The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is still a capable premium Android phone, with a large display, a versatile four-camera rear system, an included S Pen, and long promised software support. But in 2026 it is no longer Samsung’s newest Ultra: the S26 Ultra is the current-generation alternative. The S25 Ultra makes the most sense when its price is meaningfully lower in your market; check current prices for the same storage, condition, and seller before deciding.
What the Galaxy S25 Ultra gets right
A large, polished display and premium construction
Samsung specifies a 6.9-inch display, a titanium frame, Gorilla Armor 2 glass, reduced bezels, and an IP68 rating. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that the phone is impervious to damage. IP ratings are based on controlled conditions; they are not a reason to deliberately expose a phone to water. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra product page lists the design and display details.
A flexible camera setup, including a higher-resolution ultrawide
The rear cameras comprise a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide, a 10MP 3x telephoto, and a 50MP 5x telephoto. Samsung raised the ultrawide resolution from 12MP on the previous generation, giving the S25 Ultra a notable camera-hardware change even though the phone as a whole is an incremental update. The range from ultrawide to telephoto is useful for fitting more into a scene or framing distant subjects without relying only on digital zoom. Samsung also promotes improved low-light video processing; treat that as the manufacturer’s claim rather than an independently established result. Samsung’s launch announcement describes the camera upgrade.

Samsung announced seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for the Galaxy S25 series. That commitment is a practical advantage for owners who keep a phone for several years. It is a support promise, not a guarantee that every feature will be available in every country or on every carrier; rollout timing and feature availability can vary. Samsung’s announcement states the support commitment.
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, ultra‑bright up to ~2600 nits, HDR support, “Vision Booster,” and adaptive color tone — giving vivid colours, great outdoor visibility, and super‑smooth scrolling.
- Powerful internals: it runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3 nm) chip, with 12 GB (or in some markets up to 16 GB) RAM and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage — offering significantly improved CPU/GPU/NPU performance, especially for AI tasks, gaming, and heavy multitasking.
- Advanced quad‑camera system: 200 MP wide main sensor, plus a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto (5× optical zoom), and a 10 MP telephoto (3× optical zoom) — giving flexibility from ultra‑wide through detailed telephoto shots, and strong performance in varied lighting.
- 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast wired charging, wireless charging (Qi2) and reverse wireless charging — balancing long battery life with flexible charging options.
- Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).
Strong results in a controlled battery test
Tom’s Guide measured 17 hours 14 minutes for the 5,000mAh S25 Ultra in its 2025 continuous 5G web-browsing test, with the display set to 150 nits. In a separate run with the display set to 60Hz, it recorded 18 hours 35 minutes. These are results from that publication’s test setup, not a prediction of how long every owner’s phone will last. Brightness, refresh rate, network conditions, and the mix of apps and tasks all affect real-world endurance. Tom’s Guide’s review explains its test and results.
What to know about the S Pen and Galaxy AI
The S Pen remains useful for writing and drawing
The S Pen is included and integrated into the phone, so it remains convenient for handwriting, sketching, and other stylus tasks. The trade-off is that this model’s pen omits Bluetooth remote functions available on earlier Ultra pens. If you used the pen to trigger the camera or relied on Air Actions, the S25 Ultra’s S Pen is a step back in remote control, even though its core writing and drawing role remains. Android Central’s one-year observations discuss the change.

AI availability and reliability have limits
Galaxy AI may depend on country, carrier, device model, and software version. Samsung also cautions that it does not guarantee AI feature output will be accurate, complete, or reliable. Treat AI tools as conveniences to check, not as authoritative sources for consequential decisions. The launch announcement’s six-month Gemini Advanced offer was a historical promotion, not an offer to assume is available now. See Samsung’s product-page qualifications and its launch announcement.
Drawbacks and ownership caveats
It is an evolution, not a wholesale redesign
The S25 Ultra refines the previous Ultra rather than reinventing it. The newer S26 Ultra is the more relevant comparison for buyers shopping at flagship prices: the current comparison reports wider camera apertures and improved low-light capture, faster charging, and an additional year of support for the newer model. Those upgrades do not make the S25 Ultra a poor phone, but they do make the price gap central to the decision. TechRadar’s S26 Ultra comparison covers the generational differences.

Charging is slower than the current generation
The S25 Ultra supports up to 45W wired and 15W wireless charging. The S26 comparison lists up to 60W wired and 25W wireless for the newer model. These are maximum supported rates, not a promise that every charger or charging session will reach them. TechRadar’s comparison lists the two generations’ charging figures.
Some reported concerns are observations, not established failure rates
Android Central’s author described concerns with the fingerprint reader and screen coating, and noted user complaints. Those reports are not quantified representative failure rates, so they should not be read as proof that S25 Ultra units generally have these problems. They are considerations to check on the specific device if buying used or refurbished. Android Central’s one-year account provides the context.

Favor the S25 Ultra if it is substantially cheaper and its camera, charging, and support differences are acceptable to you. Favor the S26 Ultra if the price difference is small and its newer-generation camera, charging, or longer support runway matters more. If you are upgrading from an older Ultra, also consider whether losing Bluetooth S Pen remote features will affect how you use the phone.
Verdict: a good phone whose value depends on the price
The Galaxy S25 Ultra brings together a premium large-screen design, a versatile camera array, solid results in a defined battery test, an included stylus, and an unusually long support commitment. Its main weaknesses are its incremental nature, less capable S Pen remote functionality than earlier Ultra pens, and slower charging than the S26 Ultra. In 2026, it is easiest to recommend when a live local price check shows a meaningful saving over the newer model; without that comparison, there is no reliable universal value verdict.
