affect the amount payable.
One dated India retailer snapshot
When 91mobiles was accessed on October 7, 2026, its comparison page showed the S25 Ultra at ₹99,999 at Amazon and the iPhone 17 at ₹79,999 at Flipkart. This is a time-sensitive India listing snapshot, not an official price or a universal current price. The phones were listed by different retailers, so it should not be treated as a same-retailer or enduring offer comparison. Check the retailer and storage configuration in your own market before deciding.

Quick Recap
Which one should you buy?
- Choose the Galaxy S25 Ultra if you want a larger display, dedicated telephoto cameras with 3x and 5x optical zoom, S Pen functionality, or Samsung’s stated seven-year OS and security update commitment.
- Choose the iPhone 17 if you prefer a smaller, 41 g lighter phone, want to stay with iOS and Apple devices or services, or the price you can actually get in your market is the better fit.
- Compare local prices before paying if cost is decisive. The US launch-price gap and the dated India retailer snapshot describe different markets and moments; neither settles today’s price difference for your storage choice.
