The Samsung Galaxy M17 5G is the budget option, while the vivo X300 FE is a compact flagship-class phone with a much higher price, a dedicated telephoto camera, and faster charging. Samsung’s October 2025 launch prices started at ₹12,499; vivo’s latest listed India variants, announced in August 2026, start at ₹84,999. Choose based on budget and the features you will use—not on a single spec-sheet number.
India prices: how large is the difference?
The phones occupy very different price tiers. Samsung’s figures below are October 2025 launch prices, not current retailer quotes. vivo announced one set of prices in May 2026 and a revised variant lineup in August 2026; the August announcement is the latest listed lineup here.

On the latest announced entry variants, the X300 FE costs ₹72,500 more than the M17’s 4GB/128GB launch price. That is a comparison of dated announced prices, not a live market-price difference; check current seller listings before buying. vivo’s May 2026 launch release had listed ₹79,999 for 12GB/256GB and ₹89,999 for 12GB/512GB. Its August release lists those capacities at ₹89,999 and ₹99,999 respectively, so use the later announcement when referring to the lineup.

These figures come from manufacturer specifications and announcements. Brightness figures are described differently by the brands—HBM peak for Samsung and local peak for vivo—so they are not a controlled, directly comparable screen test. Likewise, battery capacity and charging wattage alone do not establish which phone lasts longer in everyday use.

Which phone is better for your priorities?
Choose the Galaxy M17 if price and a large display matter most
- You want a substantially less expensive phone based on the published launch prices.
- You prefer a larger 6.7-inch display for reading, video, or general viewing.
- You want a three-camera setup that includes an ultrawide camera and macro camera.
Samsung announced six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates for the M17 at launch. Its product page lists security support through 30 September 2031. These are Samsung’s support commitments, rather than an independently verified record of update delivery.
Choose the vivo X300 FE if compact size and higher-tier hardware justify the price
- You want a smaller 6.31-inch phone; its listed weight is nearly the same as the larger M17’s.
- You value a dedicated 50MP OIS telephoto camera. On paper, that gives the X300 FE a distinct option for zoomed framing compared with the M17’s ultrawide and macro cameras; it is a hardware comparison, not a hands-on image-quality verdict.
- You want the higher-tier Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 platform, more listed battery capacity, faster wired charging, or wireless charging.
- You place value on the listed IP68/IP69 ratings.
vivo’s August 2026 announcement says the X300 FE will receive five years of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. That is the company’s stated policy, not independently verified update history.

What the specifications do—and do not—settle
The spec sheets establish clear differences in price tier, screen size, camera hardware, charging specifications, and protection ratings. They do not establish a real-world winner for camera quality, battery endurance, durability, or performance: the available manufacturer information is not a side-by-side independent test. If those outcomes matter more than the listed hardware, look for comparable testing before making the purchase decision.
