Short answer: The Galaxy S25 Ultra includes an S Pen for writing, drawing, screen-off memos and on-screen tools such as AI Select, Translate and Magnify. Unlike earlier Ultra pens, the included pen has no Bluetooth Low Energy, so it does not pair, charge, trigger Air actions or provide location tracking. Samsung lists a 6.9-inch QHD+ display, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy and a 200 MP main camera, while its support commitment is seven generations of Android/One UI upgrades and seven years of security updates from the global launch date.
What is the Galaxy S25 Ultra?
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is Samsung’s largest S25-series phone and the only model in the series listed with an included S Pen. Samsung Electronics America’s US business specification sheet, current as of January 22, 2025, identifies a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy platform and a four-camera rear system.
The S Pen is integrated into the phone rather than sold as a separate Bluetooth accessory. That distinction matters: the pen remains a precise stylus, but the S25 Ultra version deliberately omits the wireless functions that enabled remote gestures on some previous models.
What can the Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen do?
The included pen is useful whenever you want more precision than a fingertip provides. Samsung’s US support guidance lists these principal functions:
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, ultra‑bright up to ~2600 nits, HDR support, “Vision Booster,” and adaptive color tone — giving vivid colours, great outdoor visibility, and super‑smooth scrolling.
- Powerful internals: it runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3 nm) chip, with 12 GB (or in some markets up to 16 GB) RAM and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage — offering significantly improved CPU/GPU/NPU performance, especially for AI tasks, gaming, and heavy multitasking.
- Advanced quad‑camera system: 200 MP wide main sensor, plus a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto (5× optical zoom), and a 10 MP telephoto (3× optical zoom) — giving flexibility from ultra‑wide through detailed telephoto shots, and strong performance in varied lighting.
- 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast wired charging, wireless charging (Qi2) and reverse wireless charging — balancing long battery life with flexible charging options.
- Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).
- Write and draw: Use the pen for handwritten notes, diagrams, signatures, sketches and artwork.
- Screen-off memos: Remove the pen while the display is off and write a quick note without opening a full note-taking app. This is intended for rapid capture rather than a replacement for every document workflow.
- Air Command tools: Inserting or hovering the pen can expose Samsung’s on-screen shortcut menu. Air Command provides access to compatible tools and shortcuts.
- AI Select: Select an area of the display for supported actions.
- Translate: Point at eligible text to use Samsung’s translation tool.
- Magnify: Enlarge a portion of the screen for easier reading or inspection.
- Air View: Preview or inspect supported interface content by hovering the pen.
- Handwriting-to-text: Convert handwriting into typed text where Samsung’s software offers that input option.
Available actions can depend on the app and software version. To review the controls on the phone, open Settings → Advanced features → S Pen. That page is where Samsung places S Pen preferences rather than in a separate Bluetooth-device menu.
Does the S25 Ultra S Pen need to be charged?
No. The included S Pen does not contain the Bluetooth hardware used for wireless pairing and remote control, so it has no rechargeable battery that needs to be topped up. Store it in the phone’s built-in S Pen slot when you are finished. It is ready for writing and supported on-screen tools without a charging cycle.
Does the S25 Ultra S Pen have Bluetooth?
No. Samsung says the S25 Ultra S Pen does not support Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Samsung’s US support statement specifically excludes pairing, charging and remote features such as Air actions, which use gestures and movements to control the phone. Location tracking is not supported either.
This changes what the pen can do, not its basic stylus operation. You can still write, draw, use screen-off memos and open compatible tools, but you cannot use the pen as a remote shutter, presentation controller or gesture remote. Features that depend on a wireless connection cannot be restored through a setting.

Samsung Germany’s March 28, 2025 FAQ also describes the loss of S Pen actions, unlocking with the S Pen and the “keep S Pen connected” behavior. The page mentions an S Pen Pro in that explanation; it should not be read as confirmation that every S Pen Pro function works with the S25 Ultra. Check compatibility for the exact phone and pen model before buying an accessory.
How to use the S Pen on the Galaxy S25 Ultra
- Remove the pen: Press the end of the stored pen and pull it from the phone. There is no Bluetooth pairing step.
- Start a screen-off memo: With the display off, remove the pen and write on the screen when the memo surface appears. Save the note or dismiss it when finished.
- Open Air Command: Remove the pen while the phone is unlocked, or use the on-screen S Pen shortcut if it is already enabled. Choose a compatible tool such as AI Select, Translate or Magnify.
- Adjust options: Go to Settings → Advanced features → S Pen to review available shortcuts and behavior.
- Replace the pen: Slide it back into the slot until it clicks into place. Because the pen has no battery, leaving it stored is for convenience and protection, not charging.
If a particular command is missing, the app may not support it, the relevant shortcut may be disabled, or the phone may be running software that presents a different menu. The absence of Bluetooth means wireless-only commands will never appear for the included pen.
How long will the Galaxy S25 Ultra get software updates?
Samsung’s support commitment is seven generations of operating-system upgrades and seven years of security updates, measured from the global launch date. The company’s US specification sheet summarizes this as “7 years of OS and security updates,” while Samsung’s environmental report gives the more precise distinction between OS generations and security-update duration.

The launch software baseline in Samsung’s specification sheet is Android 15 with One UI 7.0. That is a launch specification, not a statement of the latest build. It does not establish which One UI release or security-patch level is available on October 13, 2026. Update timing and availability can vary by country, carrier and device variant, so check Samsung’s update record for your market before treating any version number as current.
What are the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s key specifications?
The following figures come from Samsung Electronics America’s US business specification sheet and are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent performance or camera tests.
| Component | Galaxy S25 Ultra specification |
|---|---|
| Display | 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X; adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz |
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy |
| Rear wide camera | 200 MP, autofocus and optical image stabilization |
| Rear ultra-wide camera | 50 MP, autofocus and optical image stabilization |
| Rear telephoto cameras | 10 MP and 50 MP, each with autofocus and optical image stabilization |
| Front camera | 12 MP with autofocus |
| Software at the listed baseline | Android 15 with One UI 7.0 |
| Included stylus | S Pen; writing and on-screen tools, without BLE, charging or Air actions |
What does the 6.9-inch QHD+ display mean in practice?
“QHD+” identifies the high-resolution panel class, while Dynamic AMOLED 2X describes Samsung’s display technology. The adaptive refresh rate can reach 120 Hz and vary according to what is happening on screen, balancing smooth motion with power management. Samsung’s sheet gives the maximum refresh rate; it does not promise that every app or situation runs at 120 Hz continuously.

The larger panel is also the clearest hardware distinction when looking at the S25 family, although the S25 and S25+ use different, smaller display configurations. Exact S25 and S25+ dimensions and resolutions are not stated in the cited specification details here.

How capable are the S25 Ultra cameras?
The rear array combines a 200 MP wide camera, a 50 MP ultra-wide camera and two telephoto cameras rated at 10 MP and 50 MP. Samsung lists autofocus and optical image stabilization for each rear camera in the US sheet. The 12 MP front camera also has autofocus.
Megapixel counts describe sensor output and do not, by themselves, predict image quality. Results also depend on lenses, image processing, lighting, stabilization and the camera mode selected. The figures above should therefore be treated as hardware specifications, not as a guarantee of a particular sharpness, zoom quality or low-light result.
Is the Galaxy S25 Ultra waterproof?
Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra environmental report gives the phone an IP68 water-resistance and dust-protection rating. IP68 is a standardized protection classification, not an unconditional promise that water can never cause damage. Liquid exposure, pressure, temperature, wear, impact and the condition of seals can affect real-world protection. Do not interpret the rating as permission to use the phone in every aquatic environment or as a guarantee that liquid damage will be covered.
How does the Ultra differ from the Galaxy S25 and S25+?
For a decision within the S25 family, use three practical axes: screen size and resolution, camera hardware and S Pen availability. Samsung’s US series sheet lists the S Pen only for the Ultra. It also identifies the Ultra’s 6.9-inch QHD+ display and its 200 MP/50 MP/10 MP-plus-50 MP rear camera arrangement, while describing the S25 and S25+ as having smaller displays and different camera hardware.

If handwriting, drawing or screen-off notes are central to your workflow, the Ultra is the model in this series with the included pen. If you do not need a stylus, compare the smaller models on their exact display and camera specifications for your region rather than assuming that a different S25 model has identical hardware.
What should you know before buying a replacement S Pen?
Samsung identifies the S25 Ultra replacement-pen family as EJ-PS938 in its support information, but regional stock-keeping units can differ. Confirm the exact model and regional compatibility before ordering. A generic listing that merely says “S Pen” is not enough, because S Pen features vary substantially between devices.
- Choose the S25 Ultra-compatible pen if you need the same writing and drawing behavior.
- Expect no Bluetooth, charging, Air actions or location tracking from the S25 Ultra pen.
- Do not assume that a pen designed for another Galaxy device will fit the storage slot or expose the same tools.
- If buying a case or screen protector, verify that the listing names the Galaxy S25 Ultra specifically; Samsung’s support FAQ points to S25-series protection accessories but does not certify every third-party product.
S25 Ultra S Pen troubleshooting
The pen writes but a remote feature does not work
That behavior is expected for the included S25 Ultra pen. Bluetooth-dependent Air actions, pairing, charging and location functions are not supported, so there is no connection setting to repair.

Air Command or a tool is missing
Open Settings → Advanced features → S Pen and review the available shortcuts. Tool availability can also depend on the app and software build. AI Select, Translate and Magnify are supported on-screen tools, but they do not make every app S Pen-aware.
The screen-off memo does not appear
Remove the stored pen with the display off and check the S Pen settings. If the phone has a case that interferes with removing or fully inserting the stylus, test with the case removed. The pen does not need to be charged for a screen-off memo; its operation is not battery-dependent.
You are considering an S Pen Pro
Check the exact compatibility statement for the S Pen Pro and the S25 Ultra before purchase. Samsung Germany’s FAQ explains the S25 Ultra’s Bluetooth limitation and loss of S Pen actions; it does not establish that an S Pen Pro’s other wireless functions work on this phone.
Who is the Galaxy S25 Ultra best suited to?
- Choose it for pen-based work: It is the S25-series choice for integrated note taking, drawing, screen-off memos and precise on-screen selection.
- Choose it for the largest, highest-resolution listed display: The 6.9-inch QHD+ panel and adaptive 120 Hz refresh favor reading, creative work and multitasking.
- Choose it for the listed camera hardware: The 200 MP wide, 50 MP ultra-wide and dual telephoto arrangement offers more camera hardware than the smaller S25-series models described in Samsung’s sheet.
- Look elsewhere in the series if you require Bluetooth pen control: The included Ultra pen cannot provide Air actions, remote shutter control or location tracking.
The most important buying qualification is simple: the S25 Ultra’s S Pen is a precise, no-charge writing instrument, not a wireless remote. Pair that understanding with Samsung’s seven-generation/seven-year support promise, the launch-software baseline of Android 15 and One UI 7.0, and the manufacturer’s stated hardware specifications when deciding whether the Ultra fits your needs.
