If Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi takes an unusually long time to become active on a Samsung Galaxy, first determine whether the switch itself is delayed or whether the radio turns on normally but takes time to connect. Samsung has not published a universal number of seconds that defines a fault, and its support material does not establish one model-independent cause for a delayed toggle. A restart, software update, and a symptom-specific connection test are the safest first steps. Reset saved Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth settings only after those checks, then use Samsung Members diagnostics or Samsung Support if the delay continues.
Identify exactly what is slow
“Bluetooth is slow” and “Wi‑Fi is slow” can describe different failures. Watch the control in Quick Settings and in Settings, and note what happens before changing anything. The distinction determines which troubleshooting branch is relevant.
| What you see | What it indicates | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| The Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi switch stays off, spins, or becomes unresponsive before changing to on. | The enabling process itself is delayed. This guide’s restart, update, Safe mode, diagnostics, and reset sequence applies. | Restart the phone, install available software updates, and test both radios separately. |
| The switch changes to on quickly, but no accessory or network connects. | The radio is enabling; the problem is discovery, authentication, pairing, or the network. | Use the Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi connection steps below instead of treating it as a delayed-toggle fault. |
| Only one Bluetooth accessory fails. | The accessory, its pairing mode, or its saved profile may be involved. | Forget that accessory, put it back into pairing mode, and test another accessory. |
| Only one Wi‑Fi network fails. | The network, router, password, or saved network profile may be involved. | Forget and rejoin the network, compare another device, and restart the router for the connection problem. |
| Both Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi are slow on the same Galaxy. | A phone-side software or system-state issue is more plausible than a single accessory or router issue, but no hardware diagnosis can be made from this symptom alone. | Record the model and software version, restart, update, and run Samsung Members diagnostics when available. |
Menu names and layouts vary by Galaxy model, region, and One UI version. Write down the exact model number and the software build shown under the phone’s software information before contacting support. That lets Samsung give instructions for the device you actually have.

1. Restart normally
A normal restart clears a temporary system state without deleting personal data. Open the power menu from the Power icon in Quick Settings or by holding the Side key, choose Restart, and wait for the lock screen. After the phone finishes starting, leave it idle briefly, then try Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi one at a time. Test from Settings as well as Quick Settings if one interface appears stuck.

Do not infer that a restart proves a hardware fault or a permanent software fix. If the switches respond normally after one restart but become slow again, record when the recurrence happens and continue with the update and isolation steps rather than repeatedly rebooting without collecting information.
2. Force-restart only when the phone is frozen
If the power menu will not appear or the screen is not responding, Samsung’s Bluetooth guidance says to hold the Side and Volume down keys together for more than seven seconds. Button behavior can vary by device, so stop when the Galaxy logo appears and allow the phone to boot. This forced restart is for an unresponsive phone; it is not a replacement for checking software updates.
3. Install the available Galaxy software update
Open Settings > Software update, choose Download and install (or the equivalent label), and follow the on-screen instructions. Keep the phone charged and connected to a reliable network while the update is downloaded and installed. Samsung describes updates as a way to improve performance, stability, and compatibility. That is a general explanation for device behavior, not proof that an update will cure every delayed radio toggle.

After the update completes, restart once and test Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi independently. If the update screen says the phone is current, do not install unverified firmware or a third-party “cleaner” in an attempt to force a fix. Keep the exact software version in your notes because support may ask for it.
4. Check whether a recently installed app is involved
Samsung’s general slow-device guidance lists outdated software, background apps, insufficient available memory, and temporary system errors as possible contributors to general slowness. It does not establish any of those as the cause of a delayed Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi switch on every Galaxy. A Safe mode test is useful because it temporarily prevents third-party apps from running.
Use your model’s Safe mode procedure, then try enabling each radio. If Wi‑Fi works normally in Safe mode, Samsung says a recently installed third-party app may be involved. Note which apps were added or updated shortly before the symptom began and remove or update one candidate at a time after returning to normal mode. A Safe mode result narrows the search; it does not identify a particular app by itself. If the delay is unchanged in Safe mode, record that result and continue with diagnostics rather than uninstalling unrelated apps at random.

If Bluetooth turns on but will not connect
When the switch reaches on promptly, connection troubleshooting is separate from the enabling delay. Follow these steps for an accessory that does not appear, will not pair, or disconnects immediately.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Prepare the accessory. Charge it, keep it close to the Galaxy, and place it in the accessory’s own pairing or discovery mode. A device that is merely powered on may not be discoverable.
- Remove the saved profile. Open Bluetooth settings, select the affected accessory, and choose the option to unpair, forget, or remove it. The wording differs by One UI version.
- Pair again from scratch. With the accessory in pairing mode, scan from the Galaxy’s Bluetooth screen and accept the pairing request. Follow any PIN or confirmation shown on both devices.
- Test a second accessory. If another Bluetooth device pairs normally, the original accessory or its saved profile is the stronger lead. If several accessories fail, keep the focus on the Galaxy.
- Check accessory firmware. Samsung suggests installing firmware updates when the accessory manufacturer provides them. Use the manufacturer’s documented update method; do not assume that a phone reset updates the accessory.
Samsung’s official support guide, “Bluetooth device will not connect to Samsung Galaxy device,” states: “Temporary software issues may prevent Bluetooth devices from being recognized properly.” That statement concerns recognition and connection, not a measured explanation for a switch that takes a long time to enable. Treat a normal toggle followed by failed pairing as a connection case.
If Wi‑Fi turns on but will not connect
A Wi‑Fi switch that becomes active quickly but cannot join a network needs network troubleshooting. Do not buy a new router or replace the phone solely because the switch was previously slow; first establish whether the problem is the Galaxy, one network, or all networks.

- Confirm Wi‑Fi is enabled. Check the Wi‑Fi page in Settings rather than relying only on the Quick Settings tile. Look for the affected network in the available-network list.
- Forget and rejoin. Select the network, choose Forget, then select it again, enter the password, and reconnect. This removes the stored profile, so make sure you know the current password.
- Compare another device. If another phone or computer also cannot see or join the network, investigate the network or router. If other devices work and only the Galaxy fails, continue with the phone-side steps.
- Restart the router for connection trouble. Samsung recommends restarting the router when the symptom is inability to connect. That advice addresses a network connection failure; it is not evidence that router replacement fixes a Galaxy whose Wi‑Fi switch itself takes too long to turn on.
- Repeat the test in Safe mode. If Wi‑Fi works in Safe mode but not normal mode, a recently installed third-party app may be interfering. If it fails in both modes, save that observation for diagnostics or support.
Run Samsung Members phone diagnostics
When Samsung Members is installed and the feature is offered on the device, its Phone diagnostics can test Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi. Availability is limited to Galaxy devices with Samsung Members installed, and labels can change with the app version.
- Open Samsung Members.
- Open the Support section.
- Start Phone diagnostics (the entry may be labelled simply Diagnostics).
- Select Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi and complete the prompts.
- Save the result or note any failure code before leaving the app.
Run each test after the phone has been restarted and updated, and test the radio that is actually showing the delay. A passed test does not establish that the delay is imaginary; it means the built-in check did not find the condition it measures. A failed test is useful evidence for Samsung Support, especially when accompanied by the model, software version, and whether the issue affects both radios.
Reset Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth settings
Use a settings reset only after the restart, update, connection-specific checks, and available diagnostics. Samsung documents this path:

- Open Settings.
- Tap General management.
- Tap Reset.
- Choose Reset Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth settings.
- Review the warning and tap Reset settings.
Your Galaxy may show slightly different wording or a broader Reset network settings option. Samsung’s US guidance says that the broader network reset can affect saved Wi‑Fi networks and mobile-data settings. Select the exact option displayed on your model and read its confirmation screen before proceeding.
This reset removes saved Wi‑Fi connection information and Bluetooth pairings. Have network passwords available, and expect to put accessories back into pairing mode. It does not delete photos, messages, or installed apps, but it does create setup work afterward. Test the switches before restoring every saved connection so you can tell whether the reset changed the enabling delay.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to decide whether the phone, accessory, or network is involved
| Test result | Most useful interpretation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Both radios are delayed immediately after startup, with no accessory or network selected. | The symptom is occurring at the phone’s enabling stage. The available guidance does not identify a single cause. | Restart, update, run diagnostics, and document the recurrence. |
| Bluetooth enables normally and one accessory fails. | The accessory or its saved pairing is implicated more than the toggle. | Forget, re-pair, test another accessory, and check accessory firmware. |
| Wi‑Fi enables normally and one network fails. | The network profile or router path is implicated more than the toggle. | Forget and reconnect, compare another device, and restart the router. |
| Wi‑Fi works in Safe mode but not normal mode. | A recently installed third-party app may be involved, according to Samsung. | Review recent app installs or updates and remove candidates one at a time. |
| Diagnostics report a problem after the reset and update. | There is documented evidence for support to review, but it is not by itself a hardware diagnosis. | Contact Samsung Support or an authorized service center. |
When to contact Samsung Support or service
Escalate when the enabling delay persists after a restart, current software, Safe mode comparison where practical, diagnostics, and the documented settings reset. Use Samsung Support or an authorized service center for model-specific instructions and availability in your country. Service options, menus, and terms vary by market.
Give the technician a concise record:
- Galaxy model number and software or One UI version.
- Whether Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, or both switches are delayed.
- Whether the switch is unresponsive, or turns on but fails to connect.
- What happened after a normal or forced restart.
- The software-update result.
- Safe mode and Samsung Members diagnostic results, if available.
- Whether multiple accessories and Wi‑Fi networks show the same behavior.
- Whether you reset Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth settings and what changed.
Do not describe the phone as having a hardware fault unless Samsung or an authorized technician diagnoses one. A persistent delay can justify service, but the symptom alone cannot identify a failed radio component.
Why a factory reset is not the first fix
A factory reset is an escalation, not a routine response to a slow toggle. Samsung warns that it erases all data, so you must back up important content, confirm account credentials, and complete the preparation steps for your model. It may also fail to provide a lasting solution if the underlying problem is an app waiting for an update. Exhaust the less destructive checks and obtain support advice before choosing it.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes to avoid
- Confusing delay with connection failure. Replacing a router or accessory cannot explain a switch that has not enabled yet.
- Resetting too early. A network reset removes saved connections and can make later testing harder if you have not recorded passwords and pairings.
- Assuming a number of seconds proves a fault. Samsung’s published guidance does not provide an acceptable toggle-delay threshold or a failure-rate benchmark.
- Blaming one cause without testing. General slowness factors such as outdated software, background apps, limited available memory, and temporary system errors are possibilities in Samsung’s broad guidance, not a confirmed explanation for every delayed radio.
- Skipping model details. Galaxy menu labels and button behavior vary by model and software version; instructions from another device may not match yours.
- Installing unverified cleanup tools. The documented Samsung steps do not establish that a third-party utility fixes delayed Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi enabling.
A compact decision checklist
- Watch the switch and classify the symptom: delayed enabling, failed connection, one accessory, or one network.
- Record the Galaxy model and software version.
- Restart normally; use Side plus Volume down for more than seven seconds only if the phone is frozen.
- Install any update under Settings > Software update, then restart and retest.
- For Bluetooth connection trouble, forget and re-pair the accessory, test another accessory, and check its firmware.
- For Wi‑Fi connection trouble, forget and rejoin the network, compare another device, and restart the router.
- Use Safe mode as an app-isolation test, especially when Wi‑Fi behaves normally there.
- Run Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi tests in Samsung Members Phone diagnostics when available.
- Only then use Settings > General management > Reset > Reset Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth settings, reading the warning first.
- If the delay remains, provide your test record to Samsung Support or an authorized service center instead of assuming a hardware failure.
