The Galaxy S25 FE is the lower-cost, lighter choice with a conventional 6.7-inch screen. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra costs far more but opens into an 8-inch workspace and has higher-resolution main and ultra-wide camera sensors. In the cited US 256 GB figures, the Fold’s reported launch price is $1,390 above the S25 FE’s March 2026 manufacturer list price; that is an indicative, mixed-date comparison, not a live-price quote.
Samsung Galaxy S25 FE vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: the key differences
These phones serve different needs. The S25 FE is a conventional smartphone: one flat display, a lighter body and a substantially lower published US price. The Fold8 Ultra is a foldable designed to give you a phone-sized cover screen and a larger display when opened. Its higher price is most defensible if you will make practical use of that larger workspace, rather than simply prefer the idea of a foldable.
| Category | Galaxy S25 FE | Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra | What the difference means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Design and displays | Conventional phone; 6.7-inch FHD+ display, up to 120 Hz | Foldable; 8-inch main display and 6.5-inch cover display, both 120 Hz on the listed India-market model | The FE offers a single flat screen. The Fold adds a larger unfolded area for reading, viewing and working across apps. |
| Processor | Exynos 2400 | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy | They use different platforms. The listed chips alone do not establish which phone is faster in real use. |
| Rear cameras | 50 MP wide, 12 MP ultra-wide, 8 MP telephoto | 200 MP wide, 50 MP ultra-wide, 10 MP telephoto; Samsung lists 8K video recording support | The Fold has higher-resolution wide and ultra-wide sensors on the cited configurations, but megapixels alone do not determine photo quality. |
| Typical battery capacity | 4,900 mAh | 5,000 mAh on the listed India-market model | The stated capacities are close. Capacity by itself does not establish comparable battery life. |
| Weight | 190 g | 215 g on the listed India-market model | The FE is 25 g lighter based on these published figures. |
| Thickness | 7.4 mm | 4.1 mm unfolded; 8.9 mm folded, on the listed India-market model | The Fold’s measurement changes with its position; its folded thickness is greater than the FE’s. |
The Fold8 Ultra was announced in July 2026, with worldwide rollout beginning in August. Samsung said availability and configurations vary by market, carrier and retailer, so the India-market specifications should not be assumed to describe every regional configuration.

The FE gives you a large, flat screen in a lighter conventional phone. The Fold gives you a cover display for folded use plus an 8-inch screen when open, along with camera hardware that has higher stated resolution for its wide and ultra-wide cameras. That added flexibility comes with a higher reported launch price and more weight.

Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy S25 FE for a familiar phone at a lower published price
- You want a conventional smartphone rather than a device that unfolds.
- You value lower weight: Samsung lists the S25 FE at 190 g, compared with 215 g for the cited Fold8 Ultra configuration.
- You want a large, flat 6.7-inch display and do not need an 8-inch unfolded screen.
- Your budget matters more than the Fold’s larger workspace or higher-resolution camera sensors.
- You want the simpler size comparison of one screen and one fixed phone shape, rather than thinking about the Fold both open and closed.
On the published specifications, the S25 FE covers the usual phone-shaped experience without requiring you to make a case for carrying or paying for a foldable. It is also the more straightforward option if your main priority is a published price near $700 for the 256 GB configuration, subject to current availability and offers. This is a specifications-based recommendation, not a claim based on comparative hands-on testing.
The FE’s 6.7-inch panel is already large by the dimensions listed here. If your day-to-day use is messaging, calls, browsing, ordinary video viewing and photos on a conventional handset, the cited specifications do not show that you need the Fold’s extra display area. The question is whether the open screen would change what you do, not merely whether it is larger.
Consider the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if you will use its unfolded workspace
- You often read, watch media or work with content that benefits from an 8-inch display.
- You want the option of a 6.5-inch cover screen when the phone is folded and a larger screen when it is open.
- You have a concrete use for the Fold’s listed camera hardware, including its 200 MP wide sensor, 50 MP ultra-wide sensor or Samsung-listed 8K recording support.
- You are prepared for a higher price and a heavier device in exchange for the foldable design.
- You value the flexibility of a phone that can open into a larger viewing and work area, even if you will still use its cover screen for some tasks.
The Fold is not automatically the better buy because its specification numbers are larger. Its value depends on whether the folding screen changes what you can comfortably do with the phone. If you would mostly use it folded like a conventional handset, the additional screen area may not justify the price difference. Conversely, if reading or viewing on a wider workspace is a regular need, the inner screen is the feature that makes the Fold meaningfully different from the FE.
Before paying extra, think through a normal week rather than an idealized use case. How often would you open the phone? Which tasks would benefit from the larger display? Would you use that screen for long reading sessions, viewing media, or working with more content at once? Samsung’s listed screen sizes and refresh rates establish those specifications, but do not establish that every app is optimized for the Fold or that every task is more productive on it. Treat the workspace as an option whose value depends on your habits.
How much more does the Fold8 Ultra cost?
For a US comparison at 256 GB, Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP list gives the S25 FE a price of $709.99, while TechRadar reported a $2,099.99 US launch price for the Fold8 Ultra’s 256 GB model on July 25, 2026. Subtracting those figures gives a $1,390 difference.
| US 256 GB price reference | Published amount | Price basis |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S25 FE | $709.99 | Samsung Electronics America MSRP list effective March 2026; manufacturer list price, not a current checkout quote. |
| Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra | $2,099.99 | US launch price reported by TechRadar on July 25, 2026; not a live Samsung US quote. |
| Difference | $1,390 | Calculated from the two published figures above, which have different dates and sources. |
Samsung’s March 2026 list also gives the unlocked S25 FE 128 GB model a $649.99 MSRP and says prices may change without notice. That lower-capacity S25 FE price is not a like-for-like comparison with the Fold’s cited 256 GB launch price. If storage matters to you, compare the same capacity where both phones are available and include the actual terms attached to each offer.
Neither amount establishes what you will pay today. Promotions, retailer prices, carrier financing and trade-in offers can change the checkout total. Check the same country, storage capacity and purchase terms for both phones before deciding; the $1,390 figure is useful for understanding the published price gap, not for predicting a current offer.

Also distinguish a headline price from the total cost of buying a phone. A carrier amount may depend on financing, a required plan or bill credits; a trade-in can make one phone appear much cheaper for a buyer who owns an eligible device. A retailer promotion may be temporary or limited to a particular configuration. No current promotion terms for either model are stated here, so verify the conditions rather than treating an advertised discount as a universal price.
The $1,390 calculation is simple subtraction, but it combines two sources and dates: Samsung’s US manufacturer list price for the FE in March and a publication’s reported Fold launch price in July. It is not a comparison of two current checkout pages, and it does not include tax, accessories, financing costs or a trade-in. If you are comparing offers in another country, use that market’s prices and storage tiers instead of converting the US values or applying them to a regional variant.
Display, size and everyday handling
The most consequential hardware difference is the shape of the display experience. Samsung’s US S25 FE product page lists a 6.7-inch FHD+ display with a maximum 120 Hz refresh rate. Samsung India’s Fold8 Ultra specification page lists an 8-inch main display and a 6.5-inch cover display, both at 120 Hz. The Fold’s cover screen is close in diagonal size to the FE’s screen, while unfolding gives you the larger workspace.
These figures are not a direct statement that the FE and Fold cover screens have the same proportions, resolution or viewing area; the supplied specifications give diagonals and refresh rates, and identify the FE as FHD+. They do show the practical format difference: the FE is one conventional screen, while the Fold gives you a second, larger screen by unfolding the device. Both cited Fold displays are listed at 120 Hz, as is the FE display at its stated maximum.
A larger screen can make long-form reading, media and simultaneous on-screen work more comfortable, but those are use-case advantages rather than proof that every app or task works better. The available specifications do not establish app-by-app behavior, durability outcomes or a measured productivity advantage. If a particular app is central to your decision, check its behavior on the exact Fold variant or seek hands-on confirmation rather than assuming the larger panel guarantees a better experience.
Weight and thickness also describe different trade-offs. The FE’s listed 190 g weight is 25 g below the Fold’s 215 g. Samsung India lists the Fold at 4.1 mm thick when unfolded and 8.9 mm when folded, compared with 7.4 mm for the FE. The Fold’s thin unfolded measurement does not describe how thick it is to carry closed; use the folded figure for that comparison.
In practical terms, the Fold is both the heavier device in the cited specifications and thicker than the FE when closed. Its 4.1 mm unfolded figure describes a different state, so it should not be used to argue that the folded phone is thinner than the FE. These measurements can help set expectations, but no comfort testing, pocket-fit tests or durability findings are provided here. If weight and compact handling are priorities, the FE’s 25 g lower listed weight is the clearer specification advantage.

Processor and camera specifications: what the numbers can tell you
Different processors, no verified speed winner here
The S25 FE uses Samsung’s Exynos 2400, while the Fold8 Ultra uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. Those names identify different processor platforms, but the cited material supplies no independent, like-for-like benchmark or battery test. It would therefore be unsupported to translate the processor names into a blanket claim that one phone is faster, runs cooler or lasts longer.

For a buyer, the responsible comparison is to note that these are distinct chipsets and then look for independent testing of the exact regional models if a performance metric is important. No benchmark scores, sustained-load results, gaming frame rates or thermal measurements are reported here. The cited product information also does not establish whether processor differences affect a specific app or task. Avoid treating a product name, core specification or one benchmark from a different device as a definitive answer about everyday performance.
Higher camera resolution is not a guarantee of better pictures
The listed S25 FE rear cameras are a 50 MP wide, 12 MP ultra-wide and 8 MP telephoto system. The cited Fold8 Ultra configuration has a 200 MP wide, 50 MP ultra-wide and 10 MP telephoto system; Samsung also says it supports 8K recording. The Fold’s main and ultra-wide sensors have higher stated resolutions, but megapixel counts do not by themselves show how photos compare in detail, low light, motion or color. No comparative camera testing is established by these specifications.
The specifications therefore support a hardware comparison, not a verdict on final image quality. The Fold’s wide and ultra-wide sensors have substantially higher megapixel counts than the corresponding FE cameras, while the listed telephoto values are 10 MP and 8 MP respectively. The available material does not give comparative lens behavior, image samples, optical zoom ranges, low-light results or stabilization testing. If camera quality is the deciding factor, look for sample images and independent side-by-side tests rather than assuming the 200 MP number guarantees better photos in every situation.
Samsung lists 8K video recording support for the Fold8 Ultra. That is a supported capability, not a claim that every recording condition or workflow will suit every buyer. No recording limits, file-size comparisons, stabilization results or direct video-quality comparison with the FE are provided here. If you do not need 8K recording, that listed capability alone may not justify the higher price; if you do, confirm the feature on the specific regional model you can buy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBattery capacity, charging and software support
Samsung lists the S25 FE battery at 4,900 mAh typical and the Fold8 Ultra battery at 5,000 mAh typical on its India-market specification page. The 100 mAh difference is small on paper, but capacity does not predict battery life on its own. The devices differ in form factor and display setup, and the cited information does not provide a controlled, independent battery-life comparison.
Samsung India lists 45 W charging for the Fold8 Ultra. No comparable S25 FE charging figure, charging-time test or statement about what accessories are included in each regional box is given here. As a result, it supports saying that the Fold listing specifies 45 W, but not claiming that the Fold charges faster than the FE or that it reaches a particular percentage in a set time. Check the local product listing and included-accessory details if charging speed or charger purchase is part of your budget.

Software-support statements also use different regional descriptions. Samsung US says the S25 FE supports up to seven OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. Samsung India describes up to seven OS upgrades for the Fold8 Ultra and lists security updates through July 31, 2033. These statements should not be treated as identical end-date guarantees: they come from different regional product information, and Samsung notes that feature availability and update timing can vary by market, device and carrier. Check the support terms published for the exact model and country you intend to buy.
The Fold’s listed date is a specific security-update end date on the India specification page, while the FE support wording describes a duration of seven years. They are not interchangeable statements without accounting for the device’s market, launch timing and the exact regional policy. The cited product information also does not state a matching calendar end date for both phones. If the length of support is important, verify both the update policy and applicable date for the exact model number and market before purchasing.

The Fold8 Ultra is a released product, not merely an announced device: Samsung’s Global Newsroom said sales began August 7, 2026, in select markets and expanded globally. Samsung also says availability varies by market, carrier and retailer. That means the model, storage configuration, price and support details shown in one country may not match what is offered in another.
Samsung’s July announcement confirms the product’s place in its Galaxy Z lineup, and the August 6, 2026 Global Newsroom notice reports rollout from August 7 in select markets followed by wider availability. “Worldwide rollout” does not mean every configuration is sold everywhere at the same time. A local carrier or retailer may have a different selection from Samsung’s own store, or may not list a particular model. Confirm stock and configuration for your market rather than assuming that a specification page for another country maps exactly to the phone available locally.
- Choose your country first. Confirm that both models are sold in your market and compare the regional versions rather than mixing specifications from different regions.
- Match storage capacity. The price comparison above uses 256 GB for both phones. Do not compare the S25 FE 128 GB MSRP with the Fold’s 256 GB launch price as if they were equivalent configurations.
- Compare current purchase terms. Check live retailer or carrier totals, including whether a displayed amount depends on financing, a trade-in or a promotion.
- Decide whether the Fold’s open screen solves a real problem. Consider how often you would read, view or work on the larger display; compare that benefit with the higher reported launch price and extra weight.
- Verify the regional support terms. Read the software-update information for the exact market and model, because published timing and availability may vary.
- Check the exact configuration. Confirm local storage, color and product details before comparing listings; the sources in this comparison do not establish that every market offers the same combinations.
- Separate specifications from proof of performance. If processor speed, camera results or battery endurance will decide the purchase, seek a like-for-like independent test. The cited specifications alone do not answer those questions.
Samsung’s AI positioning and what it does not tell you
Samsung’s July 2026 Galaxy Z announcement included a statement from TM Roh, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, President and Head of its Device eXperience Division: “As AI becomes more agentic, mobile devices will become the most personal entry point to experiences that understand and adapt to each user.” This describes Samsung’s view of the direction of mobile AI; it is not independent evidence that either phone delivers a better AI experience or is better for a particular buyer.
The cited materials do not establish a feature-by-feature AI comparison between the S25 FE and Fold8 Ultra, nor do they document a measurable AI advantage for either model. Do not use the executive quote as a substitute for checking which software features are available on the exact device, in your language and region, or whether a feature is useful to you. For this buying decision, the verified differentiators here remain the form factor, listed displays, cameras, weight, support details and price references.

What is the price difference between the Galaxy S25 FE and Z Fold8 Ultra?
For the cited US 256 GB comparison, the S25 FE had a $709.99 Samsung MSRP in a March 2026 list, and TechRadar reported a $2,099.99 Fold8 Ultra launch price in July 2026. The difference is $1,390. It is a mixed-date reference, not a current-price quote.
Which phone has the larger screen?
The S25 FE has a conventional 6.7-inch FHD+ display. The cited India-market Fold8 Ultra listing specifies an 8-inch main display and a 6.5-inch cover display, both at 120 Hz. The 8-inch screen is available when the Fold is opened.
Does the Fold8 Ultra take better photos because it has a 200 MP camera?
The Fold’s listed wide camera is 200 MP, compared with 50 MP on the S25 FE, and its ultra-wide is 50 MP versus 12 MP. Those numbers establish higher stated resolution, not better image quality. No side-by-side photo tests are provided here.
Which phone lasts longer on a charge?
The listed typical capacities are 4,900 mAh for the S25 FE and 5,000 mAh for the cited Fold8 Ultra configuration. Capacity alone does not establish battery life, and no controlled comparison is provided here.
Is the Fold8 Ultra heavier than the S25 FE?
Yes, in the cited specifications. The S25 FE is listed at 190 g and the India-market Fold8 Ultra at 215 g, making the Fold 25 g heavier. The Fold is listed as 8.9 mm thick folded and 4.1 mm unfolded; use the folded figure when considering how it carries closed.
How long will Samsung support each phone?
Samsung US says the S25 FE supports up to seven OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. Samsung India lists up to seven OS upgrades for the Fold8 Ultra and security updates through July 31, 2033. These regional statements use different wording; check the policy for your exact market and model.
Does the Fold8 Ultra charge at 45 W?
Samsung India’s Fold8 Ultra specification page lists 45 W charging. No comparable S25 FE charging figure or charging-time test is provided here, so it does not establish which phone charges faster.

Which phone should I buy?
Choose the S25 FE if you want a conventional, lighter phone and prioritize the lower published price. Consider the Fold8 Ultra if you expect to use its 8-inch unfolded workspace and accept the higher reported launch price and extra weight. These are specifications-based recommendations, not hands-on test results.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Galaxy S25 FE is the more practical choice for a lower-cost, lighter conventional smartphone with a large 6.7-inch display. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the option to consider if its 8-inch unfolded screen, foldable format and listed camera hardware solve a real need. On the cited US 256 GB figures, the Fold’s reported $2,099.99 launch price is $1,390 above the FE’s $709.99 March 2026 MSRP, but that is not a live-price comparison. Confirm local availability, equivalent storage and current purchase terms before buying.
