Samsung Galaxy phones include tools that can automate settings, keep two apps in view, capture part of the screen, and share files with fewer steps. Here are ten features worth trying, what each one does, and where to look for it.
Names and menus can vary by model, country, carrier, and One UI version. If a path differs on your phone, search for the feature name in Settings or the Quick panel.
1. Automate changes with Modes and Routines
Modes and Routines can change settings or start actions when a condition is met, such as arriving at a location or connecting to a device. That can help your phone adapt without requiring you to remember every setting change.
Open Settings > Modes and Routines to explore available options. For example, a routine can turn on a hotspot or enter Airplane mode when its conditions are met. Samsung’s One UI 5 examples also included opening an app pair and adjusting audio balance, but available actions can differ across software versions and devices. [Samsung’s One UI 5 feature guide]
#1 Best Overall
- PRIVACY DISPLAY: Automatically hide your screen from those beside you. The built-in privacy display can be preset¹ to turn on when receiving notifications, typing passwords, or using specific apps
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping
- NIGHTS, CAPTURED CLEARLY: From gigs to city lights, record and capture moments after dark with clarity using Nightography so your photos and videos stay crisp and clear on your Samsung Galaxy
- MAKE IT. EDIT IT. SHARE IT: Turn everyday moments into something personal with creative tools built right into your mobile phone, whether it’s a special contact photo, custom wallpaper, an invitation or more⁴
- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
2. Keep two tasks visible with Multi window and App pairs
Multi window lets you use two apps side by side in split-screen view, or open an app in a movable pop-up window. Split screen suits two tasks that need fixed space, such as reading a document while writing a message. Pop-up view is useful when you want a smaller reference window over your main app.
To start, open the Recent apps screen, tap an app’s icon, and choose a split-screen or pop-up option if available. You can resize split-screen windows. If you often use the same two apps together, save them as an App pair for quicker access. Samsung cautions that “Some apps do not support split screen view,” and layouts vary by model, carrier, and software. [Samsung’s Multi window and App pairs instructions]
3. Capture a useful screen area with Edge panels and Smart Select
Edge panels provide customizable shortcuts that slide in from the side of the screen. One option, Smart Select, lets you select part of what is displayed instead of capturing the entire screen. Depending on the version and available tools, you can save or share a selection, extract text, or create a GIF.

4. Identify what is on screen with Circle to Search
Circle to Search lets you look up text, an object, or an image without first switching away from the screen you are viewing. Activate it, then circle, tap, or otherwise select the item you want to search. It is powered by Google and can be useful for identifying something in a photo or finding more information about text on screen.
Samsung Canada’s support page says the feature requires a Google account and select devices running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 or later. Availability differs by model and region. [Samsung Canada’s Circle to Search requirements] [Samsung’s Galaxy AI overview]

5. Turn a selected area into an action with AI Select
AI Select works with material already on your screen: select a region and use available options to extract text, save, share, or edit it. On One UI 7, Samsung says it can suggest actions based on the selection. This can reduce the steps involved in reusing visible content, but recognition and suggested actions are not guaranteed for every item or app.
Look for AI Select in the Edge panel on supported devices, or search Settings for its name if the location differs. Samsung’s Galaxy AI feature descriptions and supported-device information are available in its Galaxy AI overview. [Samsung’s One UI 7 feature overview]
6. Share files with Quick Share suggestions
Quick Share sends files to nearby compatible devices. Rather than selecting a recipient from scratch every time, your phone may suggest devices associated with your Samsung account or people you have shared with before. Review the recipient before sending, especially when the file is sensitive.

Samsung says One UI 7 can continue a transfer over the internet if devices move beyond direct-transfer range, using Wi-Fi or mobile data. That requires a working connection; it does not mean a transfer will continue without connectivity. [Samsung’s One UI 7 feature overview]
7. Find a TV or nearby device with the Quick panel
The Nearby devices feature can surface Samsung TVs and other nearby devices from the Quick panel, making it easier to discover a screen to use. For a compatible TV, Smart View can provide a route to casting your phone’s display.
Swipe down to open the Quick panel and look for Nearby devices or Smart View. Device compatibility and setup still matter, so discovery does not guarantee that every nearby screen can connect. [Samsung’s One UI 7 feature overview]

It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).

8. Use Samsung DeX for a desktop-style workspace
On compatible Galaxy phones and tablets, Samsung DeX can show a desktop-style interface on an external monitor or TV. You can connect a display by cable or wirelessly, and use a keyboard and mouse if you want a more conventional workstation setup. The display connection is the essential part; keyboard and mouse are optional.
| Connection | What you need | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Wired | A compatible Galaxy device, external display, and an appropriate USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or supported cable. | You want a direct connection and have the required adapter or cable. |
| Wireless | A compatible Galaxy device and a supported wireless display. | You prefer not to run a cable between the phone or tablet and display. |
DeX support depends on the model and software. Samsung notes that DeX for PC is unsupported on some newer devices running One UI 7 or later; that is separate from using a compatible external display. Check your device’s support before planning a setup. [Samsung’s DeX display instructions] [Samsung’s DeX keyboard and mouse guide]
9. Choose a charging limit with Battery protection
Battery protection gives you a way to set a preferred maximum charge level instead of always charging to 100%. Samsung’s One UI 7 page says the maximum can be adjusted between 80% and 95%. If you usually have access to charging and do not need a full charge, a lower ceiling may suit your routine; set a higher level when you need more charge available.

10. Check the sensitive-information warning before sharing an image
On supported software, the share panel can warn you if an image appears to contain personal information such as card numbers, identification, or passport details. This is a useful pause before sending a screenshot or photo that might expose details you did not intend to share.
Inspect the image yourself before sharing. A warning is not a guarantee that every private detail will be detected. Samsung describes this behavior in its One UI 5 feature guide.
