The Galaxy S24 is a modest step up in size and listed battery capacity, but its rear-camera hardware is broadly similar to the Galaxy S22. Whether it is worth paying more depends on today’s local offers, storage, condition and battery health—not Samsung’s historical launch-era prices.

Specifications are from Samsung’s Galaxy S22 listing and Galaxy S24 listing, which cover regional models and may not match every market variant. The S22’s Singapore listing and S24’s Saudi listing are not a universal SKU comparison.
What changes in the display, size and handling?
The S24 is listed with a 6.2-inch-class screen, compared with the S22’s 6.1-inch display; both have FHD+ resolution and belong to Samsung’s Dynamic AMOLED 2X display family. Samsung’s S24 series page specifies an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate. The cited S22 listing does not provide a directly comparable refresh-rate figure, so the table does not imply a measured difference between the two phones.

Are the S24 cameras better than the S22 cameras?
The listed rear-camera hardware is similar: both phones have a 50MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto camera and a 12MP ultrawide camera, with 3x optical zoom. Samsung describes the S24’s 2x option as “optical-quality” zoom via Adaptive Pixel; it is not a separate optical lens. The S22 listing also gives a maximum of 30x digital zoom.
The S24 has a 12MP front camera versus 10MP on the S22. Megapixel counts and camera specifications alone do not establish which phone produces better photos or video in real use. The cited listings also differ on 8K video: 24fps for the S22 and 30fps for the S24, with the latter figure coming from Samsung’s Saudi regional listing. Confirm the specification for the exact market model you are considering.

Does the S24’s larger battery mean longer battery life?
Samsung lists typical capacity as 4,000mAh for the S24 and 3,700mAh for the S22. That is a higher rated capacity on paper, not a guarantee of a specific number of extra hours. Samsung notes that actual battery life varies with factors such as network and usage. An older or used S22 also needs to be judged by its individual battery health, which the published capacity figure cannot tell you.
What is the price difference?
Samsung Electronics America’s official price sheet, effective May 2024, listed these unlocked US prices. They are historical MSRP, not current transaction prices; the S22 entries were marked end of life in that sheet.
Rank #3
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
| Storage | Galaxy S22 unlocked US MSRP | Galaxy S24 unlocked US MSRP | Difference in that May 2024 sheet |
|---|---|---|---|
| 128GB | $699.99 (marked end of life) | $799.99 | S24 was $100 more |
| 256GB | $849.99 (marked end of life) | $859.99 | S24 was $10 more |
These figures should not be treated as today’s prices or as a current availability claim. For a purchase decision, compare actual local listings for the same storage and unlocked or carrier status. The cited price sheet is Samsung Electronics America’s May 2024 price sheet.
Which phone is the better buy?
The S24 is the more straightforward choice if the price difference is acceptable and you value its slightly larger display, greater listed typical battery capacity or higher-resolution front camera. Those specifications do not, by themselves, prove a particular battery-runtime or photo-quality advantage.
Rank #4
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
An S22 could make sense if it is substantially cheaper and in good condition, but its age makes device-specific battery health and seller terms especially important. Compare the actual offers rather than relying on historical MSRP.

- Match storage capacity before comparing prices.
- Check whether each phone is unlocked or tied to a carrier, and verify compatibility with your network.
- For a used S22, ask about battery health and inspect the device’s condition.
- Check the exact model’s software status against Samsung’s current regional support information; the cited launch and manual details do not establish the remaining update period for an individual phone. Samsung’s S22 support page lists an Android 16 user manual dated 2025.
- Compare warranty, return terms and seller reputation alongside the price.
Charging and box contents
Samsung’s S24 announcement says the power adapter and data cable are sold separately. Box contents and charging requirements can vary by region, so check what comes with the exact phone and whether you need a compatible USB-C adapter.
