To take a screenshot on your Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, press the Side button and Volume Down together, then briefly release them. The screen flashes when the capture succeeds. You can also enable Palm swipe for a gesture, use Scroll capture for longer pages, and find saved images in Gallery or My Files.
How do you take a screenshot with the buttons?
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side button and Volume Down at the same time, then release them after a brief moment.
- Look for the screen flash that confirms the screenshot was taken.
Samsung’s US support guide illustrates this button combination for the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Its guidance also describes holding the buttons until the screen flashes on some instructions, so the phone’s response can depend on software behavior. If the first attempt does not work, try a short, simultaneous press again. A bulky case can sometimes make the buttons harder to press; temporarily remove it if it gets in the way. Can you use a hand gesture instead?
Yes. Turn on Palm swipe to capture, then swipe the edge of your hand horizontally across the display.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Advanced features, then Motions and gestures.
- Switch on Palm swipe to capture.
- Swipe the edge of your hand across the screen.
Palm swipe does not work while the keyboard is displayed. If the setting is missing, its availability may vary with the phone’s software or model. Menu names can also differ by software version and country; if you cannot find a listed option, search Settings for “Palm swipe to capture.” See Samsung’s motions and gestures guidance.

How do you capture a long page?
Use Scroll capture after taking a regular screenshot of content that continues beyond the screen. When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture to extend the image down the page. Continue scrolling as needed, then tap outside the toolbar to finish.
If Scroll capture does not appear, the content may fit on one screen, the screenshot toolbar may be disabled, or the app or website may not support scrolling screenshots. Check Settings for the screenshot or screen capture toolbar option if the toolbar is missing. Where are screenshots saved?
Open Gallery > Albums > Screenshots to browse them. You can also use My Files > Images. From the screenshot toolbar or the saved image, use the editing controls to draw or crop; tap Share to send it through an available app. Samsung lists these locations and actions in its UK screenshot guide.
What if the screenshot does not work?
- An app blocks capture: Some apps and screens, including banking apps, prevent screenshots for security. The phone may display a message such as “Can’t take screenshot due to security measure.”
- Palm swipe does nothing: Confirm the setting is enabled and that the keyboard is not on screen.
- Scroll capture is absent: Make sure the page extends beyond the screen, check that the screenshot toolbar is enabled, and bear in mind that some apps or sites do not support the feature.
- The button combination fails: Press Side and Volume Down together and release after a brief moment. If a case obstructs button access, remove it temporarily and try again.
- A Settings label differs: Samsung notes that menu availability and wording can vary by model, software version, and country. Search Settings for the feature name if the listed path does not match your phone.
