Run Samsung’s built-in diagnostics before booking a repair: in Samsung Members, open Diagnostics and choose Phone diagnostics, then tap Test all or select a test for the problem you’re seeing. A passing result is useful troubleshooting evidence, not proof that every fault has been ruled out: available checks vary by model and software.

Choose a diagnostic route

Route Where to find it Availability and scope
Samsung Members Samsung Members > Diagnostics > Phone diagnostics Run Test all or choose an individual test. Which tests appear depends on the phone model and software.
Device care Settings > Device care > Diagnostics > Phone diagnostics Samsung Canada documents this route for Galaxy devices running Android 12 or later. Labels and availability may differ by model, software, and region.

Samsung Members is the clearest starting point for component checks. Device care offers diagnostics on supported phones and also provides battery, storage, memory, and security information. Samsung’s instructions differ by region and app version, so if a label below is missing, look for a similarly named support or diagnostics area rather than assuming your phone cannot be checked. See Samsung Canada’s Galaxy device status and diagnostics guide and Samsung US’s Samsung Members diagnostics guide.

Run checks in Samsung Members

  1. Open Samsung Members. If it is not installed, Samsung says it can be downloaded from Galaxy Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Open Diagnostics. Depending on the app interface, it may be under Discover or Get help; some versions put the route under Support.
  3. Tap Phone diagnostics. Choose Test all for a broad scan, or select an individual check that matches your symptom.
  4. Follow each prompt. Some checks need you to perform an action, such as turning on the flashlight or recording a voice sample for the microphone test. Read the on-screen instructions and complete the requested action.
  5. Review the outcome. Note completed, failed, unfinished, or skipped checks. Some interfaces allow you to reopen or repeat a completed test; a skipped check has not verified that component.

Samsung Canada says the first diagnostics run may start a full scan automatically; you can stop it and choose individual checks. Its app guide explains the interactive prompts and result states in more detail: How to use diagnostics in Samsung Members.

Use Device care where available

On a supported Galaxy phone, go to Settings > Device care > Diagnostics > Phone diagnostics, then run Test all or select an individual test. Samsung Canada specifies Android 12 or later for this Device care diagnostics route. If the menu is absent, use Samsung Members instead; menu names and feature availability vary.

Other Device care information

  • Battery: Review battery usage and health information.
  • Storage: Check used and available space.
  • Memory: Review memory use and, where offered, use Clean now.
  • App protection: Run Scan phone where available.
  • Optimize now: Use the device-care optimization option if it appears.

These are status and maintenance tools, not substitutes for component diagnostics: a storage or memory screen, for example, does not establish whether a camera, speaker, or other hardware component is faulty.

Match the test to the symptom

If the problem is limited to one feature, run its individual check as well as a full scan if you want broader coverage. Samsung’s documented examples include speaker, battery, touch screen, camera, sensors, microphone, and flashlight-related checks, but the inventory is model-dependent. A missing test does not itself prove the component is healthy.

  • Sound or microphone problem: Try the relevant speaker or microphone check and follow any recording prompt.
  • Touch response problem: Select the touch-screen check if it is listed.
  • Camera or sensor issue: Choose the corresponding available test.
  • Battery concern: Run a battery diagnostic if offered, then review Device care battery information where available.

Understand results and decide what to do

Record the exact test name and result, what the phone asked you to do, and whether you completed or skipped it. A failed check is a useful clue to share with support; a completed or passing check only speaks to the test that ran. Samsung’s support pages do not publish an accuracy rate for these diagnostics, and the model-dependent test set means they should not be treated as a guarantee that no fault exists.

In the United States, Samsung’s separate Warranty and care workflow can check items such as the speaker, battery, touch screen, camera, and sensors. It reports “Normal” or “Action required” and may offer a related FAQ, service-center lookup, or repair request. Some issue searches require a Samsung account and an active network connection. This is a US-specific support flow; Samsung says coverage, support, costs, and features vary by country or region. See Samsung’s Warranty and care instructions.

If the test cannot run or the problem remains

If Samsung Members cannot be opened because of a screen, power, battery, or app problem—or diagnostics do not cover the symptom—use Samsung’s Support Center or request service. Samsung also provides an error-report option through Members; sending system log data is optional, not a stated prerequisite for a repair visit. See Samsung Members troubleshooting and support options.

When contacting a repair provider, share the symptom, the test names and outcomes, any skipped checks, and the prompts you encountered. These details help describe what you observed without treating a phone self-test as a complete hardware inspection.
