The Samsung Galaxy A37 5G is the more future-facing choice on paper: it has a larger screen and battery, and Samsung has announced a longer software-support commitment. The older Galaxy S20 FE 5G has one notable hardware advantage for some buyers: a dedicated telephoto camera. Which is the better buy depends on current local prices, the S20 FE’s condition and compatibility, and whether optical telephoto framing matters to you.
Price difference: launch prices are not today’s price comparison
Samsung announced a U.S. starting price of $449.99 for the Galaxy A37 5G, with U.S. availability beginning April 9, 2026. Samsung’s U.S. announcement for the Galaxy S20 FE in September 2020 gave a starting price of $699. The arithmetic difference between those two launch figures is $249.01, with the A37’s launch figure lower—but the prices are six years apart and do not establish the current price difference.
For a buying decision, check live local listings for the same storage tier and an unlocked model where possible. An S20 FE listing may be used, refurbished, or remaining stock; compare its condition and seller terms with the A37’s current retail offer rather than treating the 2020 launch price as a current S20 FE price. Samsung’s U.S. announcement also noted that the A37’s Awesome White color would be available at Amazon.com; that does not confirm a current price or stock status. Samsung’s U.S. A37 announcement and its 2020 S20 FE announcement provide the launch-price context.

Which camera setup is more useful?
Choose the S20 FE if you want a telephoto camera
Samsung’s S20 FE 5G datasheet lists a dedicated 8MP telephoto camera alongside 12MP wide and ultrawide cameras. That gives it a distinct camera type the A37’s listed rear-camera array does not have. Samsung also advertised 30X Space Zoom at launch, but that marketing figure is not a promise of equivalent detail across zoom levels.

Choose the A37 for its listed main and macro cameras
Samsung UK lists a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), an 8MP ultrawide, and a 5MP macro camera for the A37. A higher megapixel count alone does not establish better image quality than the S20 FE, and the published specifications do not settle which phone takes better photos overall. The S20 FE’s 32MP front-camera figure and the A37’s 12MP figure likewise do not prove which takes better selfies.
Display, battery, and durability
The A37’s screen is 6.7 inches diagonally, compared with 6.5 inches on the S20 FE. Samsung UK specifies up to 120Hz for the A37, while Samsung’s 2020 S20 FE launch materials cite a 120Hz display. The larger A37 screen may suit readers who prefer more display area; actual viewing experience also depends on brightness, settings, and personal preference.
Samsung lists the A37 battery as 5,000mAh typical and the S20 FE battery as 4,500mAh. Those capacity figures do not establish which phone lasts longer in use: Samsung notes that estimated battery life varies, and no direct comparative battery test is established here.
Both phones carry an IP68 rating in Samsung’s materials. For the A37, Samsung UK describes the rating’s lab basis as up to 1.5m of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. An IP rating is not a guarantee against every water exposure or against damage as a phone ages.

Software support: the A37 has the longer published commitment
Samsung announced three generations of Android OS upgrades for the S20 FE at launch. For the A37, Samsung states up to six OS upgrades and up to six years of security updates; timing and availability vary by model and market. These are commitments announced by Samsung, not a statement of the S20 FE’s current patch status or a guarantee that every A37 variant will receive updates on the same schedule.
How to decide between the Galaxy A37 and S20 FE 5G
- Compare current local prices. Match storage and unlocked status where possible. Treat the S20 FE as a possible value option only if a verified listing is meaningfully cheaper than the A37.
- Decide whether telephoto matters. The S20 FE has a dedicated telephoto camera; Samsung’s listed A37 rear cameras are wide, ultrawide, and macro.
- Prioritize the support horizon. Samsung’s published commitment is longer for the A37, although the exact timing depends on model and market.
- Check the specific device before buying. For a used S20 FE, inspect battery and screen condition, confirm network compatibility, and review the seller’s return terms. Do not assume a listing’s condition or compatibility from the model name alone.
- Verify the configuration and total cost. Storage options, box contents, and included charging accessories can differ by region or listing. Confirm the exact variant and what is included before comparing prices.
Is the Galaxy A37 better than the S20 FE 5G?
Not for every buyer. The A37 is the more straightforward choice if current pricing is competitive and you value a larger screen, higher stated battery capacity, and Samsung’s longer published support commitment. The S20 FE can make sense if a specific listing is substantially cheaper, its condition and network compatibility check out, and you want its dedicated telephoto camera. The available specifications do not establish a universal winner or a current resale-price gap.
