Buy the Galaxy S25 FE if value, screen size, battery capacity and charging speed matter most. It launched at $649.99 in the US, has a 6.7-inch 120Hz display, a 4,900mAh battery and 45W wired charging. Choose the Galaxy S25 instead if you want a compact 6.2-inch phone, the documented performance advantage of Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, 12GB of RAM, a brighter display and a higher-resolution telephoto camera. Those are launch reference prices; current retailer, carrier and regional prices can change, so verify the exact model and storage configuration before buying.
Galaxy S25 FE vs S25 at a glance
The two phones share Samsung’s current design language, a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, 120Hz AMOLED displays and long software support. Their priorities are different: the FE is a large-screen, battery-focused value model, while the S25 is a smaller flagship built around speed, portability and camera hardware.

Storage tiers, colors, regional processors and retail bundles can differ. Treat the table as a specification guide, not a guarantee that every market sells the same SKU. The FE designation does not mean a completely different software experience: both phones are positioned inside Samsung’s Galaxy AI ecosystem and receive the same stated support duration.

Samsung announced the Galaxy S25 FE at a US starting price of $649.99 on September 4, 2025. Tom’s Guide listed the Galaxy S25 at $799 at launch, alongside regional launch references of £649/AU$1,099 for the FE and £799/AU$1,399 for the S25. That is a $149.01 difference before tax, financing, trade-in value or storage changes. These figures describe launch positioning rather than today’s street prices. Promotions, trade-ins, storage capacity and carrier financing can erase or widen the gap.
#1 Best Overall
- MULTIPLE TASKS WITH ONE ASK: Streamline your day with an assistant that gets you. Ask it to Google search for a pet-friendly vegan restaurant nearby and text it to your friend— your Galaxy S25+ handles multiple tasks with a single ask.¹
- START THE DAY SMARTER: Stay one step ahead with a phone that gives you the info you need before you even know you need it with Now Brief.²
- REDUCE THE NOISE. REVEAL THE MAGIC: AI Camera with Audio Eraser lets you capture vibrant videos in low light and minimize unwanted noises so you can relive your favorite moments with fewer distractions.³
- BRING OUT THE BEST IN EVERY FACE: Capture every portrait with clarity and confidence on the Galaxy S25+ Series. The advanced portrait features adjust skin tones and preserve natural textures, giving every shot a polished, professional look.
- MORE POWER TO YOU: Reimagine what’s possible with the Galaxy S25+, featuring our most powerful processor yet. Effortlessly translate your calls, slow down a video, or edit your photos without skipping a beat.
Do not compare a discounted S25 with the FE’s full launch price and call the result a hardware verdict. Match the storage tier, warranty, SIM configuration and included promotions first. A carrier plan can make a flagship look cheaper while adding a multi-month service obligation, and a trade-in credit may apply only to selected devices. Check whether the displayed price is an outright purchase price or a bill credit.
When the FE is the better value
At the original $149 difference, the FE gives you a physically larger screen, a 900mAh larger battery and substantially faster maximum wired charging. Those are daily-use benefits that do not depend on benchmark results. If you stream video, read documents, navigate or play games for long sessions, the extra display area and battery reserve can matter more than flagship silicon. The lower entry price also leaves room in the budget for a case, screen protector or the separate high-wattage charger.
When the S25 becomes the smarter purchase
If a sale brings the S25 close to the FE’s price, its faster processor, extra RAM, brighter documented panel and 10MP telephoto make the premium easier to justify. A price comparison must use the same storage tier and include the cost of accessories: Samsung says the FE’s 45W adapter and 5A cable are sold separately. If you already own a compatible USB Power Delivery charger, that accessory cost may be irrelevant; if not, add it to the FE’s effective purchase price.
Size and display: large-screen comfort versus pocketability
Galaxy S25 FE: more room for media and games
The FE’s 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel is the comfortable choice for split-screen apps, game controls, subtitles and long-form reading. Its 161.3 × 76.6 × 7.4 mm body and 190g weight are correspondingly larger. One-handed use is possible, but reaching the top corners or typing while walking takes more hand movement; a case adds further width and weight. The larger canvas also makes a virtual keyboard and on-screen controls easier to see, which can be useful for users with less room for finger movement.
A large display is not automatically better for everyone. It takes more pocket space, can be harder to balance while lying down and may require two hands for reliable reach across the interface. If you routinely use a phone while commuting, carrying groceries or taking quick photos, the extra 28g and wider body can be more noticeable than the diagonal-size difference suggests.
Galaxy S25: easier one-handed handling
The S25 measures 146.9 × 70.5 × 7.2 mm and weighs 162g. That 28g reduction and narrower body are noticeable in a pocket, small bag or one-handed grip. Its 6.2-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display still runs at up to 120Hz, so scrolling and animation are not downgraded; you simply see less content at once. The shorter reach to the top of the screen is an advantage for calls, quick replies and camera controls.
Both screens are in the same FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X and up-to-120Hz class. Therefore the decision is primarily about physical scale and brightness rather than choosing between a high-refresh FE and a low-refresh S25. Refresh rate can still vary with software mode and workload, so “up to 120Hz” should not be interpreted as a permanently fixed 120Hz in every app.

Outdoor visibility
Samsung Germany documents peak brightness of 1,900 nits for the FE and 2,600 nits for the S25. Peak figures are not the same as sustained brightness in every scene, but they make the S25 the better-documented choice for direct sunlight, outdoor navigation and reflective environments. Both displays use the same broad AMOLED and refresh-rate class. If you spend most of your time indoors, the FE’s lower documented peak may not matter; if you read maps in bright sun, it is a specification difference worth paying for.
Performance, gaming and Galaxy AI
What the hardware difference means
The FE uses Samsung’s Exynos 2400 with 8GB of RAM. The S25 uses Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy and 12GB of RAM. No benchmark scores are established here, so the practical conclusion should stay within the specifications: the S25 has more headroom for demanding games, emulation, sustained video work, large photo projects and heavy multitasking.
The extra four gigabytes of RAM do not make every app open four times faster. They provide more working space for keeping apps resident, which can reduce reloads when you jump between a browser, camera, editor and messaging app. The processor distinction also matters for workloads that run for a long time, although actual temperature and performance depend on game settings, ambient heat, software updates and how aggressively each app uses the chipset.
Choosing for everyday apps
Messaging, web browsing, banking, streaming, camera use and Samsung’s Galaxy AI features are within the FE’s intended mainstream workload. Eight gigabytes is adequate for typical use, but aggressive multitaskers may see more app reloads than on the S25. If you keep a game, browser, editor and communication apps open simultaneously, the S25’s 12GB allocation gives it a larger buffer.
Samsung Executive Vice President Jay Kim described the FE as a gateway to the broader Galaxy AI ecosystem, making those experiences more attainable. That positioning is important: buying the FE does not mean giving up the headline AI features Samsung advertises for the range. The S25’s faster platform may offer more performance headroom for demanding or repeated AI tasks, but the available feature set can also change with One UI updates and regional availability.
Choosing for gaming
For casual and moderately demanding games, the FE’s larger screen and 120Hz mode are appealing. Competitive players and people who run graphically intensive titles for long sessions should favor the S25’s Snapdragon platform and higher memory ceiling. Actual frame rates, heat and battery drain depend on game settings, ambient temperature, software updates and network conditions; neither phone should be promised a fixed gaming runtime without a controlled test.
The choice is therefore a preference between a more comfortable play surface and more performance margin. A player who mostly runs turn-based games, cloud games or short sessions may value the FE’s size and battery. Someone who uses demanding 3D games, emulators or recording tools for extended periods should treat the S25’s processor and RAM as insurance against a heavier workload.

Battery life and charging
Capacity advantage: Galaxy S25 FE
The FE has a 4,900mAh typical battery, compared with 4,000mAh in the S25. That 900mAh difference gives the FE more capacity for long video sessions, navigation days and gaming away from a charger. It does not guarantee a specific number of hours: mobile signal, brightness, refresh rate, camera use and processor workload can change endurance substantially. The FE also has a larger display, so the capacity advantage should be viewed as useful reserve rather than a guaranteed percentage increase in runtime.
Charging advantage: Galaxy S25 FE
With a compatible charger, the FE supports up to 45W wired charging; the S25 supports up to 25W. Samsung states that the FE’s 45W adapter and 5A cable are sold separately, so the maximum rate may require an additional purchase. Both phones support wireless charging. Check the charger’s USB Power Delivery and PPS compatibility rather than assuming any 45W label will deliver the phone’s maximum rate.
Maximum wattage is a peak specification, not a promise that the phone remains at 45W from zero to full. Charging typically changes as the battery fills, and heat, cable quality and charger compatibility can lower the instantaneous rate. The practical benefit is faster top-ups when you have a short break, provided the charger and cable support Samsung’s requirements.
Which battery trade-off suits you?
- Choose FE: you regularly finish the day away from outlets, use a high-brightness large display, or want shorter top-up times.
- Choose S25: you value a lighter phone and accept a smaller battery in exchange for the compact body and faster chipset.
- Consider either: if you charge overnight or keep a wireless pad at your desk, the FE’s larger capacity and 45W ceiling may be less decisive than size and performance.
Camera comparison
Main and ultrawide cameras
Both models pair a 50MP main camera with a 12MP ultrawide. That shared hardware means the choice is not about losing the basic wide and ultrawide perspectives. Samsung describes AI editing, Nightography and ProVisual features for the FE, while both phones benefit from Samsung’s computational photography and image-processing stack.
For everyday photos at the main and ultrawide focal lengths, the specification sheet does not establish a decisive winner. Lighting, subject movement, autofocus behavior, stabilization and Samsung’s processing can influence the result more than the headline megapixel count. If your photo library is mostly people, food, pets and landscapes at standard focal lengths, either model covers the same basic camera roles.

The distinction is the 3x telephoto: the FE uses an 8MP sensor, while the S25 uses a 10MP sensor. Both provide 3x optical zoom, but the S25’s higher-resolution telephoto specification gives it more information for distant subjects and crops at that focal length. It is the more defensible choice for travel details, portraits from a distance and frequent zoom use.
The FE still has a real optical telephoto rather than relying only on digital cropping. That makes it useful for occasional signs, pets or architectural details. The S25’s advantage is resolution at the same 3x perspective, not a different zoom range. Beyond the optical range, software processing and lighting can affect the result, so do not treat the sensor-size difference as a guarantee in every scene.

What the specification does not prove
Megapixel count alone does not determine every photograph. Exposure, stabilization, autofocus, color processing and software updates affect results, and conditions such as night scenes or moving subjects can change the ranking. The documented hardware advantage belongs to the S25 telephoto; do not assume that makes every camera mode superior without a controlled comparison.
Software support and long-term ownership
Samsung’s FE announcement promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. The S25 specification sheet also lists seven years of OS and security updates. Both therefore have an unusually long support horizon for a phone purchase, reducing the pressure to replace either model quickly. The commitment is especially relevant if you plan to keep the phone through several battery cycles or hand it to another family member later.
The German comparison records the FE launching with Android 16 and One UI 8, while the S25 launched with Android 15 and One UI 7. Those starting versions are historical; updates can change the software on phones sold later. Verify the version installed on a particular retail unit if a specific Android or One UI release matters to you. A warehouse unit may need several updates during setup, so allow time for downloads and a restart before judging the phone’s initial software state.
Long support does not eliminate ordinary ownership costs. A case, screen protector, replacement cable and eventual battery service are separate from the update promise. Confirm warranty coverage in your country and keep the exact model number with your purchase records, especially when buying an imported regional SKU.
Which Galaxy should you buy?
Buy the Galaxy S25 FE when these priorities match
- You want the lowest launch-positioned price and do not need flagship-level performance headroom.
- A 6.7-inch display is more useful to you than a compact body.
- You prioritize the 4,900mAh battery and 45W wired charging.
- Your gaming is mainstream rather than sustained, high-end or emulation-focused.
- You are comfortable buying a compatible 45W adapter separately if you need maximum charging speed.
- You mostly take standard wide and ultrawide photos and only occasionally use 3x zoom.
- You want the same seven-generation OS and seven-year security commitment listed for the S25.
Buy the Galaxy S25 when these priorities match
- You want a 162g, 6.2-inch phone that is easier to hold and pocket.
- You run demanding games, emulators, video tools or many apps at once and can use the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy and 12GB RAM.
- You spend significant time outdoors and prefer the documented 2,600-nit peak brightness.
- You use the telephoto camera often and want the 10MP sensor rather than the FE’s 8MP unit.
- A sale brings the S25 close enough to the FE that portability and performance outweigh battery capacity.
- You already own a suitable 25W or faster charger and do not need the FE’s 45W ceiling.
How to compare the exact deal before checkout
- Confirm the model number and region. Check the retailer’s full SKU, SIM configuration, storage capacity and processor listing; regional configurations can differ.
- Compare like-for-like prices. Match storage tiers and include taxes, carrier obligations, trade-in credits and any promotional expiry.
- Check the box contents. The FE’s 45W charging capability does not mean a 45W adapter is included; Samsung says the adapter and 5A cable are sold separately.
- Measure your case and screen-protector choice. The 161.3 × 76.6 × 7.4 mm FE and 146.9 × 70.5 × 7.2 mm S25 require model-specific accessories.
- Review update status. A phone that has been sitting in inventory may show an earlier Android and One UI version; install available updates after setup.
- Check charging compatibility. Confirm USB Power Delivery and PPS support, cable rating and whether the charger is included before budgeting for 45W charging.
- Decide which compromise you will notice daily. Hold a compact 6.2-inch phone if one-handed use matters, or view a 6.7-inch model if reading and gaming comfort matters more.
- Use the return policy intelligently. If possible, test pocket fit, one-handed reach, outdoor legibility and camera grip during the retailer’s return window.
Bottom line
The Galaxy S25 FE is the value pick: it combines the lower $649.99 US launch price with a larger 120Hz display, 4,900mAh battery and 45W wired charging. The Galaxy S25 earns its premium with a much smaller and lighter design, higher documented peak brightness, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, 12GB RAM and a 10MP telephoto camera. Buy the FE for screen and battery utility; buy the S25 for portability, sustained performance and the stronger zoom specification. If current prices converge, the S25 is generally the better performance-and-portability value, while the FE remains the better large-screen choice.
