The POCO X8 Pro Max is the better fit if you prioritize a larger display, a much higher rated battery capacity, and performance-oriented hardware. The Samsung Galaxy A57 5G is lighter and slimmer, and Samsung publishes a clearer long-term software-support commitment. Neither is a universal winner: the price difference depends on your country, storage configuration, and current listings.

Which phone has the better display?
On the published specifications, the POCO has the larger and higher-resolution screen: 6.83 inches at 1.5K, with a stated 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung lists a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus display. That gives the POCO more screen area and sharper stated resolution, while the available specifications do not establish which looks better in brightness, color accuracy, or outdoor use. There is no controlled display comparison in these sources.
Battery capacity: POCO is much larger, but runtime is not guaranteed
POCO lists an 8,500mAh battery for the X8 Pro Max; Samsung lists 5,000mAh typical capacity for the A57. POCO calls its battery life “2-day” and says its data comes from internal labs, with actual results varying. Samsung also claims up to two days. These manufacturer claims are not a controlled head-to-head test, so capacity alone cannot establish how long either phone will last for a particular user.

Performance and everyday handling
POCO: performance-oriented hardware in a bigger body
POCO identifies the X8 Pro Max as using a Dimensity 9500s. That supports its performance-focused positioning, but the cited material does not provide a directly comparable benchmark or sustained-performance test against the A57. Treat chipset positioning as a specification, not proof that every app or game will run faster in all conditions.
Samsung: noticeably lighter and slimmer on paper
Samsung lists the A57 at 179g and describes it as 6.9mm thick. TechRadar lists the POCO at 218g and 8.2mm. The 39g weight difference and greater thickness make the Samsung the more portable choice on these figures; the POCO’s larger screen and battery come with a bulkier form factor.

Camera specifications and what they do—and do not—tell you
Samsung lists a 50MP OIS main camera, 12MP ultra-wide, and 5MP macro camera. POCO Malaysia lists a 50MP Light Fusion 600 OIS main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide, without a macro camera in that listed rear array. Samsung therefore offers an additional dedicated macro option on paper. The POCO Malaysia page lists rear video recording up to 4K at 60fps. Samsung lists a 12MP front camera, while POCO lists 20MP. Megapixel counts and lens counts do not establish which phone takes better photos or selfies; no controlled camera comparison is available here.
Software support and durability
Samsung says the Galaxy A57 will receive up to six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates. This is the clearer published longevity commitment in the available information. The reviewed POCO launch configuration runs Android 16 with HyperOS 3, but the cited sources do not establish a comparable support duration. Check POCO’s current official commitment for your market before deciding on long-term support.

For water and dust resistance, Samsung UK lists IP68. TechRadar’s UK review also lists IP68 for the POCO and notes regional rating differences, including versions reportedly adding IP69K. Do not assume a rating from one market applies to every SKU; verify the precise regional model before purchase.
Price difference: launch figures are not today’s prices
TechRadar’s April 3, 2026 review listed the POCO at $469 / £469 for 256GB and $519 / £519 for 512GB, with 12GB RAM. It listed the Galaxy A57 launch price at $549.99 / £529. These are historical launch-price references, not verified live prices or guaranteed prices in every country. They also do not by themselves establish a fair current price comparison between equivalent configurations.

To calculate the real difference, compare same-day listings in your country for the exact storage and memory variants. Include shipping, taxes, promotions, local warranty, and whether the model is actually sold there. Availability, retailer stock, and network-band compatibility depend on country and SKU; the cited sources do not confirm current listings for a particular location.
Which should you choose?
Choose the POCO X8 Pro Max if
- You want the larger screen and higher published resolution.
- You place a high priority on rated battery capacity and are comfortable with the larger, heavier build.
- You are drawn to its performance-oriented chipset and have checked local availability, regional specifications, and software-support terms.
Choose the Samsung Galaxy A57 if
- You prefer a lighter, slimmer phone.
- You value Samsung’s published commitment of up to six OS upgrades and six years of security updates.
- You want a listed rear-camera setup that includes a dedicated macro camera.
The phones launched in 2026: Samsung announced the Galaxy A57 5G on March 25, and POCO held its X8 Pro Series event on March 17. A definitive value pick still depends on current local prices and which features matter most to you.
