The most useful Galaxy FE changes are targeted, not blanket restrictions: inspect which apps consume power, enable Power saving only when its limits fit your routine, place rarely used apps into sleeping states, and audit sensitive permissions and diagnostics. Menu names and feature availability vary by FE generation, carrier and One UI/Android version, so use the paths below as guides and confirm the labels on your phone. Samsung’s official recommendations do not establish a universal percentage or number of extra hours for any Galaxy FE model.

Check your exact Galaxy FE software before changing settings

Samsung reuses the Device care and Security and privacy frameworks across Galaxy phones, but a Galaxy S20 FE, S21 FE, S23 FE or another generation can show different labels. Carrier firmware and regional settings can also move options. Open Settings > About phone > Software information and note the One UI and Android versions. If a path below is absent, type the setting name into the Settings search box rather than assuming your phone supports the same control.

Make one change at a time and watch your own battery-use screen for a day. That approach avoids restricting an app that you depend on for messages, authentication, navigation or work.

Find what is actually using your battery

Start with evidence instead of turning every saver on. Open Settings > Device care > Battery (the exact top-level label may be Battery and device care) and review the usage graph and app list. Samsung’s Device care guidance explains that this view provides an overview of device condition and can identify apps using excessive battery. The same support page describes an optimization process that checks for abnormal battery use: Samsung Device care support.

  • Look for an app consuming power while you are not actively using it.
  • Check whether screen-on time, mobile network use or location activity explains the drain before limiting an app.
  • Run the available Optimize now or equivalent Device care action, then recheck the list later.

An app at the top is not automatically defective. A navigation, video or camera app can legitimately use more energy during active use; unexplained background activity is the stronger reason to investigate.

Use Power saving mode deliberately

On many US models the route is Settings > Device care > Battery > Power saving. Samsung says Power saving limits background network use and syncing. Depending on the model, its options can also disable Always On Display, limit CPU speed to 70%, reduce brightness by 10%, and limit apps and the Home screen. Samsung lists these options in its Device care guidance, but not every FE exposes every switch.

Power saving option What it changes Trade-off to check
Background network and sync limits Reduces background communication and synchronization. Email, cloud updates, messages or other time-sensitive data may arrive later.
Always On Display off Stops the idle clock and notification display. You must wake the phone to check status.
CPU speed limited to 70% (where offered) Favors lower processing demand. Heavy apps, games and camera processing can feel slower.
Brightness reduced by 10% (where offered) Reduces display power draw. The screen may be harder to read in bright surroundings.
Limit apps and Home screen (where offered) Restricts available apps and background activity. Shortcuts, widgets and some app functions may not be available until normal mode returns.

Turn on only the options you can live with. For example, enabling background limits during a long trip can preserve charge, while leaving the mode off during a workday may prevent delayed collaboration alerts. Power saving is a trade, not a guaranteed endurance percentage.

Choose a performance profile

If your FE shows Settings > Device care > Performance profile, Samsung describes two relevant choices. Standard balances processing speed, battery life and cooling. Light prioritizes battery life and cooling over processing speed. Light can suit reading, messaging and calls; Standard is the safer choice for demanding games, video editing or other sustained workloads.

Profile Priority Use it when
Standard Balanced speed, endurance and temperature. You need normal responsiveness across mixed workloads.
Light Lower processing demand, with speed given less priority. You value cooler operation and longer use more than peak performance.

Changing to Light is not a free battery increase: slower processing can make a task take longer, and the result depends on what you do. If the profile control is missing, your model or software may not support it.

Put infrequently used apps to sleep

Samsung Ireland’s battery instructions use Settings > Device care > Battery > Background usage limits. The page, updated 27 November 2025, describes three lists:

  • Sleeping apps: background operation is restricted when the system decides the app is not in use.
  • Deep sleeping apps: the restriction is stronger; the app generally runs only when you open it.
  • Never auto sleeping apps: exceptions for apps that should remain available for background work.

Add shopping, travel or game apps that you open only occasionally to a sleeping list. Keep messaging, two-factor authentication, wearable, work and safety apps out of deep sleep if you need prompt alerts. Samsung’s application-management documentation explains that the system applies sleeping modes using usage patterns and that exceptions can be set in this area: Samsung Application Management.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not assume a sleeping setting blocks every kind of foreground work. One UI 6 and Android 14 changed foreground-service behavior for apps targeting Android 14, so an app’s own implementation and Android rules still matter. If an essential alert stops arriving, return to Background usage limits, remove that app from the sleeping list, and test again.

Review the display and radios

Samsung’s battery advice recommends reviewing display choices and disabling connections that you are not using: Samsung battery-optimization guidance.

Display settings

  • Open Settings > Display and choose a lower screen resolution if your FE offers multiple resolutions and you do not need maximum sharpness.
  • Use a shorter Screen timeout so an unattended display turns off sooner.
  • Reduce brightness or disable adaptive brightness only if you can still read the screen comfortably; forcing a very dim display can be counterproductive if you repeatedly wake it.
  • Review animated or especially bright wallpapers. A simpler, darker wallpaper can reduce display work on OLED models, but it is an option rather than a requirement.
  • Decide whether Always On Display is worth its convenience. Power saving can turn it off automatically, or you can adjust its schedule in the Always On Display settings.

Wireless features

Turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or other radios when they are genuinely unnecessary, using Quick Settings or their entries under Settings > Connections. Do not disable Wi-Fi merely to save power while you are at home if mobile data would then be used instead. Likewise, retain Bluetooth for a watch, hearing aid or car connection you rely on.

Location

Location can affect battery, data use and accuracy. In Settings > Location > Location services, review Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning and other accuracy options. Keep the location access needed by navigation, emergency, transport or safety apps. Samsung Singapore’s support page, updated 23 September 2026, explains location activation and permission choices: Samsung location-permission support.

Audit app permissions for privacy

Battery controls do not replace a privacy review. Open Settings > Security and privacy > Permission manager. Select a service such as Camera, Microphone, Location, Contacts or Photos and videos, then inspect the apps listed under each access level.

  1. Choose a sensitive permission category.
  2. Open an app whose access no longer matches its purpose.
  3. Select the narrowest suitable option, such as Allow only while using the app, Ask every time or Don’t allow, where those choices are offered.
  4. Repeat for apps you no longer use, then uninstall those apps rather than leaving unnecessary access in place.

“While using” is usually a better compromise than permanent access for a map, social or shopping app that does not need to work continuously. A navigation or safety app may require broader location access to perform its stated function, so test the app after tightening a permission.

Use Permission Usage to investigate recent access

Galaxy’s Permission Usage view helps you see which apps recently used sensitive permissions. Samsung describes selectable windows of the previous 24 hours or seven days in its Knox privacy overview: Samsung Knox privacy overview.

Open Settings > Security and privacy, select the permission-usage or privacy-dashboard entry shown on your software, and choose the 24-hour or seven-day period. Tap an unfamiliar app to see the permission involved, then return to Permission manager to change that app’s access. A recent access event is not proof of misuse; camera, microphone and location indicators can be triggered by a legitimate feature you just used.

Separate Samsung and Google diagnostic controls

There is more than one data-sharing switch. Samsung’s Security and privacy documentation places Send diagnostic data under Settings > Security and privacy > More privacy settings (the wording can differ). This controls diagnostic information sent to Samsung.

Google’s control is separate. In Settings, open Google and look for Usage & diagnostics under the Google services area. Samsung describes this setting as allowing Google to collect device diagnostic data to improve its services. Turning off one does not automatically turn off the other; read the provider name beside each switch before changing it.

Review activity and advertising choices

Samsung’s privacy guidance also points to Google Activity controls and Ads settings. Use Settings search for Activity controls, My Activity or Ads if menu labels differ on your FE. Depending on region and software version, Google’s Ads area may let you reset the advertising ID or disable apps’ use of it. These controls affect account activity and advertising personalization, not the permissions an app already has for the camera, microphone or location.

After changing an activity or advertising setting, review the individual Google account currently signed in. A phone can contain more than one account, and changing the wrong account will not alter the data you intended to manage.

Balance the settings instead of maximizing every restriction

Decision Likely benefit Possible cost Safer approach
Power saving versus normal mode Less background network use and syncing. Delayed updates, dimmer display or slower processing. Use it for low-charge periods and remove only the options that interrupt essential work.
Sleeping or deep-sleeping an app Less background activity from infrequently used apps. Delayed notifications or refreshes. Keep communication, authentication and safety apps in the exception list.
Lower resolution, brightness or timeout Less display energy use. Reduced sharpness, readability or convenience. Change one display variable and observe whether it remains comfortable.
“While using” permission versus broader access Less continuous access to location or sensors. Some features may stop when the app is not open. Use the narrowest setting that still supports the app’s essential function.
Disable a radio or location service Stops that connection or scan when idle. Lost accessories, poorer location accuracy or higher mobile-data use. Turn it off only when you are certain no current task depends on it.

A practical maintenance routine

  1. Once a week, open Device care > Battery and inspect the highest-consuming apps.
  2. For unexplained background use, check Background usage limits before enabling the strongest Power saving restrictions.
  3. When charge is low, enable Power saving and select only the optional limits that will not disrupt urgent notifications or accessibility features.
  4. After installing an app, review its Permission manager entry and remove access that does not fit its purpose.
  5. Check Permission Usage over seven days after a major app update or when a privacy indicator appears unexpectedly.
  6. Every few months, revisit Samsung’s diagnostic switch and Google’s Usage & diagnostics separately, because software updates can restore or rename related screens.

These steps make the FE’s behavior more predictable without promising a universal battery result or sacrificing functions you actually need.
