The Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at $1,899.99 in the United States, compared with $1,099.99 for the 256GB Galaxy S25 Edge on Samsung’s March 2026 list. That makes the entry Fold8 $800 more by listed price. The practical choice is whether you want a slim, conventional phone or a heavier phone that unfolds into a much larger screen.

How much more does the Galaxy Z Fold8 cost?

For the United States, Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP sheet lists the unlocked 256GB Galaxy S25 Edge at $1,099.99. Samsung’s US Fold8 page starts at $1,899.99, and Tom’s Guide reports that price for the Fold8’s 256GB configuration. On that 256GB comparison, the Fold8 costs $800 more. These are listed prices, not a promise of what you will pay at checkout; retailer offers, trade-ins and availability can change the total. Samsung’s March 2026 US price list and the Samsung US Fold8 page provide the price basis.

256GB $1,099.99 (Samsung US MSRP, March 2026) $1,899.99 (Samsung US starting price; also reported by Tom’s Guide) Fold8 is $800 more

Which phone has the better screen for your use?

Galaxy S25 Edge: conventional phone display

The S25 Edge has a 6.7-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate. Samsung says the viewable measurement is 6.5 inches when rounded corners are accounted for. It provides a large screen in a standard phone shape without the need to open the device.

Galaxy Z Fold8: a small outer screen and a larger inner screen

The Fold8 pairs a 5.5-inch cover display with a 7.6-inch main display. Open it when you want more room for reading, video or working with multiple windows; keep it folded for a more compact screen. Samsung also describes rotating the main screen for a reading orientation. The 7.6-inch diagonal is not directly equivalent to a conventional phone screen: the Fold8’s inner display has a different, wider shape. Details appear in Samsung’s Fold8 availability and display explainer.

Which one is easier to carry?

The S25 Edge measures 158.2 × 75.6 × 5.8mm and weighs 163g. Samsung lists the Fold8 at 201g and highlights its 4.5mm thickness when open. The Edge is therefore 38g lighter. The 4.5mm figure describes the unfolded Fold8, not its folded thickness, so it should not be read as a direct pocket-size comparison with the Edge. Samsung’s S25 Edge specifications and its Fold8 product page give these dimensions and weights.

How do their cameras differ?

The S25 Edge has a 200MP main camera with optical image stabilization and 2x optical-quality zoom, plus a 12MP ultrawide camera. The Fold8 has two 50MP rear cameras; Tom’s Guide notes that the standard Fold8 does not have a dedicated telephoto camera. The Edge offers a higher-resolution main sensor and an ultrawide option, while the Fold8’s listed rear-camera setup lacks a separate telephoto lens. Megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos.

What do the battery numbers tell you?

Samsung lists the S25 Edge’s typical battery capacity as 3,900mAh. It says a 25W adapter can charge it to about 55% in around 30 minutes; the adapter is sold separately. The Fold8 has a 4,800mAh battery, but the larger capacity by itself does not prove longer everyday battery life.

Tom’s Guide measured 12 hours and 19 minutes for the Fold8 in its 5G web-surfing battery test. That is one outlet’s result under that test, not a head-to-head comparison with the S25 Edge or a prediction for every user. A directly comparable battery test for both phones is not established here. Samsung’s Edge battery details are in its specifications announcement, and the Fold8 test is described in Tom’s Guide’s review.

What protection and durability differences matter?

Samsung specifies IP68 water and dust resistance for the S25 Edge under its stated laboratory conditions and lists a titanium frame. For the Fold8, Samsung describes an Armor Aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2; Tom’s Guide reports an IP48 rating. The Edge has the stronger published ingress rating, but neither rating means a phone is indestructible. With the Fold8, its folding screen and exposure to dust are additional considerations when choosing how to use and protect it. See Samsung’s Edge specifications and Tom’s Guide’s Fold8 review.

Which phone should you buy?

Choose the Galaxy S25 Edge if

  • You want a slim, conventional phone rather than a foldable.
  • Lower listed US pricing and a lighter device matter more than having an expansive inner screen.
  • You value a 200MP main camera and an ultrawide camera in the rear-camera setup.

Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if

  • You expect to use the 7.6-inch inner screen for reading, video or multi-window work.
  • You are comfortable carrying a 201g device and paying more for the foldable form factor.
  • The flexibility of a small cover display and larger opened display is more useful to you than a single conventional screen.

This is a specification-based recommendation: the Fold8 is the better form-factor fit for someone who will regularly use its unfolded display, while the S25 Edge is the more straightforward choice for slimness, lower listed price and a conventional phone design. For full specifications, see Samsung’s Fold8 page and Samsung’s S25 Edge announcement.
